Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Summoned by the Alliance Leader

Thanks to Ling Yue's care and Aunt San's devotion, Ji En's recovery was swift. Within days, he could walk again.

One morning, Tian Tongzi arrived: the Alliance Leader Ji Lianyu summoned Ji En to the great hall.

Ji En declined Aunt San's support and walked alone. Tian Tongzi's gaze held less disdain now, shaded instead with curiosity—and something like sympathy.

The path was long. Ji En's breath came ragged, but he pressed on. Tian Tongzi slowed, even pointing out parts of the Alliance grounds.

Ji En remained silent. He understood well enough: their respect came not from gratitude, but from circumstance. He had not begged for Ling Yue's hand, proving he sought no gain. And he had inherited a scripture none could master—the Samadhi True Fire—making him a figure of pity rather than threat.

At last, they entered the majestic hall. Dozens of high-ranking cultivators turned their eyes on him—this ragged youth with pale face and tattered clothes.

At the head sat a tall, austere man, eyes steady and piercing, features faintly like Ling Yue's. Ji Lianyu, Alliance Leader.

Ji En steadied himself, bowed. "Junior Ji En greets the Alliance Leader and honored elders."

He deliberately used Ji Lianyu's surname—setting himself as guest, not kin.

Ji Lianyu nodded. His voice was calm, yet carried authority. "No need for formality. You are still injured. Sit."

A chair was brought, but Ji En refused. "I thank the Alliance Leader, but I will stand."

Ji Lianyu did not press. His tone grew stern. "Tianyu acted with arrogance and cruelty, disgracing our order. By council decree, he is punished—his lineage struck from the rolls, retained here to atone through service. Does this satisfy you?"

Ji En understood—this was as far as fairness could go. He bowed slightly. "The Alliance acts with justice. Ling Yue too acted rashly in anger. A warning for Feng Tianyu is enough."

A flicker of approval passed through Ji Lianyu's eyes. "Ling Yue is both disciple and daughter. You saved her life. You deserve reward. Tell me—what do you desire?"

The hall fell silent. All waited.

Ji En lifted his head. His voice was steady, eyes clear.

"I want nothing."
