Chapter 1 - New Life

"Son, when will I see my daughter-in-law?"

"Mm Hmm, Julian, You should find a girlfriend! All of your friends are married, you're the only one left! Aren't you lonely?"

Hah…again with that daughter-in-law talk.

Well… No, I don't want a girlfriend. I'm happy on my own, I have freedom, and I can do whatever I want with my money, and as long as I have my parents by my side, I'm fine.

What about later when they are gone, you asked? Well… I didn't think of that yet, I'll let my future self deal with that. For now, I'll just enjoy every moment with them.

"Hah… Mom, Dad… You already know what my answer is, just stop with that daughter-in-law talk."

I sat in the back seat. Dad was driving, and Mom was in the front seat. She crossed her arms, puffing her cheek like a sulking child, looking back at me with a mix of voice sternness and warmth.

"Hmph! ...I guess I'm going to die before I even get the chance to see my grandchild's face, huh?"

"Mom… don't say that."

"What? You're already twenty-eight! You can't even find a girlfriend! Oh God, just what did I do wrong to make my son be a loner?"

Dad chuckled. "Go easy on him. He'll be fine on his own."

Thanks, Dad, you are my life savior. If he hadn't stepped in, Mom would've kept going.

"It's because you spoiled him like that; he became a loner! Humph!"

The arrow turned toward Dad now. Sorry, Dad, and thank you.

I was on my way to the beach, enjoying a rare holiday from work. But that day…the greatest disaster of my life struck me. Our car was hit and crushed by a truck—its driver was a drunkard, swerving recklessly down the road.

"Mom! Dad!"

Boom!

The world flipped. Metal screamed. Darkness swallowed me.

—----

When I woke up, I was already in the hospital.

"Mom! Dad!"

"Hah…hah…"

'What happened? Didn't I get hit by a truck?'

My whole body ached. Bandages wrapped me like a mummy. A steady beep echoed in my ears, each pulse matching the frantic hammering of my heart.

'This is… a hospital? More importantly, where are my parents? Are they okay?'

All of my questions were answered a moment later. The door opened and a nurse came in, when she saw me, her eyes widened, and she quickly called the doctor. The doctor arrived a moment later. With a warm smile that can calm you down just by seeing his face, he said:

"How do you feel? Do you remember who you are?"

"Yes, I do. More importantly, where are my parents? Are they fine?"

When I asked that question, a warm smile on the doctor's face disappeared. The doctor looked at me with the kind of gaze that didn't need words—steady, heavy, and unbearably gentle.

His mouth opened, closed, and then opened again, and the silence between those moments told me everything.

My heart sank. My vision blurred. My ears went numb, and my breathing turned ragged.

'No, no, no…please… Please, don't do this to me … please!'

I faint again from the shock. I can hear the doctor shouting at me; his voice was blurred, and I can't hear it clearly. Well…it doesn't matter anymore…

—----

"Son, when will I see my daughter-in-law?"

"Mm Hmm, Julian, you should find a girlfriend! All of your friends are married…."

'Huh? What's happening? Mom and Dad? They're fine?'

'Huh? Why can't I talk?'

The conversation kept going. This is the last conversation I had with my parents. I have to warn them! I have to-!

"It's because you spoiled him like that, he became—"

'No no no! Stop the car!'

Boom!

"Hah…hah…?"

"A dream?"

My chest tightened, and before I knew it, tears were streaming down my face—all because I couldn't stop thinking about the last conversation I had with them.

—----

Six months later.

"Haaa...what a stupid novel…."

It's already been six months since that accident. After finishing my parent's funeral. I shut myself in my room… wasting time like a man who's waiting for his last day.

My room is a mess. Trash littered the floor. Empty ramen cups stacked on the desk. The curtain is shut tight, there's not a single ray of sunlight in my room. The only light came from my computer screen. I sat there, in front of my computer, scrolling endlessly while eating instant noodles.

I was reading a novel called "Unknown Feature" Strange, right? I think so too.

But after reading novels the whole six months. There's nothing left that piques my attention. So I pick that novel, even though there's only one chapter.

This novel is really unknown, I mean… How can a main character die at the start of the story? He didn't even get the chance to reveal his hidden talent.

Strangely, it was uploaded five years ago—and there's only one chapter. So out of curiosity I left a comment:

—Just how are you going to write a story without the protagonist?

I wasn't expecting any reply from the author because it's been five years since the last update, after all. But…he replied.

—Do you want to know how the story would unfold?

I didn't think much of it, I thought he would just begin writing his novel again, so I said:

—Yes

—Then see it for yourself. I wish you the best of luck! [Smiling Emoji]

'Huh? What do you mean, "see it for yourself"? "I wish you the best of luck!"? What the hell?'

'Sigh… Whatever, it's already 2 p.m. I'm just going to sleep.'

—----

Someone is shouting at me. Her voice seems to be in a hurry. Is she waking me up?

'Let me sleep in peace.'

"Young Master!...Young Master!"

'Huh? Young Master? Who? Me?'

When I opened my eyes, I saw a maid waking me up from my sleep. Why do I feel familiar with this scene? Huh? What is she saying?

My mind is a mess right now. I can't think straight. I feel dizzy. Only after a moment is the dizziness gone. I can finally think clearly. While gathering my thoughts, what snapped me out of my thoughts was a maid's voice.

"Young Master!"

"Huh?...What?"

"Huuu… finally!"

She seems to be exhausted from waking me up. While cleaning her throat, she wiped the sweat from her forehead, and then she spoke up:

"Young Master, it's time to prepare for the academy."

Huh? Academy? What's she talking about? At that moment a thought struck me. That comment, "No way…" No way, right?.

I quickly get out of my bed, searching for a mirror. The maid tilted her head, looking at me with the question mark on her head. Then she asked:

"Young Master, what are you looking for?"

I answered in a hurry.

"Where's the bathroom?"

She seems confused that I'm asking her where my bathroom is. Because this is my room. Despite the confusion, she pointed me to the bathroom.

I run into the bathroom and look at the mirror, what I see in the mirror makes me freeze.

A young man with black hair and red eyes, his body is of a 17-year-old kid. His face is not that handsome…but it's not ugly for sure, just somewhat decent.

Now I'm sure. That author bastard…

I didn't understand what he meant back then. Now I know exactly what he meant by those words, because right now I'm inside of that novel, and I'm the protagonist…

Yup, I'm the Mc….

I don't even know what I should say to the author. Should I thank him for at least transmigrating me into the body of the protagonist? Or should I curse him for throwing me into the body of someone who's going to die soon?

Haaa…. I don't know anymore.

But one thing's for sure…I'm screwed.

"Sigh….. Okay, first, let's calm down and think of a solution."

Let's recall everything that I know about this world. The protagonist's name is Rave Ashthorn.

He's the son of a baron—his father is Corvin Ashthorn, and his mother is Maris Ashthorn.

This world has things like magic and martial arts. Of course there are also monsters and demons. 2000 years ago, the Demon God tried to destroy the world. Fortunately, seven heroes appeared and defeated the Demon God.

Umm…it would be more correct to say they sealed him. The Demon God did not die. And 1000 years later, the seal the heroes set on the Demon God began to weaken.

After a few decades had passed, dimensional cracks appeared all over the world. Inside of that dimension crack, there are demons. In order to close the dimension crack, we have to go in and destroy the core of that dimension crack. If we don't after 30 days, the demons will come out of that crack and slaughter every living being they see.

Once again a war occurred between humans and demons. But after 500 years have passed, humans have begun to be able to manage the Dimensions Crack under control. After another 500 years have passed, even though humans can't get rid of Dimension Cracks completely, they are able to control the Cracks better than 500 years ago.

And like that, once again a peaceful era began. And that's the present. The Academy's purpose was to protect the world from demons. They trained the young kids into powerful monsters in order to protect the world.

And I'm going to become one of those kids…..

"Sigh… How annoying… New life, huh?"
