Chapter 7 - Magic math

Before I knew it, my pockets had some strange coins of bronze, silver, and gold in them.

"So these gold ones," Hermione was explaining as we walked back to the shining steps in front of Gringotts, "Are Galleons. The silver are Sickles, and the bronze are Knuts."

As she spoke she pointed to the three coins in the center of her palm, an informational tone filled her voice- something that seemed like second nature to her.

"There's seventeen Sickles in a Galleon," she continued, "And twenty nine Knuts in a Sickle... which makes 493 Knuts in a Galleon."

There's math I could never do on the spot...

"We're back!" someone called from behind us.

The red haired family, the Weasleys as Hermione had told me while we were exchanging money in Gringotts, and Harry were walking down the steps to meet us.

Hermione, saying a quick goodbye to me and her parents, set off with Harry and one of the Weasleys named Ron. The other Weasley brothers set off in their own directions, one saying he was off to shop and the others claiming to have seen a friend. That left just me, my dad, Hermione's parents, and the rest of the Weasleys.

"Would you all like to have a drink at the Leaky Cauldron?" Mr. Weasley asked, looking at the Grangers and my dad.

He looked extremely excited and was smiling from ear to ear. "I would love to learn some things about the Muggle world!"

My dad glanced at me, and I knew he was going to ask me if I'd be okay without him. I rolled my eyes then smirked back at him.

"You can go," I said sarcastically, "Since you need my permission."

He smiled at my comment, but then looked more serious. "A, you sure? I mean it's not like you know how to get around here."

I opened my mouth to say I'd be perfectly fine but Mrs. Weasley beat me to it.

"She can come with Ginny and I." she said while smiling, "It's her first year too, so they'll be getting all the same things."

"That'd be great if it's not any trouble." my dad replied, looking gratefully at her.

Mrs. Weasley assured him it was perfectly fine, and beckoned me over with a warm smile.

With that we separated, Mr. Weasley leading my dad and the Grangers to the Leaky Cauldron, and Mrs. Weasley leading Ginny and I to a robe shop for our Hogwarts uniforms.
