Chapter 11 - Chapter 11:"The Princess Is Smiling Again. That’s Bad"

The next morning, sunlight spilled through the Academy's tall windows. I winced, remembering yesterday's sword incident. The diary had been silent, and that… glowing sword in my locker? Definitely not predicted.

Whiskerdoom yawned from his perch on my shoulder.

"You're tense, kid. Princess Smiles Level: Dangerous. Step carefully."

I scowled. "Thanks for the pep talk."

The Academy hallway was buzzing with students. Whispers followed me like a storm cloud. There's the villain. That's Riel Arkwood.

He's here? Don't go near him!

I hugged my books closer. The sword was still at my side, hidden beneath my coat. Every step felt like walking on a trapdoor.

And then… she appeared.

Princess Celis.

Her hair flowed like liquid gold, her dress shimmering with faint embroidery. And that smile. That smile.

The diary vibrated faintly.

"Warning: Princess smiles are more dangerous than most magical traps. Avoid excessive eye contact."

"Good morning, Riel," she said, voice soft as honey but sharp as a dagger.

I froze. My stomach sank. "Uh… Your Highness."

Celis tilted her head. "I hear you've been… handling the heroic relic."

I forced a chuckle. "Yeah… sword. Heavy. Shiny. Totally normal day, right?"

She took a step closer. "I must say… it suits you." Her eyes sparkled, and the diary went wild.

"Not good. Not good. Not good," I muttered under my breath.

Whiskerdoom hissed, fur bristling.

"That's a trap. Smiling trap. Run while you can."

I gulped. "I… I have classes. Lots of classes."

Celis smiled wider, almost triumphant. "Of course. But perhaps we'll see each other after? I'd like to… discuss your potential."

Potential. Dangerous word. Diary had no advice. Only a cryptic note:

" Princess Celis's smiles are more lethal than fire magic. Avoid charm like poison."

I nodded quickly, muttering, "Yes… potential… totally… we'll discuss later."

And then she was gone, gliding down the hallway like a beam of sunlight with teeth hidden behind the warmth.

"Diary!" I whispered. "Tell me what to do!"

Nothing. Silent.

Whiskerdoom sighed.

"You're alone, kid. Classic villain scenario: charming enemy approaches. Don't fall for it."

"Thanks, cat. I feel better already."

The day dragged. Every glance toward the Princess was a calculated risk. Every whisper in the hallway, a potential assassination plot. My classmates either avoided me like the plague or stared, debating if I'd already done something terrible today.

Then came lunch. I found a corner table, carefully placing the sword under my bag.

"You're… Riel, right?" a voice said. I looked up. A student, one I hadn't noticed, blue hair, sharp eyes. "I've… heard stories."

"Uh… yes, stories," I said, nodding cautiously. "All exaggerated, of course."

The student's gaze flicked toward the Princess. "She's… smiling at you a lot lately."

I nearly choked. "Smiling? Uh… yeah… totally normal. Nothing suspicious."

Whiskerdoom muttered, "Kid, you're dead if you keep talking."

I silenced myself, gripping my fork like a weapon. Every smile from Celis was a potential trap. Every compliment, a secret dagger.

And yet, somehow, I couldn't stop noticing the way her eyes lingered.

Focus. Survival. Ignore the plot.

The bell rang. I bolted from the cafeteria, hiding the sword under my coat. My heart raced.

Diary vibrated once more. A new line appeared:

"First smile detected. Threat level: extreme. Prepare countermeasures."

I groaned. "Countermeasures? Like… what? Hide under the bed? Burn down the Academy?"

Whiskerdoom flicked his tail.

"Step one: don't die. Step two: don't charm yourself into a trap. Step three: survive until the next day"

I sighed. Step three sounded suspiciously impossible.

And as I walked to class, I realized something terrifying: surviving the villain's script was no longer enough. I had to survive Celis's smiles, the unpredictable Hero, and the diary's silence.

This is going to be a long semester.
