"Alright… next is dribbling."

Nango had just finished his shooting drills, but instead of resting, he picked the ball back up and started dribbling. He moved up and down the court, practicing control and rhythm while letting his stamina slowly recover.

If he truly wanted to carve out a basketball career, he couldn't afford to waste time. He was already sixteen, just starting high school—every second mattered.

After his rebirth, he had only one goal: to reach the NBA, the greatest stage in the world.

For now, the system only offered two functions: observing data and issuing daily tasks. It wasn't much, but it was enough. Watching his stats improve day by day gave him motivation, and the daily tasks rewarded him with Reward Points.

Reward Points could be exchanged for Potential Points at a rate of 1000 to 1. Potential Points allowed him to break through physical limits. Of course, height and wingspan were fixed, slowly increasing to their maximums. But other attributes required his own effort. If he slacked off, his numbers would stagnate—or worse, decline. It reminded him of a game from his previous life: Boxing Club.

The rules were simple: keep training, or fall behind.

Before his rebirth, Nango had always been a point guard because of his average height. He loved that position—the control, the responsibility of organizing the offense. Even now, with his new towering frame, he still wanted to play point guard. But in Japan, and even Asia at the time, a 192 cm point guard was almost unheard of.

For now, his body wasn't yet at the level he wanted. Certain movements still felt stiff. To fix that, he decided to invest his early Potential Points into speed and agility. He needed to be sharp and mobile before the Prefectural Tournament began.

The gym doors creaked open. A tall, broad-shouldered man stepped in, square-faced and serious. His expression sharpened when he saw Nango practicing.

"Hey! Who are you? This gym isn't open for random people to wander into."

He had heard the bouncing earlier but didn't expect to find a stranger inside.

"Sorry," Nango said quickly, bowing slightly. "I'm a first-year student. I just couldn't resist… I wanted to practice a bit before reporting. Nice to meet you, Captain Akagi!"

"Oh?" Akagi raised an eyebrow, surprised at the recognition. "What's your name?"

"Nango Koichiro. I came from U.A Middle School (My Hero Academy Lol). My position is point guard."

"…Point guard? At your height?" Akagi's interest deepened.

They exchanged a few words before the other upperclassmen arrived. Nango introduced himself again, and the team members welcomed him warmly. With his imposing frame, they were certain he'd be an asset to Shohoku.

Joining Shohoku had been a carefully considered decision. Nango believed that under Coach Anzai, he'd have both freedom and guidance. With the system supporting him and the maturity of an adult, he didn't need strict micromanagement—just the wisdom of someone who could steer him when it mattered most.

Once everyone was gathered, Akagi clapped his hands.

"Since it's the first day of school, today we'll start with some basic drills. For us third-years, this is our final chance. I don't want anyone to look back with regrets this summer. Our goal—dominate the nation! Now, let's go, team!"

"Go, team!" everyone shouted in unison.

Training began.

Since it was only the start of the school year, the gym was filled with veterans; first-years hadn't officially joined yet. That made Nango the lone newcomer.

Vice-Captain Kogure approached him after a while. "Nango-kun, Akagi told me you play point guard. Is that true?"

"Yes, Kogure-senpai. My idol is Magic Johnson from the Lakers. I've always wanted to organize the offense like him. Strange, right? Someone my height choosing point guard." He laughed lightly.

Kogure chuckled as well. "A little strange, yes. Maybe one day you'll have to try forward or even center."

"As long as the team needs me, I'll do my best," Nango replied sincerely. His humility left a good impression.

But inwardly, he had already assessed Shohoku's weakness: the point guard position.

Miyagi was quick and aggressive, but his technical flaws and small stature hurt the team. Against strong opponents, he was often a liability on both ends of the court. If Nango could take that role, Shohoku's balance would improve dramatically.

Their conversation was cut short by sudden yells from outside the gym—Yasuda and Shiozaki's voices.

"Kogure, keep practicing with them. I'll check it out," Akagi ordered before running off.

Watching him leave, Nango's lips curved into a faint smile.

"The story begins now."
