"Welcome."
The moment the door opened, Vanessa found herself pulled into a warm embrace. Her grandmother wrapped her arms around her tightly, refusing to let go for several seconds. Behind her, her grandfather stood with a smile that was much softer than the stern expression Vanessa usually associated with him. Some of the tension in Vanessa's chest eased, if not all of it.
But at least, enough that she could finally breathe.
She had spent the entire journey preparing herself for suspicion, questions and tests. She had expected another round of investigations about Elliott and their relationship. Instead, her grandparents simply welcomed them inside as though they had been waiting for them all day and they were not the ones who had declared with certainty that Elliott was a gold digger.
"Come in. Come in," her Nonni fussed. "Elliott. I've known you are beautiful but the camera doesn't do you justice, child."
Vanessa rolled her eyes," He is not that beautiful, Nonni."
"He is."
