Chapter 5 - Chapter 33

Not one moment after that night was wasted, as Rohan took his life in a new direction, and sought out a new purpose. While he still had relatively the same schedule, waking up early to meet with friends to have breakfast, going through classes, and working together afterwards, he had chosen to create more openings for other activities, or twist old ones for different purposes.

In his sleep, he would dream of interesting and advanced tools that could aid him, trying to let his creativity run wild to create fantasies so he could later work on bringing them to reality. Seeing himself wield fantastic armor and weapons, wondering how he could use it against the Exhumans to defeat them.

In the morning, he still did his morning exercise with Sriya, however he would work even harder than before, trying to push his limits, forcing himself to find the ends of his stamina and then working to better it.

In the gym facilities, he put more effort into his training, working on his agility with strafe running on wide treadmills, punching harder in sparring sessions with Sriya in the rings, and lifting heavier bars on the weight machines.

Sriya noticed Rohan's stronger resolve, guessing that it was his desire to play better, which he found commendable. He had no idea what was going through Rohan's mind, but continued to train with his friend.

Rohan on the other hand hardly even thought about facing other hockey players, as he was trying to train himself to be at least somewhat formidable against those who stood over him as gods.

After the workout, he would go to his dorm room to wash himself, and then spend his time before meeting up with his friends to begin studying his air hockey suit, placing it on himself and examining its components while taking notes on his Connect.

He seemed to try completely reconstructing the suit through inspections and note taking, understanding it to his fullest so he knew how it worked and how a modified version could operate.

He was lucky to be able to keep his own copy of the suit, especially one that was relatively advanced due to the prestige of the team he managed to get himself into. While there was the slight issue that he couldn't take parts of the suit off to analyze them in detail too easily, he was also able to search for references online when the hands on analysis didn't suffice.

He'd then go down to the lobby when he'd have to meet with his friends, however rather than being the first to the lobby as he once was, he began to come later, finding them waiting. They would then head to their first class building, eat their breakfast, and head up to their first class.

During class, Rohan would have the professor tuned out, and while he was perceived to be note taking or working on program assignments, he'd instead be researching the scientific mechanisms of how the suits worked, including research into other systems that could possibly benefit him.

He would also work on more designs, writing equations on his holographic pages, trying to figure out what he would need to make the equipment work. While they were all theoretical and most likely would need to be adjusted, it was best that he had a good place to start, as he knew that being too far off could prove fatal to himself.

As Shuraj and Ara talk quietly to one another, Vrey watches Rohan work hard, his eyes determined as he studies from the beginning of class all the way till dismissal.

He'd continue going to lunch with his friends, and afterwards he would aid his friends with his work, however with a more rushed attitude as he hoped to clear up his schedule for after his second class. He'd give more answers rather than waiting for his friends to try figuring it out themselves, and even while doing so, his mind wasn't on the assignment.

After that, he'd make his way to his second class, where he would spend most of his class daydreaming rather than listening to the professor, his head usually tilted up as he imagined using a modified version of the suit to fly through the vast city of Versepolis, pulling himself towards different skyscrapers and boosting himself onwards.

While it was somewhat childish of him to spend his time in fantasy, he felt the need to stimulate his creativity to make sure he could visualize what he wanted in order to then translate it later. He also couldn't hold back his excitement, as it felt as though he was a young kid again, able to dream and wish to obtain such dreams. He found a new purpose, and wanted nothing more but to chase it to the end.

While he knew that many of his fantasies were far-fetched for where he was, he still wanted to remember ideas for later, and he tried to focus more on something more tangible, even though the concept of what he was doing was already stretched from the reality he was familiar with for so long.

Mrs. Frieda would continue to teach, noticing Rohan's lack of attention, but deciding not to comment on it. She sighs from time to time, as Rohan would gradually sit further and further from the front, as he used to always sit in the front of the class, but as days went on he would retreat farther and farther back.

Erica would stick to his side regardless of where he sat, trying to focus on the class and take notes, however she also clearly felt some concern for Rohan's change in demeanor in the classroom, as now it seemed Erica was studying harder than the human calculator.

After class would be when Rohan could finally be free to do what he wanted, as rather than staying with his friends to eat dinner and hang out, he'd go back to his dorms. Of course, if there was practice or a game he had to attend then he would stay on track, but if it was a day without such errands, he went straight to his room.

Once in his room, he'd begin opening up all the blueprints and designs he had been working on prior, and continue tweaking them. Most of his designs were modifications of the air hockey gear, as while it sounded fantastic to push farther, he had to be safe as he didn't want to overly tax himself. He also knew how limited he was in what he could make in a given day, so he wanted to make sure that it was something more compact and versatile in use, such as something to wear, and something he had some experience using even if it was for a very different reason.

As the blue supersun would descend behind the window, Rohan would continue working on the designs, bringing two dimensional blueprints into a three dimensional design, which he was able to use to better visualize how they would practically look like. He even worked to size the different components of the modified suit to scale with his own body, trying to fit his hands in the holographic gauntlets.

Once the sun would get low enough, he would begin the most important part of everyday life. After having studied the blueprints and getting it to a point where it was only a step from existence, he would be the one to take that step forward.

Rohan's desk would be more cleared out, with only a few three dimensional holograms of the components he needed to focus on sitting at the edge. Rohan would sit at the edge of his seat, his back hunched forwards, and his hands on the table. They would be relaxed and open, sitting on their sides with his palms facing each other at an angle.

He would take a deep breath, and then close his eyes, trying to concentrate on the one component he assigned himself for that day. He wasn't ready enough to create an entire suit at once, so he'd instead choose a certain part such as gloves or sleeves, trying to perfect the small fractions so later he could put the work together into one whole.

The room would fall into silence, with the stars beginning to appear behind the window. As the room would begin to darken, a soft blue glow would start to emanate from Rohan's body.

Rohan's chest would start to glow again, and streaks of energy would run to his sleeves. While his eyes would be closed, a blue mist would come from the small opening, and a streak would rise from each eye up to his forehead before vanishing under his hair.

The streaks that ran up his sleeves would reach the center of his palm, and smaller streaks would branch out to his five fingers like a tree, encasing his hand. Both of his hands gave off a blue glow, and a misty energy would rise, with the mist from both hands moving to join together.

The mist between his hands became opaque to the point of appearing solid, similarly colored lightning-esc bolts started sparking off his hands and into the mist. More bolts come off his hands as the sparks light up the room with a blue hue, as though Rohan was welding something in his room, although it wasn't false that he was building something.

Rohan's mind would internalize what he wanted in front of himself, picturing it in his mind in a black abyss, focusing on nothing but the object.

A mixture of soft humming and snapping came off of Roham, as it seemed the process was becoming more intense and moving towards its main stages.

The mist between his hands would then burst, consuming his body, causing it to vanish from sight, and a few moments later the bolts would stop sparking. The mist would gradually fade away, and the sounds of the humming and sparking would silence in moments. Rohan's chest would stop glowing, and the streaks on his arms and face would also fade away.

Rohan opened his glowing eyes, as the energy would gradually fade off his blue irises. His eyes would stare ahead of himself, at his desk between his hands, analyzing what he had just done.

Depending on the component made, part of Rohan's body which once either was covered by nothing or normal clothing, such as his arm, would be covered, by gear such as an armored gauntlet which was similar to the air hockey suits although different as they were better padded and in general more bulked. The colors were still blue and white, reminiscent of his hockey suit, however it was clearly not what he'd go into the rink with.

Rohan would then test the component briefly. He would then pick up his hand, now with the gauntlet, and analyze his creation with his own eyes. He'd rotate his wrists, opening and closing his hands, making sure that the design was just as perfect as he hoped for.

However, before he could continue, the door slid open, forcing Rohan to hide his left hand into his jacket.

Dexter would then walk into the room, exhausted from the long day, giving off a tired sigh. He'd close the door after entering the room before collapsing on his bed, and Rohan would sigh to himself, once more miraculously hiding the component.

Dexter's return would mark the end of his day, as he'd slip the component into his closet, and speak to his brother before later falling asleep, exhausted after every creation.

Over the days and weeks, Rohan would learn more and more about the mysterious abilities he still had no clue the origin of. First off, he had begun initially trying to create batteries for his suit, however he found himself continuously failing to do so, as he still couldn't quite create something as complicated and intricate as energy itself.

However, while he was unable to fuel his suits traditionally, he found another solution, one that he found to be simpler and easier on him while also in another way more complex.

After more and more tests, he came across an outstanding discovery in his own room, relatively late into the night, after he had already finished creating all the individual components of a suit with working components.

He had finished the hardware, built with intricate wiring, yet he couldn't find a way to power it. He had different parts of his suit on him, covering his torso and sleeve with a similar suit to his hockey gear, however more wide and armored. Still with the white and blue palette, the torso went from his waist up to his neck, and his sleeves covered his arms from the shoulders to the tips of his fingers. Now with the covering, his chest and sleeves weren't visible, with only his head still exposed.

Rohan stood up from his chair, becoming annoyed at the major hindrance, as the suit unpowered was nothing more than cosplay, and would do him no good. He paced around his room, shaking his arms desperately, cursing himself under his breath while unable to resolve the problem.

He turned his hands towards him, questioning why nothing would work, as he had perfectly mimicked the systems of the air hockey suit to replicate its movement, yet there was no movement at all. Rohan's eyes were dilated, his hair a mess like a mad scientist, having spent the past few days roasting in the burning question.

Rohan yelled out loud in frustration, and as he did, his eyes began to glow with the same energy that he would emanate when creating, and the streaks of energy would rise from his eyes and to his forehead. The glow from his chest and arms were invisible due to the covering, however the hum was audible coming from him.

Suddenly, a whir comes from the suit, and his armored palms light up for a moment. His eyes widened, and his body was suddenly flung backwards by his own hands, as he had shot himself in the face.

His body flew into the wall, sounding a loud crash, and his body then fell onto his bed. He groaned tiredly, confused with what had just happened, and he slowly sat up in pain. He turned around to see that there was a large dent in the wall, and his drowsy eyes widened in fear and confusion.

Rohan then looked down at his left hand, and pulled his gauntlet off with his right hand, which was able to slip off since the pieces were still separate due to the work required to create them as one piece, especially a collapsable one. As the gauntlet dropped on the bed, Rohan's eyes dilated, as he stared at his forearm to see that a wide streak of blue energy ran up his arm and spread around his hand, meaning that he had activated again.

However, he didn't make anything this time, as the only thing that happened from the activation was that his suit had worked. It then came to him, trying to create batteries wasn't the solution, he was capable of being his own battery. Once more he found himself questioning the nature of his abilities, as it seemed he could generate energy, energy that could fuel his suit, which was his major breakthrough.

He had found a solution, along with a new question, but also had the conundrum of the dent in the wall. He sighed, and took off the rest of his suit before hiding it in his closet, and working on fixing the dent.

After spending some time trying to brainstorm a solution to fixing the dent, he ultimately comes up with the plan of filling the hole caused by the dent. After some quick research into references of what he could make, he stumbled on a device used in medical facilities to close gaping wounds in patients by applying a unique artificial gel capable of filling spaces.

With hastily rushed attempts to recreate a similar mechanism, Rohan eventually created an attachment to the bottom of his wrist's gauntlet, capable of projecting a similar gel from his hands, which was tweaked to be the same color as the wall since the original design was an opaque and noticeable blue.

He got to work, and after a couple minutes of careful application, he eventually got to nearing completion of a perfect recovery when he heard the door dissolve open, as someone was entering the room. Rohan turned around, standing on his bed, standing in front of the dent. His body immediately stopped glowing and humming, able to stop himself before detection.

Dexter walked into the room, noticing Rohan standing on his bed next to the wall, which was no longer dented. Dexter tilted his head in confusion, as to him, his older and mature brother was standing on his bed as if playing childishly.

Rohan could only smile innocently, having just barely resolved his problem before being caught, and put his hand behind his back before it could be seen. He felt bad for hiding such a secret from his brother, but he felt he couldn't let anyone know unless he'd later decide it was the right call.

While he had a rather awkward interaction with his brother, Rohan still felt victorious and proud, as he had found the final piece to the puzzle, and now that he was able to make the suit and power it, all he needed to do was put everything together, and do a field test. The only thing he had yet to do was put the suit together, however he planned to do that once he could get to the city, since it would've been suspicious for him to walk around with it in public until he could disguise himself.

Thus, he already mapped out his next mission: His first flight test.
