Chapter 2 - Synopsis

In a palace of gold, nothing is more dangerous than secrets... except love.

Versailles, 1787.

The French court glitters with extravagance and deception as whispers of revolution stir beyond its gilded gates. Amid the swirling silks and powdered masks, a courtier is found dead during a masquerade ball—murdered in the heart of the Hall of Mirrors.

In the middle of the scandal, two of Versailles' most scandalous outcasts join hands to investigate:

Countess Geneviève de Marçay, a once-beloved aristocrat fallen from grace, whose wit is as sharp as her smile, and whose family teeters on the edge of ruin.

And

Bastien De Rouchefort, the illegitimate son of a duke, known for his shadowy dealings and cold detachment from the court that barely tolerates his presence.

Forced into service, they must pose as partners to move freely through the palace's social circles, unravelling lies woven tighter than corsets. But as they delve deeper, they uncover a plot more dangerous than either imagined—one that could bring down the monarchy itself.

As tension crackles and their false affections begin to feel alarmingly real, Geneviève and Bastien must decide where their loyalties lie: with a crown steeped in blood, with a future built on ashes… or with each other.
