After dinner, Li Ke went into the woods and chopped down a few trees to get enough wood. He built wooden frames around the RV and easily figured out how to upgrade them with his stone axe. He just had to right-click.
Upgrading a wooden frame required eight pieces of wood, and the upgraded frame had a durability of 500. When he tried to upgrade it again, he found that he needed cobblestones, which required clay and stone to craft. Li Ke thought about it and immediately made a stone shovel. He swung it at the ground, and a durability value appeared on the surface, along with a prompt that clay had been added to his inventory. After a few more swings, a huge pit appeared in the ground.
Li Ke looked at the one-meter-deep pit and couldn't help but scratch his head. "Well, that's... pretty user-friendly." He had only dug three times to create such a deep pit. To be honest, he was a little bewildered, but this confirmed one thing: surviving in this world wasn't going to be difficult as long as he didn't do something stupid.
Li Ke tried to craft ten cobblestones. He couldn't craft more because there were no more small stones in the area. He then upgraded one of the 500-durability wooden frames, and in an instant, the wooden structure in front of him transformed into a brick wall. He tried hitting it with his stone axe and got a number: 1457/1500.
"The defense has increased, too!" Li Ke was thrilled. When he tried to upgrade it again, a "materials insufficient" prompt appeared, telling him he needed cement for the next step. But cement gave Li Ke a headache. Unlike other materials, cement required a cement mixer to make, and that required a workbench, which was making Li Ke quite helpless.
"It looks like I'm going to be a miner tomorrow." Li Ke glanced at the sky and gave up on the idea of continuing to work. Erina Nakiri had already taken care of the campfire and was helping him upgrade the un-upgraded wooden frames to wooden planks. They had surrounded the RV and installed a wooden door, also crafted with the system, to make it easier for them to get in and out. The upgraded wooden frames couldn't be picked up again.
"Time for bed." Li Ke stretched, and the two of them walked into the RV. They each took a room to sleep in. Erina Nakiri slept soundly, but Li Ke didn't. The effects of the meal hadn't been completely diminished by his labor. On the contrary, now that he was lying down, Li Ke could feel the heat in his body even more. He still had a fever, but a physiological reaction was unavoidable.
"Damn it…" Li Ke sat up in the middle of the night, covering his face in frustration. He couldn't sleep at all! The burning sensation was driving him crazy. And most importantly, he had a target for his desires where "doing anything wouldn't be a problem."
No, not Erina. Li Ke didn't plan to do anything with her for now. He wanted to wait until their feelings for each other grew. His target was the female merchant. Her large chest, full hips, and legs were the perfect object for his desires. Although her face couldn't compare to Erina Nakiri's, the most important thing was that she didn't require any communication. While Erina Nakiri was beautiful and somewhat dependent on him, she was more of a comrade than a plaything—a partner struggling to survive in this world with him.
"Do I really have to cross my own line?" Li Ke looked at his hands. Although he had washed them with clean water, he could still smell the stench of zombie blood. Who knew if a little "self-help" would get him infected again? It would be ridiculous to get infected in such a way. However, the restless desire was unbearable, and he had no choice but to bury his head under the covers.
What he didn't know was that Erina Nakiri in the next room was also struggling to sleep, listening to his heavy breathing. The human body is a strange thing. After intense combat and strenuous exercise, it craves intimacy with the opposite sex. Especially activities that cause a surge of adrenaline, which directly lead to the desire to procreate. This is why people who are physically fit and exercise regularly have stronger desires. Those who are not very active and don't take many risks not only lack this desire most of the time but also can't experience the most intense feelings of human intimacy! If you don't believe it, friends who are interested can try to compare how it feels to do "certain things" after exercising for a few months versus not exercising for a long time. It's a different feeling.
That night, he dreamed of many things, but mostly of the feeling of kissing Erina and the softness of the female merchant's chest. This made him curse when he woke up in the morning. He got up feeling a bit listless and went to the wooden wall he had built. He first placed a wooden frame in front of him and then jumped on it. Just then, he remembered a trick used in Minecraft-style building games. He jumped again, as high as he could, and placed a wooden frame under his feet in mid-air. In an instant, his body was standing on the wooden frame!
"It actually works…" Li Ke was thrilled because this opened up so many possibilities! He could use this method to climb mountains or get to places where zombies couldn't reach him!
"That means the way to get on top of that gas station might be easier than I thought!" Li Ke, realizing this, quickly walked along the wall, observing his surroundings for any zombies or wild animals. Thankfully, there were none, and the wall's durability was still intact.
At that moment, Erina Nakiri came out of the RV with the leftover food from yesterday. Li Ke jumped off the wall and nodded to her. "After we eat, we'll go into town and scavenge for useful things. We'll mainly look for pipes, tape, and other things that look useful." Erina Nakiri didn't object. She hadn't slept well either. She began to reheat the food and listened to Li Ke's new discovery. When she heard that he could build blocks in mid-air, a look of excitement appeared on her face.
However, just as they were about to eat, a sharp female scream came from outside. The sound didn't sound human. Li Ke and Erina immediately became alert. Li Ke jumped onto his wall and looked in the direction of the sound. But when he saw who it was, Li Ke's joy at seeing a survivor vanished. The source of the scream was a shambling, scarred, white zombie! This zombie looked exactly like Sadako from a horror movie. The moment he saw her, Li Ke knew she couldn't possibly be alive! She looked at Li Ke with eyes full of greed and let out another piercing scream.
The next moment, Li Ke saw the sounds of breaking doors and windows coming from the town not far from the RV. A dozen zombies that had been hiding came out of the houses and began to sprint toward them. That's right, they were sprinting. Even in the sunlight, these zombies were running at a speed that they were only supposed to have at night, sprinting toward Li Ke and Erina.
"Damn it!" Seeing this, Li Ke didn't hesitate. He jumped down, a stone spear appearing in his hand out of thin air. He also grabbed his axe from his inventory and charged toward the screaming zombie. In just five seconds, Li Ke was in front of the zombie. When he saw the Sadako zombie about to open her mouth again, Li Ke thrust his spear into her mouth, pinning the zombie to the ground. The next moment, Li Ke grabbed his axe with both hands and chopped it into the zombie's forehead. The sharp axe was embedded in her head, ending her life.
However, the group of Usain Bolt-like zombies didn't leave. They maintained their sprinting speed and continued to run toward their location. They were less than a hundred meters away! Li Ke pulled out his axe and ran toward the wall without looking back. But by the time he reached the wall, the zombies were already within ten meters of him.
"Grab me!" There was no time to place a wooden frame or even open the door. Thankfully, Erina Nakiri was kneeling on the wall, reaching down to Li Ke. Li Ke jumped and grabbed Erina's hand. He grabbed the wall with his other hand and, with Erina's help, flipped over the wall. The next moment, the zombies rushed over and slammed into the wall.
"Damn it… I knew there were special zombies!" Li Ke's heart was pounding as he looked at the at least twelve zombies. If they were to tackle him, he would undoubtedly be finished! They wouldn't just infect him; they would tear him apart and eat him!
Li Ke lay on the wall, catching his breath, and then heard the sound of bone scraping on wood. He and Erina looked down and saw that the zombies were frantically scratching the wooden wall beneath them. Several of them had even gone to the wooden door! The only thing that made Li Ke happy was that their movements had slowed down again; they weren't as frantic as before.
"At least there's some good news." Li Ke took a deep breath, flipped over, and landed inside the wall. He picked up his axe, opened the wooden door they had crafted, and chopped the head of a female zombie that was scratching at the door. Blood splattered. Li Ke moved aside, and Erina's axe fell, taking down another zombie. They took turns, killing all the zombies that tried to enter through the door and then walked out of the wall and took care of the ones still scratching the wall one by one.
After the last zombie was dealt with, Li Ke lay on the grass, panting heavily. Erina, who was still not out of breath, came to Li Ke's side and looked at him with some concern. What she didn't know was that from this angle, Li Ke could easily see her underwear and a part of her figure. Li Ke was stunned for two seconds. The adrenaline rush made him want to do more. To prevent himself from doing something wrong in this state of excitement, he immediately looked away, sat up, picked up his slightly blunted axe, and looked toward the town.
"We have to find a gun quickly! And we have to take turns. Also, Erina, the RV is too dangerous until we fix it. We need a safe base, a lookout tower, and a system of taking turns on duty." If he had a gun and was good at shooting, things wouldn't have been so difficult and dangerous. He could have killed that white zombie before she could even scream a second time! He could have even cleared out all the sprinting zombies right where he was! And if someone was on duty to keep watch, there would be no need for words. The moment the monster that looked like Sadako appeared, they could have killed her!
"Okay, I'll listen to you." Erina Nakiri nodded. Li Ke's suggestions were very sound. There was nothing wrong with them.
After eating, the two of them walked into the town again. Li Ke was still very careful because there were many buildings in the town that they hadn't explored yet. What if a Sadako zombie appeared? They wouldn't know how to deal with it. But before coming here, Li Ke had prepared something. Since he didn't have feathers for arrows and didn't know how to shoot a bow, Li Ke didn't make a bow and arrow. However, he found that spears could be thrown, so he packed a large number of spears in his backpack. If the Sadako zombie was blocked by other zombies, he would… he would have Erina Nakiri stab her to death with a spear! That's right, Li Ke had tried it. Even when it came to throwing spears, Erina threw them more accurately and with more force than he did! This was a big blow to Li Ke's ego. So as he was scavenging a house they hadn't been in before, Li Ke watched Erina bend over to look for something. Her chest caused a tempting tremble, and he couldn't help but let his mind wander.
"Could Erina be the protagonist?" And he, Li Ke… was he the useless old man who was there to die and trigger the protagonist's abilities?
