Chapter 54 - Chapter 55

After a little asking around, Klein and Leonard came to know of the identity of the woman Klein had seen Maynard with before his apparent death- the woman's name was Madam Sharon, a famous and well-sought-after widow.

After a bit of mysticism as well as research- Klein had pretty much deduced what had apparently happened- Maynard and Sharon had ended up deciding to end the night together in bed which was not anything unusual with what rumors about Madam Sharon circulated around- and while they were... doing the deed, Maynard had a heart attack due to excessive 'exercise' and died- also not something extremely unusual since Klein doubted the middle-aged rich men of this time had healthy enough bodies with how much they ate and drank.

Not to mention when Klein had used his pendulum, it had said that there were no extraordinary things involved in this case.

"So an accident, huh." Klein nodded to himself as he and Leonard got ready to exit the room.

As Leonard waited near the door while Klein was busy talking with the inspector and discussing how to cover up the multiple wounds on the body- he saw from the corner of his eyes a small particle glowing and slowly taking form into a small translucent Amon.

Leon bristled and looked around in concealed panic, only heaving a sigh of relief when he saw that no one else in the room or outside seemed to be able to see this Amon clone.

The tiny Amon hovered around with a smug expression as he announced,

"Madam Sharon is actually a Sequence 6 extraordinary- Demoness of Pleasure." Leonard's eyes widened as Amon continued, "She had just advanced, and in order to control her madness from her recent advancement- she murdered John Maynard. She's using extraordinary abilities to meddle with Klein's Seer abilities."

Leonard was now quickly on alert. Inside his head, even the Old Man decided to comment-

[Why are you informing us of this?]

An intelligent question indeed, Leonard thought IJ his mind before berating himself for not asking that first. Amon wasn't really the sort to freely give away stuff- even Leonard's 'training' was being paid by giving Amon ample entertainment from making a fool of Leonard while he was busy acting.

Why did Amon decide to step into this random investigation about a random Parliament member and a Demoness when before he hadn't even gotten himself involved in instances where Klein was apparently in danger?

"A good question~" Another Amon giggled, the small fruit fly landing on Leonard's nose smugly.

"You see," another Amon started, did they really have to finish each other sentences like this? Leonard's head ached. "the wedding between the main body and our lovely Klein is in a few days. We would hate it if our plans got ruined by a Demoness."

"T-that's it?" Leonard was baffled.

Another Amon added, "Certainly you can understand our plight at the idea of your marriage being disturbed by a Witch?"

"I wouldn't wish that even on me and my father's worst enemies." The first Amon nodded.

"That's because they would have to deal with me ruining their marriage and not a poor Demoness~" the fly giggled evilly.

Leonard sighed, "You guys go banter and chat by yourself- you already make my head hurt while being quiet please do not give my brain a chance to spontaneously combust and explode." He said in a hushed voice.

"Boo! Boring!" The Amon clones said collectively but disappeared nonetheless- seemingly in a good mood.

Now that his surroundings had gone quiet again, Leonard allowed himself a moment to think things over properly, 'So the lady is a Demoness... and also the murderer of that man.'

Although Leonard wasn't that eager to catch and imprison each and every single illegal Beyonder- after all, not all of them were evil people- but this particular woman was definitely dangerous. She had already killed an innocent man not to mention the things she (or god forbid 'he'!) must have done to advance as well as act to digest her potions must have been horrendous as well.

"Leonard? Ready to go?" Klein asked casually as he approached the new Captain, having concluded his quick chat with the inspector assigned to this case.

"Yes, let's take the carriage back."

Klein nodded as the two exited the mansion.

When the two had boarded the carriage and were making their way back to the Company- Leonard finally spoke,

"Klein, is there any way that your mysticism could have been interfered with?"

"Hm?" Klein considered the question, "Yes, there is a chance... there always is a chance when you try to divine greater beings. But this truly doesn't seem like a Beyonder case." He had even used the power of the great fog a little from his ring while divining. "Why? Do you have some other suspicions?"

Leonard shook his head, "Nothing concrete/m- just call it a gut feeling." He smiled at Klein's disgusted expression, his junior really needed to learn to respect his seniors- but it was kind of cute so Leonard would let it slide-

Leonard felt a smack on his cheek.

"Leonard-?!" Klein's eyes widened at Leonard's sudden jerky movement.

"N-nothing... just still a little hungover it seems like." Leonard said awkwardly as he tried to ignore the jealous Amon's screaming at his ear again.

'I'm not gonna steal your husband can you all please calm down and stop being so jealous all the time?!'

"O...Kay...?"

Poor Klein had no idea just what sort of person he had just blinded himself to. For life. Leonard lamented.

Back at the Company, Klein was stacking up the paperwork in Leonard's office while the Captain in question was busy napping (Leonard had said that it was him testing out his powers as a 'Nightmare' and not actually ditching his work all on Klein, when Klein had glared at him once).

But as he did his work, he couldn't help but repeat the words Leonard had said to him on the carriage.

That Klein's divination could have been interfered with...

Leonard had much more experience in this Beyonder business than Klein had so it was also kind of stupid to ignore his concerns. Although they had already submitted the paperwork about the case as well as Madam Sharon's statement and had officially filed it as an accident- Klein still had his worries.

He knew for a fact that if he does nothing then this thought would trouble him indefinitely.

Klein sighed as he sat down on his chair, slowly pulling out his mysticism ingredients one by one. Even if there wasn't anything odd in this case, at least he'd be able to rest his curiosity if he investigated further.

Not to mention that he was almost itching to practice more of his now advanced and more powerful Seer abilities now that he had advanced to Sequence 8 Clown- although yes he used stuff like pendulum divination and mediumship a lot during his investigations with Leonard, he never really had the chance to test how much his abilities from being the ruler of the grey fog had changed. Not to mention that all his attempts at being humourous and sarcastic hadn't really done much for the digestion of his Clown potion, he was really open to any sort of enlightenment no matter how odd it may be. Maybe testing the limits of his newfound increased Seer powers was the way? God knows.

Klein gave one last glance towards Leonard's snoring figure and only after making sure that the man had no possibility of waking up from his 'training' any time soon, Klein took in a deep breath and slowly murmured under his breath his own name as The Fool. He wanted to test if he could summon himself as a spirit or something like that.

Amon, the main body, was absentmindedly tapping away on the desk with his hands as he stared at the letter in front of him- a singular wedding invitation he had written with his own hands and not with the help of his clones. The place where the recipient of the letter must be named was currently blank.

After much consideration, Amon made up his mind and picked up the quill, dipped it in ink, and placed the pen directly over the place where the recipient's name must be written-

Slowly he spelled the name of his older brother/father.

'The Angel of Imagination, Adam.'

Almost as soon as he had finished writing the name- he felt eyes on him. If it had been someone other than Amon, they would have felt scared or uncomfortable, but Amon was long used to having the eyes and attention of his brother/father over him and it only made him relax rather than tense up.

No matter half soul or not, no matter the fact that He was still lying to Amon about almost everything basically- he was still his father/brother, the one who had proved to Amon that he would still love him as his son even after losing his humanity after reaching above the Sequence.

"Brother, it's been a while." Amon smirked as he put down his quill. Adam right now was a Sequence 1 Author- just mentioning, thinking, or writing about him would make him alert of your presence, hence why Amon had summoned him by writing his name over the letter.

After a few seconds, Amon felt another presence behind him- Adam.

"Amon." The ethereal figure said slowly as he looked at his younger brother with an unreadable expression- he couldn't look into Amon's mind even a little bit.

Amon smiled and handed his brother the letter he had spent the last half an hour writing and deciding if it was worth it or not.

Adam looked at the piece of paper, "I've already read the contents." He said then once again looked at Amon- this time directly into his eyes.

Amon felt his mind being touched and strengthened his walls up even more in retaliation- it was much too early to allow Adam to look into his mind. Yes, he would need his brother's help in holding down the madness Amon had gained from eating that Sequence 0 characteristic from his unnamed friend- but he was still stable enough for now and his trust in Adam wasn't strong enough currently to reveal these secrets to him.

"Accepting a letter by hand is a human gesture even if you know the contents, is it not?" Amon smiled playfully as he waved the letter in front of his brother's face.

If all the previous things hadn't made Adam confused enough yet, Amon's words about 'humanity' now certainly had.

Adam accepted the letter and flipped it open.

"I drew lots of hearts and doodles all over! Cute, aren't they?" Amon hopped over to Adam's side, resting his chin on his brother's shoulder as he peeked into his letter. He pointed at the small drawing of two people who were holding hands, "The one with the monocle of course is me, the one with the cute top hat is Klein!" He announced happily over the two stick figures.

On receiving no response, Amon sighed dramatically, "Your cute little brother is getting married, the least you can do is act happy and give him your blessings!" He 'humph-ed' like a spoiled child.

"Amon..." Adam started slowly.

"Hm?" Amon smiled knowingly.

"What is this?"

"A wedding invitation! I didn't know that just a couple of centuries without my company had made you this dull, brother!" Amon said in a teasing voice as he poked at Adam's cheek.

Adam looked at Amon again- really looked at him as if trying to peer through his soul. Not that that would do anything, Amon's Beyonder characteristics were currently much much higher than that of Adam's (with the Sequence 0 characteristics in him and all), there was no way Adam would be able to properly look into his mind unless he decided to dream his stolen sequence 1 and 0 characteristics and temporarily become the God Almighty for it- but in his current state with his soul being split into parts an all with the Creator and all that stuff would make that incredibly difficult and dangerous, and Amon trusted his father/brother enough to give him some privacy and deciding not to do that.

"What, too taken aback to say something?" Amon said, draping himself over Adam's larger frame- it had been a while since he had seen his father/brother, he would make use of this situation as best as he could- after all, shame wasn't something Amon knew.

As expected, Adam placed a hand over Amon's hair as a semi-pat to indulge Amon's clinginess before speaking, "…How is he?"

"You mean Klein? He's the best!" Amon wasn't really surprised that Adam didn't ask any more questions of 'why' or 'what the absolute fuck', it wouldn't be Adam if he were not used to Amon's antics and his random bullshit not to mention that his father and brother always spoiled him very much- no matter what Amon decided to do they would let him. Even if the next day Amon decided to level over an entire city for funsies, he knew the most Adam would do was probably tell him how it was and ignore whatever he just did- that was how much Amon was loved and cherished! And rightfully so!

"He's currently a Sequence 8 Clown working as a Nighthawk for Tingen," Amon informed, observing the way Adam's brows rose at that information.

"Amanisis?" Adam hummed.

"Don't worry so much, I have not allowed him to speak her name so he's free from her sight," Amon reassured as he released Adam and sat down on his bed- his and Klein's bed.

Crossing one leg over the other, Amon rested his chin on his right hand as he continued, "The wedding is in a few days, you coming?"

Adam looked around the room and didn't answer, instead, he asked something else, "Does it have something to do with 'it'."

Amon pouted when his question was ignored but quickly answered, "That 'thing' is nothing but a joke- 'it' is not my sibling. I'm not here because of 'that'." He spat, the distaste in his words not at all hidden.

At Amon's show of such genuine emotions, Adam couldn't help but stare more at his 'younger brother'. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't look into Amon's mind.

"Did you get the other Sequence 1 characteristic?" Adam asked, after all- Amon radiated much more power right now not to mention his ability to block another King of Angel's abilities- there must have been some way he had gotten that much power.

"Nope." Amon smiled, there wasn't much to gain by telling Adam about Pallez and Leonard- it would only make Adam more curious and could ruin Amon's plans, a very high risk. "Are you going to answer or not? Will you come to me and Klein's wedding?" Amon huffed before adding quickly, "He's not parasitized if you're wondering."

"I will."

Amon's smile widened as he stood up again to hug Adam, "You're not allowed to look into his mind by the way." Well, his clones would try to protect Klein's mind as much as they could so there wasn't really that much of a risk. The grey fog was also not something Adam would be able to see around Klein, especially when he was in such a low Sequence right now and hadn't even been able to unlock a fraction of the Fog's powers.

"Alright." His brother, ever the conversationalist, replied.

Amon was getting ready for Adam to disappear any second now when Adam said, "You don't usually call me 'brother'." And with that, Adam disappeared.

"…" Ah, he made a mistake- whatever.

With a wave of his hands, Amon allowed his clones to come in.

"I'm going to sleep now," Amon announced as he laid down on his bed with a sigh, his head aching like anything from using too much of the 'other' beyonder characteristics' powers to keep Adam out of his head.

He had at most… 1 year till he would go completely insane. That is if he completely didn't use his other characteristics which was the best possible scenario… although he had Adam to help him he would feel much more comfortable if it was his actual complete father who tended to him- both better for him to trust as well as for his condition.

But that was a year away, he would find a way to revive his father properly later- right now he had a wedding to plan and enjoy!
