Chapter 139 - Huanggang Secret Papers

"I'm sorry, I don't understand how this relates to fire control," Genos shook his head, a bit puzzled. In their world, there was no such thing as the Huanggang Secret Papers, and he couldn't see how completing a test could be related to controlling fire.

"Fire control doesn't mean I have some fire-based superpower. It means my mental strength has reached the point where I can manipulate objects and perform offense and defense purely with my will."

As he spoke, Han Yu gently tapped the table with his forefinger. Everyone watched in astonishment as the teapot on the table floated into the air, hovering steadily.

With another flick of his finger, tea poured itself into everyone's cups before the teapot gently floated back onto the table.

This display shocked everyone. All eyes suddenly turned toward Fubuki, because Han Yu's actions were eerily similar to her sister, Tornado (also known as Tatsumaki), whose abilities closely resembled what Han Yu was demonstrating.

The Hero Association had only labeled Tornado as a general "esper," without specifying her powers. Now it seemed Han Yu was demonstrating mental strength control exactly as he described.

Han Yu pulled out a set of Huanggang Secret Papers and smiled. "These are from my shop. They've been transcribed using mental energy. Each set contains one sheet for language, math, and English. Take them and complete them—three hours from now, bring them back to me. Your final score will reflect your potential in mental strength."

The reason Han Yu used this type of mental-strength test in the form of Huanggang papers was because in his previous life, as a normal human, he had been "tormented" by similar exams. He had felt that completing them relied purely on willpower. Now, presenting them as a test of mental strength was a bit of dark humor on his part.

Fubuki's interest was piqued. She grabbed a set and said, "I'll take one. I'll pay you later!"

Her relationship with her sister wasn't particularly close. Since birth, her sister had been a prodigy, and Fubuki had always lived in Tornado's shadow. Now, knowing she could test whether she had similar potential powers, she couldn't pass up the opportunity.

Han Yu conjured a few pens in his other hand. Fubuki immediately picked one up and began her test.

Genos didn't hesitate either. He took a set and started writing.

"You two aren't going to try?" Han Yu asked, noticing Saitama and King just watching.

Saitama waved his hand, indicating disinterest. King hesitated, saying, "I don't think I can afford this set."

"Aren't you an S-class hero? Doesn't the Hero Association pay you?" Han Yu asked.

King awkwardly smiled, pulling Han Yu aside. He whispered, "Honestly, my status comes from being in the right place when Saitama kills monsters. Somehow, I got promoted to S-class."

"I knew that," Han Yu replied casually.

"You knew?"

King was surprised. Only Saitama knew this truth. Everyone else assumed King was the "strongest man on Earth."

King remained seventh among S-class heroes because he never fought monsters. He let monsters scare themselves off with their imagined power, thus never losing—but also never winning.

Because his opponents scared themselves off, King had no victories either. He remained in seventh place, unchallenged.

Seeing that Han Yu knew this, King felt a bit embarrassed. "That's why I rarely go out. I'm afraid I'll meet a monster and lose. The Hero Association salary mostly goes to games and figurines."

"My status doesn't matter. What's important is, I sell things without fixed prices. Whether you can have it depends on me. Take a set and start," Han Yu said with an amused shrug, sending a set to King telekinetically.

King hesitated, then took it and sat down with Genos and Fubuki, starting the test.

Occasionally, the three showed confused expressions. King and Fubuki even scratched their heads in frustration, which made Han Yu smile. This was exactly how he had been when doing these tests himself—scratching one's head in confusion was normal.

"These are just ordinary questions?" Saitama asked quietly.

"They are ordinary, but the difficulty scales with your willpower. If your will is weak, the questions get harder to understand. Stronger will makes the questions easier. It's like a level system—the higher your level, the easier it is to comprehend," Han Yu explained.

Saitama nodded vaguely, then pulled out a two-player card game to play with Han Yu while doing some questions on the side.

Time passed quickly. The first to submit their paper was Genos.

Han Yu scanned it and gave a score: seventy points.

"Seventy? That's not very good, right?" Genos asked. The total was one hundred, so seventy was only slightly above passing.

"Not great, but it shows potential. Passing means you have a chance to cultivate mental strength further," Han Yu said.

"These questions were too hard," Genos said, disappointed with his score.

Next, Fubuki submitted her test. Her score was similar to Genos—sixty-nine points. Not high, but enough to continue cultivating mental strength.

Finally, King handed in his paper last. Han Yu, like before, glanced over it. But as he studied King's answers, his expression suddenly became serious. He looked carefully at the questions, pondering for a long moment before asking King:

"You took three hours to do this, and you were the last to submit. Why?"

"I thought I had a problem with the questions, but I was too embarrassed to ask. I got stuck on them for a long time," King said, embarrassed. He assumed being last meant he performed the worst.

He believed Genos and Fubuki had answered many correctly. Han Yu had quickly verified them. But King's answers needed extra scrutiny because he thought he had so many mistakes, so Han Yu examined them carefully to see if he could award a higher score.

Han Yu focused his mind and assigned a score to King's paper. King's eyes widened when he saw it.

Ninety-one points!

"This… how is this possible?" Everyone was stunned.
