Chapter 17 - Chapter Seventeen

Soren held Cyrus's hand as he stared at him with concern in his eyes. Cyrus is still awake. He is not fainting like the other who had fainted after a few minutes of pain. But Cyrus is still awake, grunting in pain. Though no sounds escape his mouth.

"It's all going to be alright." Soren gently squeezed Cyrus's hand gently. He said again, "you are going to be fine, Sunshine."

Cyrus could only look at Soren with those beautiful mismatched eyes. He wants to tell him to get away from him. He doesn't want Soren to be infected by him as well. His chest feels like someone has set him up on fire and he is burning from the sensation. He opened his mouth to say something but it only came out as painful groans.

The door opened and Elias walked in. His silver hair flowed behind him. His eyes landed on Soren as he approached them.

"Soren?" He called.

Soren turned to him and put Cyrus's hand back on the bed gently. He stood up. "Yes." He answered.

Elias sighed, "you have told me that after feeling a severe pain in the chest the affected person faints, correct?"

"Yes, correct."

"Then I have a few clues why Cyrus is still awake." Elias sighed, his eyes glancing at Cyrus.

"What are they?"

"First of all." Elias started and looked back at Soren, "Cyrus is a duel fire and nature wielder. Second, as I have mentioned before, nature wielders are immune since most medicinal herbs are found in nature; that's why it prevents this curse from taking a toll on their body." He looked back at Cyrus again, "but since then, that boy also has fire along with nature. It's probably because of his fire wielding side and the nature side is preventing him from fainting."

Soren's eyes widened, "So that's how it is…"

"Yes," Elias pulls out a small glass bottle with a type of clear liquid inside of it, "this is a pain medication, if you feed it to him some of his pain might get relieved." He handed it to Soren, "but the side effects are. He could get drunk from it."

Soren looked at the medication in his hands and looked back at Elias. Cyrus might get drunk from having it. But it's better to have him drunk than in pain.

"Alright," Soren sighed, "thank you."

Elias nodded, "one drop is enough, alright?"

"Alright."

With that Elias leaves the room. Leaving Soren and Cyrus alone for some time now. Soren returned to Cyrus's side.

"Hey," Soren gently runs his fingers through Cyrus's hair, "take this."

Soren gently put the glass bottle up to Cyrus's lips. Cyrus just looks at Soren. Soren could see the pain in those green-red eyes. Cyrus's lips parted slightly as he took in one drop. Soren softly smiled at Cyrus.

"Now try to sleep." Soren said, his eyes never leaving Cyrus.

The usual stubborn Cyrus closed his eyes. Trying to sleep off the pain. Soon enough, his breathing got shallower as he was lulled to sleep.

Soren finally let a tear escape his eye. He wiped the escaped tear off and pressed a soft kiss on Cyrus's forehead as he pulled the blanket further up his body. He then blew out the hurricane lamp beside the bed. Plunging the room into total darkness.

He quietly walked out of the room not disturbing Cyrus.

Marryanne noticed Soren exiting the room Cyrus is in and she walks towards Soren, "How is big bro?" She asked, looking at Soren.

Soren smiled at the innocent question of the little girl in front of him, "He is going to be alright."

Soren noticed the girl's concerned eyes. He sighs, "Elias said there's gonna be a festival in the village." He smiled, "Why don't you and the twins go and have fun at the festival."

Marryanne looks away, "but what about big bro, Cyrus?" She asked, green gaze boring into Soren's blue eyes.

"I will stay here with Cyrus." Soren assured, "so you can go and enjoy the festival."

"The twins are asleep and I don't want to go alone."

"In that case," Soren sighed as he sat down. Marryanne followed and sat down beside him, "You wanna hear a story about how Cyrus once got lost in a corner maze?" Soren giggled a little remembering the memory.

Marryanne tipped her head to the side, "corn maze?" She looked at Soren with a questioning gaze.

"Yeah," Soren nodded, "once, a big sister took me and Cyrus to run some errands. She took us to the merchant's house because she had to deliver something to the merchant."

Marryanne nodded, interested in the story.

"Beside the merchant's house there was a huge corn maze. Me and Cyrus thought that we could get out in time. So we went in and Cyrus being Cyrus started arguing with me. Then he separated from me. I found the way out and…"

Marryanne guessed, "and big bro, Cyrus got deeper into the maze?" She giggled a little.

Soren nodded, "when I came out. I took some bread." Soren sighed, "I had to take ten breads to be exact. And I left behind a trail of bread crumbs along the way."

"Why?"

"So we could follow the bread crumbs back out. Then I found Cyrus sobbing with his knees up to his chest. I blew in his ear and he jumped up. Then we began leaving and going out of the maze." Soren sighed, "we did get scolded by that sister though."

Marryanne giggled and imagined little Soren and Cyrus getting scolded.

"And that's it." Soren sighed, "it's late, why don't you go to sleep."

Marryanne yawned, "okay," she nodded and agreed, "I will go now." She then left.

Soren watched her retreating figure and sighed. He stood up and quietly went to the room Cyrus is in. He walked up to Cyrus's bed and sat next to it. Even though the room was dark, Soren could see where he was. He took Cyrus's hand again and softly squeezed it. He doesn't want to wane him up. He gently kissed him on the forehead.

Cyrus will be alright. There's nothing to be worried about…
