Chapter 4 - CELEBRATION

Due to the unexpected encounters, time has passed by and the kingdoms have awaken which means that they have to return back to the palace before the king comes knocking to Elara's chambers and finding her gone.

As the unexpected encounter lingers, Caden's practicality kicks in, and he clears his throat to break the spell. "We should get back to the palace," he says, his voice firm but gentle. "The kingdom will be stirring, and it's not wise to be out here when the king expects you in your chambers, Elara."

Lydon's gaze lingers on Elara, reluctant to break the connection they've formed. "It was...enlightening to meet you, Princess," he says, his voice low. "Perhaps our paths will cross again someday." Elara's face falls, her eyes darting to Caden, and she nods slowly. "Yes, you're right," she says, her voice soft.

With a nod, Lydon turns to Seraphina. "Let's return to our kingdom. We have much to discuss." Seraphina's eyes meet Caden's, a flicker of interest before she turns to follow Lydon.

Caden watches as the prince and his knight disappear into the darkness, then turns to Elara. "Let's get you back to the palace," he says, his voice low. Elara nods, and together they make their way back, the tension between them palpable.

As they walk, the air is thick with unspoken feelings. Caden's eyes occasionally drift to Elara, his expression subtle. He clears his throat, breaking the silence. "What do you think of Prince Lydon?" he asks, his voice low and casual.

Elara's gaze remains fixed on the path ahead, her expression neutral. "I'm just curious, nothing more," she replies, her voice soft. Her tone is nonchalant, but Caden's eyes narrow slightly, sensing there might be more to her response.

Caden nods, his eyes returning to the path ahead. "He seems charming," he says, his voice neutral.

Elara's response is brief, and she doesn't elaborate further. The conversation trails off, and they continue walking in silence, the tension between them still palpable. Caden's eyes occasionally meet Elara's, but she doesn't reveal much, her expression guarded.

Caden breaks the silence again as his expression turns serious as he glances at Elara. "We should be cautious around them, Elara," he says, his voice low and measured. "They're from a rival kingdom, and their interests aren't aligned with ours." Elara's eyes flash with a mix of emotions, and Caden's gaze lingers on hers before he adds, "You know what they're capable of. They killed your sister."

The reminder brings a surge of pain and anger to Elara's eyes. She nods slowly, her expression resolute. "You're right, Caden. I won't forget." Her voice is firm, and she quickens her pace, her determination clear. Caden keeps pace with her, his eyes watchful, ensuring she's okay. The tension between them is palpable, and Caden's words serve as a harsh reminder of the reality they face.

As they approach the secret door, Caden expertly navigates the hidden entrance, and they slip back into the palace undetected. Elara's pace quickens as she hurries to her chambers, her mind focused on the day ahead. Today marks a significant milestone – her 19th birthday, the day her powers are supposed to bloom.

With Caden's assistance, Elara swiftly changes into her royal attire, a stunning gown that befits her status. Her maid, Alice, helps her with the intricate details, ensuring every aspect of her appearance is perfect.

As Elara dresses, her thoughts are consumed by the impending ceremony. She knows the entire kingdom will be watching, expecting to witness the blooming of her powers. The pressure is palpable, and Elara's determination grows. She's ready to face this moment, to showcase her abilities and solidify her position as the future ruler.

With a final adjustment to her gown, Elara takes a deep breath, her confidence bolstered. She's prepared to face whatever lies ahead, her powers and her destiny awaiting her. Caden offers her a reassuring glance, his expression supportive, before they proceed to the ceremony.

The grand hall is lavishly decorated with balloons and flowers, creating a festive atmosphere that radiates joy and celebration. The room is filled with esteemed guests, nobles, and dignitaries from across the kingdom, all gathered to witness the blooming of Elara's powers on her 19th birthday. The air is electric with anticipation, and the crowd's collective excitement is palpable.

As Elara enters the hall, her loving father, the king, awaits her with a warm smile. He opens his arms, and Elara walks into his warm embrace. With affection and pride, he greets her, "Happy birthday, my dear daughter. May this day mark the beginning of a bright and prosperous future for you." His voice is filled with love and admiration, and his eyes shine with paternal pride.

As Elara makes her way through the hall, she greets the gathered nobles and dignitaries with a bright smile and gracious demeanor. She laughs and exchanges warm words with the guests, her charm and poise captivating the crowd. Caden follows closely behind her, his eyes watchful and protective.

The atmosphere is lively, with music and conversation filling the air. Elara's infectious laughter echoes through the hall, putting everyone at ease. She moves with confidence and elegance, her royal attire shimmering in the light.

As the ceremony progresses, the moment of truth arrives. The high priest steps forward, and the crowd quiets in anticipation. The priest raises his hands, and a burst of magical energy fills the air. It's time to see which power will bloom from Elara.

But as the energy envelops her, something unexpected happens. Nothing. No sparks, no glow, no manifestation of magical power. Elara's face falls, and an awkward silence fills the hall. Whispers spread among the people, their murmurs growing louder and more urgent.

The guests exchange uneasy glances, their expressions a mix of confusion and concern. Elara's eyes dart to her father, the king, searching for reassurance. But even he looks taken aback, his brow furrowed in worry.

As the awkward silence deepens, Elara's face burns with embarrassment. She quickly turns and makes a swift exit, her royal attire rustling as she hurries away from the stunned crowd. Caden follows closely behind, his eyes scanning the room as he keeps pace with Elara. The whispers and murmurs of the guests grow louder, but they're quickly left behind as Elara and Caden disappear into the crowd.

Meanwhile, a mysterious figure stands at the edge of the crowd, a sly smile spreading across their face. They watch Elara's departure with interest, their eyes glinting with a knowing light. As the commotion dies down, the figure turns and slips away, melting into the shadows. They move with a quiet confidence, their presence unnoticed by the distracted guests. The figure disappears into the night. They have found what they are looking for.
