*RHYSAND*
It would give me great pleasure to do just that, plunged the stake deep into his heart and throw him into the bottom of ocean but then I wasn't that irrational, especially knowing that his death would only create problems and problem was something I couldn't afford right now although I already got one on my plate.
"You know, Cardan had saved the girl's life in exchange she became his prey,"Raelys announced, taking the seat opposite me. "Although she didn't tell me the entire story because she's still wary of me."
Only hearing that my mate was going to become his prey was enough to make my blood boil in pure fury. I couldn't stand the thought of my mate owing that sucker, at the same time, I also blamed myself. Perhaps if I had searched for her before, this wouldn't have happened. she wouldn't have fallen into Cardan's hands but then again i've never imagined that a human would turn out to be my mate, it was still shocking, nevertheless, she's still my mate, someone I shared a sacred bond with, human or not.
"You know Cardan, isn't going to let you have her right, so what do you intend to do?" Raelys curiously stare at me with her golden orbs that was exactly like Cardan's, she was a vampire too, but I'd say unlike Cardan, my little sister was the most cool headed and laid back vampire I had ever seen, besides Davian.
"I know that," I muttered, gently placing the wooden stake on the desk so that Raelys had my full attention. As for what I intend to do, all I know is that I would keep her safe, although I didn't know how to go about it without causing a war. Cardan was a stubborn blood sucking creature, he wouldn't hand over my mate, knowing fully well he could use her against me.
"Maybe you should negotiate with him, give him something he wouldn't be able to refuse," suggested Raelys, but then that was the problem. I had also thought of the same thing, but there wasn't anything Cardan wanted that he didn't already have, unless his mate_ which he wasn't keen on finding. However, I also wasn't keen on finding my mate but now I found her there was this strong, maddening desire, I wanted her with every fibre of my being.
"Rae, I'll figure something out," I heaved a sigh, closing my eyes for a few seconds. "Is she doing okay? I don't even know her name."
I said my thoughts out loud.
"Her name is Leilani and yes she's doing okay, but I think she's quite shaken after withnessing you and Cardan go berserk, with time though she'll be able to fully digest it."
I nodded, then I went on to repeat her name over and over again in my head. She was beautiful just like her name, no, she was perfect in every sense, my mate I mean. I couldn't help but recall how her captivating baby blue eyes had stared into mine with curiousity and how her sweet scent wafted into my nose, intoxicating me. It was only a few minutes yet I was already addicted, obsessed, it was a miracle how I managed to suppress my self till this point even when all I wanted to do was go to her, to have her with me, to mark her and let her know who she belonged to, she belongs to me only_ she's mine.
*When Rhysand opened his eyes, they were no longer the usual emerald green, they had turned sliver. The air also changed, filled with murderous intent. Raelys could tell that it was her brother's wolf side that has taken control of him. it was usually hard for werewolves to be apart from their mate after setting eyes on them. It was worse in Rhysand's case because he knew his brother was in possession of her, something werewolves despised. They despised even just the idea of someone else being in possession of their mate. They were very possessive and dominant creature.
So far, Rhysand have been handling it well, however Raelys wasn't so sure how long he could continue to do so.
"Where is she?" It wasn't Rhysand who spoke but his wolf_ Fury. Although the beast spoke calmly, she could tell it was far from calm, there was a storm brewing, a mighty one.
"Uhmm... She's in Cardan's quarters," Raelys was hesitant, knowing Fury and Rhysand wouldn't like the answer and she was right, because a violent growl tore out of Fury, resounding through the entire office and probably through the entire hallway and following that, the man and beast blotted out of the office.
"Shit," Raelys cursed under her breath, immediately going after him.*
*LEILANI*
Laying on the queen size bed, I kept tossing and turning, trying to force myself to sleep, perhaps I'd rid myself of this ill dilemma even just for a few seconds or minutes, yet sleep refuse to come no matter how hard I tried. Instead the images of that vampire_ Cardan trying to devour me and also images of my dead family kept resurfacing whenever I closed my eyes.
"Lani, I'm going to be by myself if you go to college, take me with you, I want to come with you," Brandon tugged at my suitcase, stopping me from leaving the house.
"Brandon, you still have mother and father, they're here with you, besides I'm not leaving forever, I'll be back by the end of the semester."
"No Lani, what if I never see you again? please take me with you."
"What's makes you say that Bran? Of course you'll see me again, we're family afterall. I'm just going to college... okay, how about this, I'll fulfill all your wishes when I come back."
Brandon look reluctantly at me as though not satisfied with my reply. He pouted his small mouth turning to our parents direction as though he wanted them to intervene, to stop me from leaving.
"Bran, your sister isn't going away forever, she'll be back at the end of the semester, you two can spend all the time together then," my mother came to my little brother's side, gently pulling him away so that I could leave and I heard Bran, heaved a sigh before slowly letting go of my suitcase.
"Alright, I'll let you go sis. Have a safe trip, I'll always be here awaiting your return."
My face contoured into a bright smile, then I gave him quick hug and a peck on the forehead before leaving the house after a last glance.
****
I was pulled back to the present when my eyes snapped open after just a few minutes of shutting them. "You were right Bran, you were right."
My mother always said that kids have the strongest intuition, Brandon had been reluctant to let me go that day, if only I had listened to him, now he's gone, he'd never see me again just like he's feared, my parents too.
While my mind wandered in the direction of the past, I felt tears pricked the corner of my eyes, it was still hard to believe that in a short span of time, I had lost everything. My family were gone and I didn't know the reason why.
As I wiped the tears that trickle down my cheeks, the door suddenly swung open, making my heart leap out in both fear and excitement when I saw the person who stood at the doorway...
