Chapter 4 - The Dream

Waking up in the middle of the night I saw the dark moon shining down on me, almost as if someone from above was trying to grab me and embrace my inner monster. Despite the darkness all around me, the moon still blasted through my window protecting me from the ignorance of the abyss. While staring at the moon I heard a soft tender moan behind me.

Darting my head backwards I noticed a young but older beautiful woman laying down on my bed. Her naked body was barely covered by my bed sheet with one of her legs laying out. Silently treading towards the woman; I felt my body slowly become weaker and weaker. When me and the woman were faced to one another I began to feel sick. Attempting to touch her face I saw my hands had shrunk down to the size of a kid.

Looking around I saw my room was different. Compared to my typical bland room, it turned into a little child's room, looking back at my bed I noticed the woman was still there but this time one of her eyes was open hiding behind the long brown strands of hair. Her eyes were red like she had been staring at the sun for too long.

She soon stood up and began to approach me. Her body was covered by a blanket with one hand while the other was free. When she got close enough to me, I realized how much she towered over me. I could do nothing, say nothing except whimper on the inside. Mouth to ear I heard one thing.

"I love you. I'll never let you go. Even if I die."

And then I woke up.

The sun gazed down on me shaming me for my dreams. Getting up lazily I shut my curtains and reembraced the darkness that I was familiar with. Leaving my room, I began to groggily walk down the stairs. Stumbling and tumbling down the stairs I could feel my body start to wake up slowly.

In the kitchen I saw my family sitting down eating breakfast. All the seats were taken and the only seat available was the one across from my father. Pulling the wooden reflective chair out from the table I heard a loud creak that shook the room. Just as I sat down my stepmother brought me a plate of the heavenly breakfast that she made. Looking at my plate I saw the two fried eggs next to one another like eyes and the smoked pieces of bacon packed together that formed a smile. Looking to my right I saw my sister's plate; it was hastily made and poorly cooked. When I looked at my father's plate, I saw bits of extremely burnt bacon pieces. My food was made with love unlike theirs.

Turning to my left I saw Ariana looking at me with a sunshine-like smile. Her smile was nice, almost as nice as my plate of food. Looking back at my food I was able to figure out what she was trying to do. She's trying to baby me. Her poor treatment of my father and her hatred against my sister helped prove she is trying build a connection with me.

She doesn't attempt to build a connection with anyone except me. Eating my breakfast, I tore through the once happy face grabbing the eyes and ripping them apart almost joyfully. I ate the mouth like a cannibal who was feasting on his last dish. All that remained of the face was small bits of the beautiful eyes and a piece of the mouth. As I got up to throw away the remains of the breakfast Ariana jumped before me and took my plate away with a giant smile across her face.

After finishing my food, I felt my body become very groggy. Deciding not to be suffocated by this house's tightness I grabbed my black sweater that was hung on a coat rack and made my way out of the house. But before I could leave, I heard a soft spoken speak up. Looking over my shoulder I saw Ariana standing in the doorway that led to the kitchen.

"Trevor going somewhere?"

"Yeah... I'm just going for a walk. I'll be back later."

"Oh, ok have a nice walk."

Ignoring what she said I opened the door of freedom and began walking towards the bus station. Observing my surroundings I noticed how little people there were. My slow heavy steps had shaken through the streets, every step I walked I could hear a loud click from my shoes. Eventually I made my way to the bus station and sat down on the bench waiting for the bus to arrive.

While resting on the bench I heard a loud pair of deep steps walking. I didn't pay much attention to the hollow steps until they were close enough that my head was spinning from the clicking. Every click from the shoe had become louder and louder until the clicking had eventually filled my ears. I slightly peeked my head up and saw a pair of black dress shoes walking by me. Tracking the shoes I saw that they had sat next to me. Not wanting to look weird I kept my head down and continued to wait for the bus to arrive. However, something about the person sitting next to me intrigued me. When making my way to the bus stop, I only encountered a few people, but those people were in a group with what I perceived to be their friends.

However, this person was alone instead of following what the police told everyone, they decided to walk alone. Trying to get a better look at the person I leaned up and yawned, so as to not look suspicious. After yawning, I sat at a 90-degree angle that gave me a perfect view of the person. The person sitting next to me was a man who was wearing a long black trench coat. He had medium black hair that was slicked back and brown eyes that hid something. His hands were rough and rigid, his face was firm and smooth, and his posture was perfect. I tried to create an image of what this guy was like in my head but the best I could come up with was that he was a tough guy who wasn't afraid of anything. Eventually, after 5 seconds of looking at the man I put my head back down and destroyed my 90-degree posture. After what felt like Hours, I heard a loud hauling truck stop by.

When I looked up, I noticed that the bus I needed to take arrived. Getting up I began to walk towards the bus when I heard a nauseating sound behind me. The clicking. It was back and it was even louder. I didn't look anywhere but forwards, but I knew the man from the bench was walking along next to me. I tried my best to not look at him, but my curiosity was consuming me.

Just as I was about to enter the bus, I felt a large and heavy shoulder push me to the side. When I looked to see who pushed past me, I saw the same man from before, rushing to get inside the bus. His long black trench coat swung side to side like a tube man at a car dealership. He didn't look back at me once, like I didn't exist. I began to question who the man was. However, I would soon get my answer.

Standing behind the man I spotted, a shiny large object in the waistband of the man. I couldn't get a good look, but I could tell the object was circular in shape. I got a smudge closer to the man so I could get a better look but the closer I had gotten the harder it was for me to see exactly what it was. Eventually his coat flew over the object, and it was out of my peripheral vision.

My chance to see what the object was, was now gone but something happened that froze me. While paying the bus fee a colossal amount of wind flew into the bus and shook the entire bus, turning over to see the man I spotted the shiny object from before.

A small but large authority clung onto his waist it was gold like the sand of a beach and hideous like a heaping pile of trash. There was a star in the middle that radiated like the sun. That's when I found out what it was.

A police Badge.

Time froze, everything around me stopped. Darkness surrounded me, the only source of light was the badge which looked down on me. My body couldn't move as my eyes were glued to the badge. I could hear nothing, say nothing or see nothing except that disgusting badge.

I then realized what needed to be done. This was the only thing I had to do.

Kill this man in front of me.

The grey world around me had suddenly gained color. For the first time in my life, I could see things clearly, my objectives were clear, my life was clear. If I wanted to have any way to worm my way into the police investigation, I had to find a way to attach myself to the man or someone close to the investigation.

After I finished paying the bus fee, I sat at the back of the bus keeping one eye on the detective. My long linear index finger struck my left leg like my heart striking my sternum with a bursting need to come out.

Stop after stop I watched as the man ran through the newspaper consuming the false knowledge they tried to push out to the public. After what felt like years of my life drying up, I finally arrived at my destination. Getting up from the blue plastic seat I saw the man also stand up. When the bus came to a halting stop, we both made our way out of the dirty metal tin bus that looked as if it could barely support itself anymore.

When my foot stepped out of the rusted tin machine, I gave a quick glance at the man who was heading in the opposite direction of where I was going. However, before I left, I made a mental note of the man's appearance one more time before eventually leaving.

As I continued walking towards my destination, I could see the clouds of darkness begin to die away. The vast sunlight covered the sky, leaving nothing but shining rays of hope that gleaned down on me. My body sluggishly migrated through the burning concrete of heat.

After walking for a couple of minutes I came face to face with two large egg-white doors. I slid my bulging veiny arm in my right pocket and pulled out a small piece of scrap paper. Written on it was "Apt 33, make sure to check in with the lobby."

After putting the piece of paper away I opened the cosmic size doors and sauntered my way into the building. Looking around I saw 3 people, 2 males and 1 female. Darting my eyes to the left I saw a lobby man sitting in his chair half-awake. As I walked up to him his small groggy eyes peered open, and his crooked posture began to reform itself.

"Hello." The man said in a dead tone voice. Not wanting to stick around any longer I quickly responded the same as the man did.

"I need to check in."

The man looked at me for a while before pulling a clipboard out from his desk drawer. On the clipboard resided a paper littered with names of hundreds of people. Besides their names were a row of dates and times. The names and dates all corresponded with one another showing who was here and at what time they came and left.

With pen in hand, I smoothly wrote down a name, not my name but a name. I flicked my wrist towards my face and looked at the time. Copying the time from my watch I handed the clipboard back to the lobby man and was given the go ahead to go up.

While waiting for the elevator's descent I spotted in the corner of my eye a glimmer of a round black object in the corner of the lobby. I figured it was a camera and paid no attention to it.

Hearing the ding of approval from the elevator I slowly marched into the wide polished metal box with a simple goal in mind. Ascending towards the new world I couldn't help but think about what I saw earlier today. The detective... I need to find a way to get close to him, but the problem is how I'll do that. While contemplating these thoughts in my head I heard a loud defeating ring.

I slowly walked out of the elevator swinging my head from side to side looking at the apartment numbers. My heavy footsteps resonated around the hallways; my palms were drenched like a desert in the summer and my skin was as perfect as a GQ model.

Arriving at apartment 33 I quietly and quickly knocked on the door. A loud exhausting creak blew in my face and dust from the old dainty wooden door fell everywhere. Long black silky hair drenched my sight, a dirty brown eye peered through the obsessively straight hair, creepily and a pure white see through dress caught my attention.

When the women glanced at me her pale white face had regained color. She ran at me full of enthusiasm, wrapping her short skinny arms around my waist. I put my left arm around her curvy waist and put my right arm on her head. Petting her head like she was my pet I could hear her endearing purr. I slipped my hand onto her chin and had her look into my eyes.

Her dirty brown eyes gazed into my hollow black eyes. We soon embraced each other with our lips. Her strawberry flavored lips had mixed with my dry mellow mouth. Kissing her was like kissing a child. I couldn't tell if she was attempting to mimic being younger or if this was the best lipstick she had. Rubbing her cheek I quietly ushered in her name.

"Katherine... you are so... beautiful."

"Hehehehe."

She giggled like a schoolgirl. Everything about her was childlike from her appearance to her voice, she was almost like a kid, unable to let go of her most treasured toy. I playfully pushed her into her apartment and began to have fun with her.

2 HOURS LATER

After we were done, I began zipping up my dirty blue jeans and putting on my Polo white shirt. Looking at my marine blue Breguet watch that was held together by a silver coin band I saw that 2 hours, 15 minutes and 26 seconds had passed. "Shit." I thought, Ariana is going to be on my ass about being out late. Grabbing my black sweater from Katherine's nightstand I started to prepare for my exit before I heard her soft oceanic voice.

"Where are you going?" She spoke. With my white collar blown open I slowly turned my head to look at Katherine who was sitting up with an exhausted look on her face. If I wanted to minimize the damage from Ariana, I had to leave now because the next bus was leaving in little under 15 minutes. Walking up to Katherine I gently grasped her cheek and gave her a kiss on the forehead. "Honey I must leave but I'll contact you when we'll meet again."

"NO!" She exclaimed. My pupils dilated but only for a moment. "Honey we'll meet again... Just... I must go." I assured her. But that didn't work, it only made it worse. "NO! NO! NO!"

What the hell.
