Chapter 179 - CHAPTER -179

Ryan did not even realize when the coffee in his hand had gone cold. It rested between his fingers, untouched, as his eyes remained fixed on the laptop screen. The pale light from the display reflected in his eyes, making them look sharper, more awake than his exhausted body should allow. He replayed the same footage again, his fingers tapping impatiently against the keyboard as if forcing the truth to reveal itself through repetition.

On the screen, the taxi stopped. The woman stepped out. She adjusted her bag. She walked toward the terminal.

Ryan leaned back slowly, dragging a hand through his hair as if trying to pull his thoughts into order.

"She got into the plane," he said quietly, his voice calm but firm.

Alina looked up immediately, confusion flashing across her face. "What do you mean?"

Ryan didn't answer right away. He rotated the laptop toward both of them and paused the frame at the exact moment the woman turned slightly toward the camera.

"That woman," he said, pointing at the screen, "was the one who got into the plane pretending to be Maya."

Alina leaned closer, studying the face carefully. From a distance, the resemblance could fool anyone, but the closer she looked, the clearer the difference became.

"That's not her," she murmured.

Ryan nodded once. "Exactly."

Kai, who had been silently stirring his coffee, finally spoke without looking at the screen. "This makes things clearer."

Alina turned toward him. "How?"

Kai leaned back slightly, his expression thoughtful, his voice steady. "Someone wants us to believe that Maya willingly got into a taxi, went to the airport, and flew."

Ryan nodded slowly. "That's the story they're trying to sell."

Alina frowned, her mind racing faster now. "Where did she go?" she asked.

Ryan didn't hesitate this time. "Tanzania."

Both Kai and Alina looked at him. "Why?" Alina asked.

Ryan closed the laptop halfway and leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees as he explained. "Because of the Icon Mountains," he said. "Trekking routes. Adventure tourism. Maya loves trekking. No one would question it if she suddenly decided to go there."

Alina's brows furrowed deeper. "But what about the printed air ticket? The one we found in her room?"

Ryan tapped the laptop lightly. "That ticket was real. It belonged to Maya. The booking ID, payment method, confirmation email—everything matches her account."

Kai looked at him, his gaze sharp. "You're sure?"

Ryan nodded without hesitation. "Completely sure."

Alina leaned back slowly, confusion mixing with realization. "Then why would someone send another woman using her identity?"

Ryan exhaled slowly, thinking carefully before answering. "Maybe Maya left that ticket deliberately," he said.

Kai's eyes narrowed slightly. "A trace."

Ryan nodded. "A breadcrumb."

Alina looked between both of them. "You think she did that on purpose?"

Ryan shrugged slightly. "It's possible. Maybe she wanted us to find it."

Kai remained silent for a moment, processing everything before speaking again. "But we still don't know where Maya is."

Alina nodded immediately. "Exactly. We're assuming too much without proof. We need to figure that out first."

Kai turned toward Ryan. "Did you check the last location of her phone before it switched off?"

Ryan opened another tab and pulled up the data. He rotated the screen toward them.

"Yes," he said Alina leaned forward to see it clearly.

"It was her house," Ryan continued.

Alina blinked. "Her house?"

Ryan nodded. "The signal died there."

Kai leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table, his voice calm but heavy with implication. "When we checked her house, there was no sign of struggle."

Alina nodded slowly as the memory replayed in her mind. "Everything was normal. Nothing broken. Nothing out of place."

Kai continued, his tone steady. "Which means the person who came didn't force their way in."

Alina finished the thought softly. "She opened the door herself."

Ryan nodded once, his jaw tightening slightly. "Someone she knows."

The weight of that realization settled over all three of them. Alina's fingers tightened slightly around her cup. "But if that's true… why is there no CCTV footage of her leaving the house?"

Ryan didn't speak. Instead, he played the clip again. The taxi. The door. The woman stepping out. But not Maya. Ryan paused the video again and looked at them.

"There's no footage of Maya leaving," he said. "Only this girl."

Alina's voice dropped. "So the real Maya never left the house on camera."

Ryan nodded. "Exactly."

Silence filled the room as everything began to connect. Alina spoke again after a moment, her voice slower now, more careful

"Why would someone go through all this trouble just to make it look like Maya flew somewhere?"

Ryan leaned back, his gaze drifting briefly before focusing again. "Because they wanted the story to look normal."

Alina looked down, thinking. "So whoever took her didn't plan this suddenly."

Ryan nodded. "They prepared everything in advance."

"A fake passenger," Alina said.

"A real ticket," Ryan added.

"A believable destination," Kai finished.

Kai's voice turned colder. "They wanted us to believe she left on her own."

Alina looked at him. "But why?"

Kai didn't answer immediately. He sat there for a long moment, thinking deeply before finally speaking. "Because if we believe she left willingly…" he said slowly, "…we stop looking for who took her."

The room fell silent again. At that small table, theories formed and collapsed rapidly as they connected one detail after another. Ryan's fingers slowly closed over the laptop lid, but he didn't shut it completely this time because something else had surfaced in his mind. Something that didn't fit. His eyes lifted again.

"One more thing," he said quietly.

Kai and Alina both looked at him. Ryan's voice dropped slightly, sharper now. "They didn't just send her anywhere randomly."

Alina frowned. "What do you mean?"

Ryan tapped the screen again where the destination was visible "Tanzania," he repeated. "Icon Mountains. Trekking routes."

Kai's gaze sharpened. "You think it means something more?"

Ryan nodded slowly. "Maya loves trekking, yes. But that's exactly why they chose it. It's believable."

Alina tilted her head slightly. "So it's just a cover?"

Ryan shook his head. "Not just a cover," he said. "It's a misdirection."

Kai leaned back slightly. "Explain."

Ryan's eyes darkened just a little. "If you want to hide the truth," he said, "you don't create something random. You create something that fits the person perfectly so no one questions it"

Alina whispered, "So Tanzania is a distraction."

Ryan nodded. "Exactly."

Kai added quietly, "Which means the real location is somewhere else."

Ryan didn't respond immediately. Because now, everything finally aligned in his mind. The house. The missing footage. The fake passenger. The perfect story. "They didn't remove her from the story," Ryan said slowly.

Alina looked at him. "They replaced her," he finished.

Silence fell again, heavier this time. Because now it wasn't just a disappearance. It was something planned. Something controlled. Something precise.

Kai broke the silence. "So what's our next move?"

Ryan didn't hesitate. "We stop following what they want us to see," he said.

Alina leaned forward. "And instead?"

Ryan finally closed the laptop completely, the soft click echoing in the quiet room. "We follow what they tried to hide."

Kai's eyes narrowed slightly. "Which is?"

Ryan looked at both of them, his voice calm but carrying certainty now. "The fact that she never left that house."

Alina inhaled slowly. Ryan added one last thing, quieter, but far more dangerous. "And the fact that whoever took her needed her alive."

Kai's gaze sharpened. "How do you know that?"

Ryan held his gaze. "Because if they didn't…" he said, "…they wouldn't have built such a perfect lie to make the world believe she was still out there."

That truth settled between them like something final. Not comforting. Not easy. But clear. Somewhere in all of this— Maya was still alive. And now they weren't just looking for her. They were hunting the people who made her disappear.
