Jill could barely contain herself. She needed to find a crack in the ground to sneak in—or else, the stinky Taoist priest would be shot down before she even got a chance.
Glowering at Lin Chen, she sprinted back to her office and slammed the door shut.
Lin Chen shrugged casually at the onlookers. "Girls, you're always shy… don't make her embarrassed."
The other detectives nodded, understanding the cue.
Once Lin Chen finished, he stepped outside, hopped onto his motorcycle, and headed home, already thinking about the invisible man. This guy's coming for me today, so I need to be ready.
He casually drew a lottery:
[Ding! Congratulations, host draws a purple reward—the Spirit Shield Talisman.]
[Spirit Shield Talisman: Input spiritual power in advance. When attacked, a spiritual power shield activates to resist waves and energy attacks.]
Perfect. This would prevent him from being hit by random bullets or surprise attacks.
Lin Chen began crafting his talismans—spiritual shields, lucky charms, emblems, and even peach blossom charms. He wasn't entirely sure why the peach blossom charm was necessary, but he included it anyway.
Meanwhile, Harley Quinn called. "Master, where are you? Picking up girls again?"
Lin Chen chuckled. "Nope, just finishing up here. Don't come over yet."
Harley Quinn frowned. "Is that the invisible man from the livestream?"
Lin Chen nodded seriously. "Yes. But don't worry—you won't be able to help if he's here. It's dangerous."
Harley pouted. "Then be careful yourself!"
After a quick boxing session and shower, Lin Chen checked the time. The invisible man would soon arrive at a remote spot…
Thorn! The sound of tires scratching the asphalt. Jill drove in, stepped out with long, vigilant strides, and entered the store.
"Master, do you see anything suspicious?" she asked.
Before Lin Chen could answer, he yanked her close, scanning left and right.
"No!"
Jill frowned. "Then why are you holding me? Let go!"
Lin Chen smiled. "Police, let him think I'm distracted. Make him underestimate me."
Jill glared but stayed quiet. "I haven't settled this with you yet. The whole Southern District knows about us now."
"Exactly," Lin Chen whispered, "He's here."
Jill froze. From the corner of her eye, she saw him leaning against a pole, watching them.
Lin Chen pulled Jill's waist close. "We're going for a walk. Lead him into the trap."
Jill's hand hovered over her pistol. She nodded.
The two walked to the edge of Chinatown, where a small, empty forest awaited. The invisible man followed, silently fuming. He Dehe actually has such a beautiful girlfriend… I'll make him pay. Or enjoy the sight before I crush him!
Jill whispered, "You didn't see anything, right? You're not planning to take advantage of me?"
Lin Chen shook his head. "Of course not."
Jill patted his waist. "Not that kind of person… huh?"
They reached the forest's edge. The invisible man tensed, ready to strike.
Suddenly, Lin Chen acted. A swift kick—Bang!—sent the invisible man crashing to the ground.
Jill spun, raising her gun, but all she saw were leaves crushed under invisible weight. Strange…
"Invisible man, stay put!" Jill shouted.
Lin Chen nudged her aside. "He's right in front of us."
A voice came from the air: "Can you see me?"
Lin Chen shrugged. "Otherwise, I'd be vomiting from what I'm seeing. Keep it honest—stop hiding."
The invisible man froze. "You can… see me?"
"Yes. So I don't need to waste time."
Only then did Jill realize how dangerous this opponent was. Her head spun.
The invisible man lunged, throwing a punch.
Lin Chen countered swiftly—Xingyiquan and Wing Chun flowing together. Bang! Bang! The invisible man hit the ground again.
He patted the leaves off himself. "You fight well, but you can't kill me. My skin is harder than you can imagine."
Lin Chen smiled. "Your defense is strong… but your mouth, nose, and ears? Molten iron will take care of you."
The invisible man grinned. "You think I'm a fool? You both will die today!"
Lin Chen was about to kick again when he suddenly shielded Jill behind him.
Monument! Monument! Monument!
Three shots rang out, bullets striking Lin Chen in the back!
Jill's heart nearly stopped. Lin Chen had been shot protecting her! She fired back wildly at the invisible man.
The assailant moved with incredible speed, evading her bullets.
Jill cradled the fainted Lin Chen. Tears streamed down her face. "Lin! Wake up!"
The invisible man sneered. "Three shots to the head… dead, right? Time for me to have fun."
Jill glared, refusing to yield. More bullets ricocheted harmlessly off his invisible form.
"Impossible…" he hissed, frustration rising. "A few more shots won't be enough!"
