Jillian looked at me right away, her expression impossible to read. Her lips twitched like she wanted to laugh, but she held it in.
I quickly wrapped my arms around myself, trying to hide my traitorous stomach that had just growled so loudly.
"I'm sorry," I mumbled. My voice came out small, my cheeks burning as a few people nearby started glancing our way.
"Oh, sweetheart, it's okay. Have you had dinner yet?" Jillian asked gently.
My eyes lit up when she asked that. After all, Penny had given me a random quest where Jillian was supposed to be the one to invite me to dinner.
But what if she was just casually asking? I mean, Jillian could easily say after this that I should go eat, without necessarily inviting me to dinner with her.
Still, no matter what she was about to say, it felt better to hope first.
"No… not yet," I replied, lowering my head slightly. "But I can grab some dinner when I get home later."
