Chapter 3 - Missions

[Bank: $155,902]

Kira looked at her status. She sighed heavily; she wanted nothing more than to flop on the bed and sleep, but she stunk and it hurt her nose.

She went, took a long shower, and finally crawled into bed to sleep.

Her eyes snapped open after a few seconds of being closed. She groaned lightly. The alarm bells rang out. She got up and put on some clothes.

Darion was walking out of the room at the same time as her. He took off the glasses and put them in his pocket. He smiled, looking at Kira.

"You can't get enough of me, huh?" He smiled, walking beside her.

"Anna," he waved over a small girl with pigtails. Kira recognized her from the people who joined her at the table.

"Kira, this is my bestie, Anna. Anna, this Kira." He introduced them both.

Kira glared at him. "Could you tell your friend to leave me alone?" She moved ahead, hoping to get lost in the crowd.

Not to her surprise, they both were able to keep up with her. Darion flashed a playful smile.

"Sorry, cupcake, but if Darion here likes you, you might as well just accept it." She gave her a look of pity.

"Sound creepy and mildly stalkerish." Kira frowned. Anna nodded, giving her a look.

Darion stepped in front of her. "Don't listen to her, I'm not a stalker. I'm just very persistent about what I want. Not in a stalkerish way in a I'm determined way…."

Anna pulled Kira away from him. "I'm just bullshiting, but look at him sweat." She whispered, looking back at Darion.

He was actually sweating. "You know, I think I need some sleep. Watch Marcus for me." He quickly took out his glasses and put them on.

He blinked a few times, looking around. He crumbled, folding into the crowd. Anna quickly grabbed him. "It's ok, I'm right here." She spoke in a soothing voice.

He held on to her tight as his chest pounded. His eyes landed on Kira, who made him freak out even more.

She rolled her eyes and walked away. She wasn't interested in any of that. Whatever it was.

Anna didn't blame her. She quickly hoisted him over her shoulder and moved forward. Kira thought it looked comical that a small girl was carrying a boy twice her size.

"Ladies and gentlemen." A familiar voice boomed. Kira looked up, seeing Gunther standing tall.

He scratched his big belly before continuing, "Your first day of school for the newcomers has been completed, meaning the missions are back online!" He shouted.

Many cheered while Kira frowned. 'I was woken up for this?' She sighed drastically.

'Fuck might as well see what they have while I'm here.' She, like many others, moved forward into the mission hall.

Luckily, it was big enough to fit so many students. There were five receptionist desks with people already standing in line to complete missions.

Kira moved around. The missions were written on slips tagged on the wall or on the tablets placed around the room on stands.

She looked at the walls. She noticed the slips were all color coordinated.

The yellow tasks were just mundane tasks that they could do around the facility.

[Yellow Mission:

Task: Pick Moonspaids for the gardening club.

Requirement: 50 Moonspaids

Reward: $50, $5 extra for each extra moonspaids.]

Kira quickly moved on. Moonspaids were giant gas plants. It would take her a few hours, but the pay was far too low.

She moved on. The blue was more promising, but still not right.

[Blue Mission:

Task: Help the Fico County Police Department (More details will be revealed upon acceptance.)

Requirement: Obtain a signed notary from the Fico Police

Reward: $500, A voucher for one free luxury meal.]

Next were the red and the green missions. These were the ones that piqued her interest the most.

[Red Mission:

Task: Bring in the Alpha killer

Requirement: Dead or alive, bring in Vin Han

Reward: $1000, A free class]

[Green Mission:

Task: Hunt the silver-feathered monkeys in Canaco

Requirement: harvest the feathers of the Silver-feathered monkeys.

Reward: $1 for every feather brought back.]

Kira's eyes were glued to these two missions. She didn't plan on taking a mission this early, but if she did, these were the ones she'd go for.

"You can't register for those missions." A small voice sounded behind her. She furrowed her brows, looking back.

It was a female. Tall, blue skin, black hair, and two black horns on her head. One on either side.

She could tell she was a few years older than her. She was taller than Kira, yet she lowered herself to make Kira seem bigger. "What are you doing?" Kira asked, confused.

"I was just telling you you will need a team to complete any mission above Blue Tier." She looked down at Kira's feet, not daring to look her in the eyes.

Kira frowned, seeing this, but didn't comment on it yet. She needed information. "How many members do you need in a team?"

"Two or more." The girl perked up slightly but shrank back down quickly. "If you need another teammate-"

"Not a chance, Jinx." Darion's harsh voice cut her off from speaking. He walked in front of Kira. "Have you no shame. These people have only been here for a day, and you're already cursing them." He spat angrily.

Jinx shrank more and more after every word. Tears began to stream down her face. "I'm sorry, but I haven't eaten in over a week."

"Who-" Kira put her hand on Darion's shoulder, stopping him. She moved to his side, looking between them both before looking around.

Darion's words weren't soft or friendly in the slightest. Everyone had stopped to look at them.

She turned back to Jinx and Darion. "What's happening?"

Darion huffed, calming down a little. He glanced at Kira before his eyes went back to Jinx. "This is Jinx. A name she got from her parents. She has a natural affinity for the mythical creatures outside the barrier."

His fist clenched. "Something she always seems to neglect to tell everyone."

Darion's eyes finally turn back to Kira. "Her affinity attracts all kinds of creatures in her direction, causing hordes of beasts to rush in your direction."

Kira's eyebrow raised. "Can you control it?" She turned to Jinx, who could shake her head no.

"Have you tried?" She once again shook her head no.

"Do you have a power dampener?" Kira continued to ask questions. Jinx shook her head, "They cost money."

Kira turned around, ignoring the blue girl trembling in front of her.

She eyed the mission board. Darion turned around as well. Since Kira didn't seem fazed by it, neither did he.

Jinx took this chance to rush out of the mission hall. Tears blurred her vision as she ran.

"How many people do you need for the red and green missions?" She asked him.

"Two or more." He said.

"How many missions can we take at once?" Kira asked, not looking at him.

"Ten…" He raised his eyebrow. "Why?" Kira shook her head. "Just curious." She moved and walked out of the mission hall.

She was serious about waiting. Especially since she needed a partner to join her.

Darion followed her. "I'm going to sleep, leave me alone." He shrugged. "I can sleep-" She stopped and glared at him.

He stopped and turned to walk in another direction. "I'll see you tomorrow."

Kira continued walking. She moved in the direction of her room but turned to the right at the last stretch. She moved down a plain hallway.

She stopped at a door and knocked. It didn't take long for it to open. Jinx peeked out. Her eyes widened in shock.

She quickly tried to make herself look smaller. "Stop," she froze. "You look ridiculous, just stand up."

"Also, it's disrespectful to not look at someone while they talk. It lets them know you're listening." Kira smiled, seeing Jinx's head rise.

"Are you listening, Jinx?" Kira stepped into the room. Jinx stepped back, nodding.

"Good," Kira looked around the room.

It was a standard room. Small TV, a bed, a dresser, and a desk off in the corner.

She turned to the small bathroom with a toilet, a shower, and a standard sink.

Jinx frowned, seeing Kira's mockery. 'This is a standard room. If this isn't good, then what is?' Her body froze thinking about the luxury rooms.

She shook her head; she was struggling to keep this room, and here was Kira in a luxury room. Jinx remembered that she was new, and she realized how bad that was going to end.

Kira smirked, seeing her face. She turned around, "Why does Darion care about your ability so much?" Jinx held her head down.

"…" Kira stood looking at Jinx.

One minute, two, then four. Four minutes went by, and Kira stood there waiting for Jinx. Jinx glanced up.

She expected Kira to say something by now. Change the subject. Maybe even push the subject. But not silence.

She stared at her like a calm predator watching its prey. Learning their ways, their cultures, everything. Just for the perfect kill.

Jinx swallowed hard, "When he first came, he took pity on me and invited me to join his team…" Tears welled in her eyes. "There was a stampede, and three of his team members ended up dead." She still continued.

"Yeah, if we're going to work together, no more crying, it's ridiculous." Kira rolled her eyes.

Jinx perked up. "Work together? Y-you want to work with me?" She looked at Kira, shocked.

Dealing with hordes is anyone's worst nightmare. She couldn't figure out Kira's angle.

"Here." Kira reached out with her hand. Jinx eyed it hesitantly. "Get you something to eat. In a week, meet me at Mission Hall."

She grabbed Jinx's hand with her watch attached to it. Tapping them together, a ding was heard.

She had transferred about $1000 into Jinx's account. "I need you in prime condition. Be ready."

She moved out of the room before Jinx could register what had happened. She slowly snapped out of her gaze. She moved her watch to face her.

[Bank: $1005]

"Holy shit." It had been a while since she had had this much money. Her heart beat quickly, and she left the room to buy some food.

Kira watched her leave. She needed to know what kind of person Jonx was when she had money. This would determine their future relationship.

She was surprised to see Jinx not enter the cafeteria but the school store. Although Kira had heard of it, she herself had never been in there.

It was locked yesterday to any new students. It, along with the mission board, should be available to them now.

She waited; she didn't want Jinx to know she was watching her, so she hid in the shadows. It didn't take long for Jinx to rush out of the store with giant bags of food.

She rushed back to her room hungrily. Kira didn't follow; instead, she went to check out the shop.

"Good eve-" Marcus turned around and paused. He adjusted his glasses before nodding. "Good evening, welcome to the prison's store."

Kira frowned, "I just managed to get rid of your brother, now you show up." She shook her head. "I'm very unlucky."

Marcus frowned, "Darion's been following you?" Kira heard the concern in his voice.

"So it's true he is a stalker." She moved around the store, not taking the conversation to heart.

The store was big. To the right was the clothing and armor. She looked at the metallic chest plate with blue fabric underneath for comfort.

"Yeah, he is. Which is why you should stay away from him." Marcus said seriously. "He's not a bad person, and he won't hurt you, but he will definitely hurt people around you."

"I've tried, he's like a mutant Livaroach just keep coming back." Further down from the clothes were the weapons.

She went over and examined the swords. Much better qualities than the ones she made.

"You have to take what I say seriously." He stepped forward. She moved to the magic area. Spellbooks, potions, and magical objects.

"You know the best thing about free will." She glanced at him before turning to look at the objects. "I can do whatever I please. Including not taking anything you say seriously."

She chuckled lightly, placing several items on the counter. He shook his head, "Just at least be careful."

"I'm always careful." She swiped her card after he rang up the items.

She sighed heavily, looking at her new bank balance.

[Bank: $65,902]

"Money in this place goes too fast." She hadn't bought more than five items, yet she went down $90,000.

She walked into her room and sighed. Today had been a long day for her. She stretched lazily, placing the bag on the table. Ignored it, going to bed to sleep.

She changed into her pajamas and lay down. She quickly drifted off to sleep.
