"Could it be the Taoist's doing?" someone whispered. "They say he commands strange formations—sometimes summoning men, sometimes ghosts!"
"It must be him. That Taoist is terrifying… those Asans have no idea what they're up against."
Through the shop window, Jill Valentine's eyes widened. The five Asans circled endlessly outside, too afraid to approach, panic etched across their faces.
"Idiots! This way!" Jill shouted, waving an arm.
They didn't react.
"They can't hear you," Lin Chen said with an easy laugh. He stepped forward and pressed a stone at the edge of the doorway.
Harley Quinn leaned on his shoulder, half-teasing. "Master, are you really going to let them wander like that? They look pitiful."
Lin Chen shook his head. "I'm not wasting spiritual energy keeping the formation open all night. I just infused a bit of aura—enough to keep them looping till morning."
Both women rolled their eyes in perfect sync. This Taoist really isn't a good person.
"Try to behave," Jill sighed.
Lin Chen smiled knowingly. "Oh? You just want to see me fight them."
"So obvious?" Jill muttered.
"If you want a show, come to the stream tomorrow. Maybe send a few donations."
"I'm broke, you scammer!" she complained, raising both hands in mock surrender.
Dinner finished, Lin Chen planned to keep Harley back for a little game of Red Light, Green Light—but Jill intercepted, dragging Harley off to keep chatting about their "Afkhan adventure." Harley couldn't bring herself to refuse.
Lin Chen watched them leave and sighed theatrically."One girl and there's water to drink; two girls and suddenly the well runs dry. Add a third, and they'll all die of thirst. Tragic."
After digesting, he ran through a set of boxing forms until his body hummed with energy. Checking his merit points, he grinned."Tantong, draw the lottery."

Lin Chen's eyes gleamed. "Now that is a cool skill."
Later, lying in bed, he scrolled through Gotham real-estate listings. With robbery now officially legalized, panic spread among the city's wealthy, and prices plummeted. Perfect time to buy.
"New York's crawling with S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Sentry Organization," he murmured. "Too many watchdogs. But Gotham? Full of criminals. No one can keep order here. Ideal."
He bookmarked a few seaside villas—luxurious, half-abandoned, going for mere tens of thousands. Soon, he thought.
Morning — The Five Refugees
Sunlight spilled across the shop when Harley roared up on her motorcycle, hair tousled.
"Sister Jill talked all night," she groaned, rubbing her temples. "We didn't sleep till three."
Lin Chen smiled. "Then you came here to catch up on sleep?"
She shot him a look. "You wish. There are five half-dead refugees outside your door."
He peered out. The five Asans lay slumped on the pavement, hollow-eyed and broken-spirited.
"Well," he sighed, "guess I'll stream this."
Harley leaned in, whispering with a mischievous grin, "You're only free at noon anyway."
"Can I?"
"One, two, three—wooden man!" she teased.
Laughing, Lin Chen set up his phone and went live.
The Livestream
It was the weekend; viewers flooded in instantly.
"The Taoist's live again!""I couldn't eat yesterday without his stream!""Didn't a bunch of Asans challenge him last night?""Yeah! They walked into the dark and vanished!""No signal since then—where are they?"
Lin Chen angled the camera toward the street. "Right there," he said, smiling. "Looks like they plan to camp at my door. Terrifying."
"No way—they're actually there!""What happened to them?!""Did the Taoist use magic again?"
A familiar name flashed across chat—Little Wild Cat.
"Come clean, Taoist! Did you cast a spell?"
Lin Chen chuckled. "No need to panic. Just a little formation. They'll be fine by noon—no casualties."
"See? He did it!""Master, please take me as a disciple!""He's just pretending—it's probably some minor super-ability." — Paradise Island Girl
Lin Chen raised a brow. "Paradise Island? Don't tell me that's Diana."
He grinned at the camera. "You there, little girl from Paradise Island—you can drop the act. I can tell you're actually an auntie."
"You insolent priest!" Diana's furious typing practically shook the screen.
Another message popped up:
"I think the Taoist's a good guy." — Polaris
"Polaris! Report to the Sentry immediately!" — Ms. Wang
"Don't go!"
The chat spiraled into chaos.
Lin Chen laughed. "Miss Wang, business talk doesn't suit this stream. We're here to relax."
"[Miss Wang]: Really, Taoist Priest, I could help you 'loosen your bones.'""Public solicitation, huh?" Lin Chen said, amused. "What kind of clients do you think I entertain?"
"He's definitely dating that leg queen!""Daoist! The Leg Queen promised you free sessions for life!"
At that, Ada Wang—screen name Miss Wang—winced. Maybe that username hadn't been such a good idea.
The viewer count climbed past ten thousand.
Lin Chen clapped his hands. "All right, my friends, fortune-telling or fighting—what shall it be today?"
"Fight! Fight!" flooded the chat, a sea of 2's.
Even Harley joined in, laughing. "Master, I want to see it too. They've been blocking the doorway all morning."
"Fair point." Lin Chen nodded. "When Mrs. Daoist speaks, who dares refuse?"
"Unbelievable! A man like that still has a girlfriend?!" — Paradise Island Girl"Just wait," someone replied. "The ones who complain first are always the first to fall for him.""The Law of True Fragrance never fails!"
Lin Chen stretched lazily. "All right, my dear water-friends, time to meet our guests."
He walked out and nudged aside the stones anchoring the formation. The spell dispersed, and the five Asans—led by Master Lager—blinked in confusion as daylight returned.
"It's morning?!""We… we survived!"
Lin Chen smiled faintly. "You've been loitering outside my shop all night. Any longer and I'd start charging rent."
Harley giggled behind him. Shameless, but adorable.
Lager glared, furious yet shaken. "So, a man from Xia Country also practices magic. Dare you test yourself against us?"
Lin Chen shrugged. "You should've listened to my warning last time, Master Lager. The stroller-crash incident still haunts the internet."
The four men beside Lager exchanged uneasy glances. If they didn't redeem themselves today, they'd never live it down.
Lager swallowed his pride. "Fine. We'll fight—but first, food and water."
Lin Chen gestured graciously. "Be my guests."
