The Joker grinned at Harley. "Harley, I once had a billion. Stay with me, and we can return to greatness!"
Harley rolled her eyes. She had no interest in this rotten peach blossom.
Batman posted a talisman on himself and laughed. "Joker, stand trial!"
The two clashed again. With the spiritual shield protecting him, Batman took absolute control of the fight.
Suddenly, the Joker shouted, "Master, I want to buy a talisman too!"
Lin Chen shook his head. "This store doesn't take credit."
"Then I'll rob Penguin's bank next time!" the Joker sneered.
"You won't get a next time!" Batman charged again. Meanwhile, Harley, Poison Ivy, and Sister Widow teamed up, knocking the Joker's men to the ground.
Bruised and leaning against a wall, the Joker glanced at the bay below. "Chuck, Batman… see those two ships? They're going to be fireworks. Happy?"
Batman froze. Two massive ships in the bay, each with people on board. The lights were bright, and at least a few dozen hostages were visible on each vessel.
The Joker laughed. "One ship holds civilians, the other prisoners. I packed each with explosives and diesel. Press the detonator for one, and the other explodes—but you'll save your own. Fail to choose by 2 PM, and both go up!"
"Human nature," he cackled, "I want Batman to see it!"
Jill's phone buzzed. Dent was on his way. Nearly ten thousand lives were at stake. Trembling, Jill asked, "Master, what do we do?"
Lin Chen looked at Poison Ivy. "Ivy, didn't you say it's not really a detonator? That it's a self-detonator?"
Ivy blinked. "Me?"
Lin Chen smiled, patting her shoulder. "You said the Joker's info was fake. Pressing the button would blow up his own ship, not the other."
Ivy grinned, realizing the opportunity for heroics. "Yes! I figured it out, Taoist priest!"
Sister Widow facepalmed. Please act better!
Jill immediately ordered the ship crews not to touch anything, avoiding accidental deaths.
Lin Chen knew that, like in the movies, people might hesitate and let go—but human nature was unpredictable. Greed, fear, temptation… any could cause disaster. Poison Ivy's insight, however, ensured the crews stayed put.
The Joker screamed in frustration. "No! I really bombed them!"
Batman sneered. "Clown, your little rhyme is absurd. You think pressing a button will kill them… but it will only kill you. Typical clown."
The Joker's expression twisted into disbelief and despair. "I… I was tricked by myself? Or did the wolf shout too much?"
For ten tense minutes, neither ship exploded. Everyone had chosen stillness.
The Joker fumed. "No one can be trusted! I'll do it myself!" He reached for the ultimate detonator.
Batman lunged to stop him, but the Joker's pockets were empty. He rummaged frantically.
Lin Chen smiled, embracing Poison Ivy's waist. "Clown, you truly are a pauper. Can't find a dime in your pockets."
The Joker was speechless.
Lin Chen chuckled. "Joker, your detonator is with Ivy."
Ivy whispered, startled, "Master, I didn't take it."
"In your pocket. Use the hook and show him."
She checked her left pocket—nothing. Lin Chen waved his hand. "Right pocket?"
She checked again, finally producing the detonator. Everyone groaned. The improvisation between the Taoist priest and Ivy was terrifyingly effective.
Sister Widow groaned. "Scary! Men and women!"
Batman finally understood. No wonder Lin Chen had so many admirers—he measured everyone by their own standards.
The Joker lunged at Poison Ivy but was kicked down by Batman. The fight raged on.
Jill coordinated with the ships, guiding them safely to shore.
Dent contacted Lin Chen. "Master, your contribution to Gotham is enormous. Poison Ivy is hopeful for amnesty, and there's even a bonus for you."
Lin Chen shook his head. "It's not about bonuses. It's about fighting crime and protecting Gotham's citizens."
Sister Widow and Harley exchanged an eye-roll at his hypocritical speech.
Poison Ivy adored him. "Daoist, you're amazing. I'm completely in awe!"
Lin Chen patted her shoulder. "You finally understand me."
Sister Widow, unable to hold back, grabbed a broom and pummeled the Joker mercilessly.
"Commit crimes every day! Hurt innocents!"
The Joker yelped. "Housewife! Brooms are for sweeping floors!"
Sister Widow was relentless, but a rogue brick underfoot sent her slipping off the building.
"Ah!" she screamed. I fight well but die because of a brick?
Lin Chen laughed, realizing, She stole ten of my inverted emblems—no wonder she's clumsy. He grabbed a broom and soared after her.
Harley and Poison Ivy panicked. "Master! You'll die too!"
Lin Chen shouted, "This isn't just a broom—it flies! Magic broom!"
"Trust me!" he yelled.
With spiritual energy gathering beneath him, he soared through the air, catching up to Sister Widow.
She reflected mid-fall. I shouldn't die… that stinky Taoist priest hasn't been paid for a month, and I have so much at stake. If I die…
Lin Chen caught her, laughing. "Hui, beauty! Still thinking about life after jumping off a building?"
Sister Widow groaned, realizing she wasn't done yet—but she was safe, thanks to the Taoist priest's unconventional heroics.
