Parallax is the physical embodiment of the yellow power of fear; it can instill fear in all living beings it touches and feeds on that fear.
Originally, before Hal, the host he favored most was Sinestro. When Sinestro was imprisoned in the central power battery by the Guardians, Parallax revealed the true nature of the yellow energy to him: the power of fear.
However, it was a pity that Sinestro failed to eliminate the Guardians.
But Parallax never expected that these Guardians would now actively allow their Green Lanterns to enter the central power battery.

"If you don't have power, everything will be destroyed by him. Do you want to watch all of this happen again?"
With Parallax's temptation, Hal's previously wavering heart became firm again.
"Can you truly give me the power to protect everything?"
