Chapter 1 - Traces of the Shadow-Prologue

A Good Person Brings Joy,

A Bad One Brings Experience,

The Wrong One Teaches a Lesson,

But the Perfect One Leaves a Mark.

— Mevlana

First Blood

Darkness had swallowed every corner of the forest. Not a sound stirred. Moonlight filtered through the towering trees, casting scattered patches of silver on the forest floor. With each step, the rustling leaves and distant, indistinct noises only added fuel to Neva's growing unease.

In the beam of her flashlight, Nora was tracking a corpse—or at least, what she feared was one. The woman she was searching for had vanished ten days ago. And what happens after that? Even a fool could guess.

Though Nora had followed trails like this countless times before, something about tonight felt different. Maybe it was the string of brutal murders that had recently shaken the city to its core. Maybe this was her chance to catch the monster responsible.

Suddenly, a twig snapped. Nora froze, holding her breath. She aimed her flashlight toward the sound, but saw nothing. Just darkness. And silence.

Or so she thought. Because Nora wasn't alone in the forest. A shadow, hidden among the trees, was watching her. Like a predator waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

With instinctive precision, Nora drew her pistol from her belt. Her eyes darted through the gloom, scanning for movement.

Everything was happening at once. She was racing against time to find the missing woman—on orders from a superior she despised—while also realizing her own life was at risk in this desolate forest. It looked peaceful, but its dense trees and suffocating darkness concealed danger at every turn.

While Nora tore through the woods in the dead of night, back at the city's police station, her closest ally and trusted friend Elana was working the case from another angle.

Her desk was a chaotic mess of files, photographs, and scribbled notes—each one a piece of the puzzle. Elana knew Nora was out there alone and was desperate to help. But to catch this son of a bitch, they needed more—much more—evidence.

Suddenly, her phone rang. It was Ethan, the newest member of the team, who knew nothing about loyalty or camaraderie. But he had uncovered something important: a psychological insight into the killer's past.

Childhood trauma had twisted the killer's mind, possibly pushing him into the abyss. Ethan couldn't wait to share what he'd found with Elana.

Back in the forest, Nora remained alert. Her eyes caught subtle movements between the trees. She could almost guess who—or what—was out there. Slowly, she crept toward the source of the sound, heart pounding.

Just as she leaned around a tree, a shadow darted past. Nora's finger touched the trigger—but she didn't fire. It wasn't a person. It was a deer, bolting away in terror.

She exhaled, relieved. But the calm lasted only seconds. Another shadow lingered. This one didn't move. It just watched. And Nora knew, with chilling certainty, that this was the killer.

In that moment, the roles reversed. The hunter became the hunted. Nora began to follow the shadow. The forest's darkness became the stage for their silent dance.

Her steps were deliberate, quiet. Every motion shaped by years of experience—however much she had. As she ventured deeper, she felt the forest itself become part of the mystery. Every leaf, every tree, every whisper of wind seemed to play a role in this twisted game.

While tracking the killer, Nora was also confronting her own childhood fear: the forest. The hardships she endured growing up had forged her into the strong woman she was now.

Back at the station, Elena and Ethan continued building the killer's profile. Each new clue brought them closer to the truth. Ethan had uncovered a traumatic event from the suspect's youth—one that had led to institutionalization.

Elena studied the details, trying to predict the suspect's next move—if he was indeed the killer. If not, she had no idea what to expect.

🥀

In the forest, Nora pushed herself to stay on the trail. Every clue brought her closer to the endgame. Finally, she spotted a cabin. Its door was ajar, and a faint light glowed from within.

Gripping her weapon tightly, she approached. Her breath was ice. She pushed the door open—and froze.

Inside, the cabin was filled with colorful furniture, all covered in dust. It looked eerily like the room she'd lived in as a child. In one corner lay an old photo album.

Nora picked it up and flipped through the pages. Each photo was a window into her past. Her childhood stared back at her.

But one photo stood out—a family portrait. No, a whole clan. And in that moment, Nora realized the killer might be someone from her own family.

Back at the station, Elena and Ethan grew worried. They hadn't heard from Nora. Elena tracked her last known location and assembled a team to head into the forest.

Ethan stayed behind, continuing to analyze the killer's profile. Both of them were racing toward the truth, as if locked in a rivalry.

The chase resumed in the forest. Nora was after the killer. But now, the killer was after her. Each step was a move in a deadly game.

Finally, their eyes met. The look they exchanged was heavy with pain and fury. Nora was ready to capture him. But the killer had plans of his own.

This wasn't just a hunt. It was a reckoning. Both had to face their shadows. And the forest would bear witness to it all.

Or would it? Would weapons be drawn, or would only footprints remain in the shadows?

Let's watch and find out.
