Chapter 39 - chapter 39

Suzanne sat in her room, her mind racing. Every thought was consumed with Ryan and the realization that he had chosen Mia. She clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms, as fury and jealousy battled within her. "He doesn't belong to her," she whispered to herself. "He belongs to me. I will make him see that."

Her room was dimly lit, shadows flickering across the walls, reflecting the storm of determination in her eyes. She pulled out a notebook and began scribbling a plan, detailing every possible way she could interfere. Every little move Mia made, every time Ryan smiled or laughed at her, Suzanne made a mental note to manipulate or disrupt it. "If I can't have him by choice," she thought, "I'll take him by force… or by cleverness."

Meanwhile, across the city, Daniel's obsession with Mia had grown uncontrollable. He couldn't get her out of his mind. Every woman he saw, every flirtation, failed to excite him because Mia's image haunted his thoughts. Her laughter, her smile, the way she furrowed her brows when she was thinking—all of it tormented him and, at the same time, drew him closer to a dangerous desire. He paced his apartment, running a hand through his hair.

"I can't stop thinking about her," he muttered. "Why can't I just… why can't I let her go?" He sank into a chair, staring blankly at the wall. The longer he thought about her, the more a twisted plan began to form. If Ryan and Mia were to be happy, Daniel could not allow it. The thought both terrified and excited him. "She's mine," he whispered under his breath. "I just need to make her see that."

Back at Ryan's house, the morning sunlight filtered through the curtains. Mia stirred awake in Ryan's arms, her head resting against his chest. She opened her eyes slowly, smiling softly as she traced small circles on his arm. Ryan, still half-asleep, opened his eyes and looked at her with warmth and adoration.

"Good morning," he whispered, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead.

"Morning," Mia murmured, stretching slightly. "I… I feel… safe with you."

Ryan tightened his embrace, a protective gleam in his eyes. "You're mine, Mia. No one will ever hurt you. I promise."

They got up together, prepared breakfast, and shared a few quiet laughs over pancakes and eggs, the ease and joy between them strengthening their bond. When it was time to go to the company, they walked hand in hand, their connection unspoken but undeniable. Every glance, every touch, reaffirmed that they belonged to each other.

But neither Mia nor Ryan noticed the shadow looming over their happiness. In the park, Suzanne was already enacting the first phase of her plan. She had been discreetly observing them from a distance, her eyes following every gesture, every smile, storing the details she would later use to disrupt their connection. "Soon," she whispered, "they'll regret ever thinking they could be happy together."

And Daniel, sitting alone in the darkness of his apartment, plotted in equal measure. His obsession had reached a fever pitch. He scrolled through social media, finding moments when Mia had been at the company or walking with Ryan, noting the times, the locations, and the small details that would allow him to create situations to separate them. "If I can't have her willingly," he said, a dangerous smile curling on his lips, "I'll make sure she can't be happy with anyone else either."

The city was alive, unaware of the looming storm. Mia and Ryan moved through their day, blissfully ignorant of the schemes threading around them. But as the shadows grew longer and the plans of Suzanne and Daniel became more daring, the calm before the storm was fading. The happiness they shared was fragile, a delicate bubble in a world about to test the strength of their bond.

And somewhere in the distance, the first pieces of Suzanne's plan began to fall into place, a subtle nudge here, a whispered lie there, all designed to pull Mia and Ryan apart. Daniel, equally determined, prepared to strike at the perfect moment. The stage was set. The battle for Mia's heart—and the hearts entwined with hers—was about to begin.
