Silver woke up the morning after the parking lot reconciliation feeling like she'd been hit by a truck. Her body ached from standing in the cold. Her eyes were swollen from crying. But her heart felt lighter than it had in days.
She and Eli had reconciled. They'd promised to try. They'd kissed and meant it.
Everything was going to be okay.
She reached for her phone. No new messages from Eli, but it was only 7 AM. He'd probably texted late last night after she'd fallen asleep.
Silver scrolled up. Found their last exchange from the parking lot.
Eli: Thank you for fighting for us. For not giving up. I love you.
Silver: I love you too. See you tomorrow?
Eli: Tomorrow. Promise.
That had been at 8 PM last night. Nothing since.
Silver typed: Good morning. Still on for today?
She waited. No immediate response. But that was fine. He was probably still asleep or at early morning practice.
