Chapter 2 - Reincarnation (2)

"Listen carefully, boy. I know you have many questions about how you got here, or about this entire situation, but save them for later," said the woman with a serious, focused expression.

That snapped the boy out of his daydream, forcing him to pay attention.

"I am the Goddess of Creation, the one who made this entire universe. How did someone like me end up in this situation? Simple I am not the only goddess. There is also the Goddess of Destruction, my sister."

"After some disagreements, we ended up fighting. Using dirty tricks, she defeated me. Now, I need someone to fight this battle in my place. She left me with wounds that would take millions of years to heal a time I do not have." Lowering her armor slightly, it became clear that the Goddess's entire body was riddled with holes. Before she could continue, the boy interrupted.

"Wait, wait you're asking me to kill a goddess who created the universe alongside you? One you couldn't even defeat yourself? How the hell am I supposed to do that? And stop calling me 'boy.' Call me by my name," said the boy, incredulous and confused.

"That's right, bo... Haruto. And she's not the only one."

Cough cough cough

The goddess began coughing more violently, a clear sign that her time was running out.

"I would love to explain everything to you and guide you on this journey, but unfortunately, I don't have enough time. Don't worry, though I'll send you an assistant to help you. Just don't expect too much. My remaining power is already being used to sustain what's left of a collapsing universe." With those words, the goddess began to fade into a white light.

"Wait... I still have an important question to ask!" shouted Haruto, stretching his hand toward her only to black out in the next instant.

---

"Heart rate stabilized."

"The operation was a success."

As I tried to open my eyes, I felt a crushing weight, along with strange voices I could barely make out.

They were speaking a different language and if all my years watching anime were right, this was probably Japanese.

But more than that... to think I would live another day. I wondered how far I would get before my cancer finally killed me.

Before I could think any further, my eyes shut again.

---

Some time after the incident, Haruto could be seen awake in a hospital bed, staring blankly at nothing with a food tray on his lap.

I never once in my life believed in miracles... But what's happening now, there's no other word for it.

Waking up in a different hospital, with people speaking Japanese and even the unbearable pain that had always haunted me was gone.

At first, I thought everything with the Goddess had just been a dream.

But I couldn't hold on to that thought when I realized I could understand Japanese perfectly, as if it were my native tongue. That alone made it impossible to dismiss the dream.

At the beginning, I tried to deny it but life always surprises us when we least expect it.

Looking at the food in my hand, I could only think... Why does this taste worse than garbage?

In the silent room, the door suddenly began to open.

Through it stepped a beautiful nurse with a worried expression.

"Haruto, aren't you going to eat? If you keep refusing food, you'll never get better," said the nurse, her voice full of compassion.

"No, I don't feel like it," Haruto answered firmly.

"When will I be able to leave this hospital?"

"Only Dr. Kanou can discharge you. We've already had this conversation. I can't do anything to release you sooner you'll just have to wait for the next exams," said the nurse, now with a serious tone.

Haruto stayed silent, watching as the nurse collected the food and left.

When the room was empty again, Haruto sank into the bed, one hand covering his eyes as he thought about his situation.

'For fuck's sake... Out of all the universes and powers that goddess could've given me, she chose to throw me into Tokyo Ghoul and as a Ghoul, no less.'

'How am I supposed to reach the power of a goddess as a Ghoul, when they can barely destroy a city?'

[That's why I'm here.]

Hearing a voice from nowhere, Haruto's only reaction was to try jumping away only to fall to the floor instead.

*Thump

Hurried footsteps could be heard coming from the hallway, thanks to the noise.
