Chapter 6 - Darkness in the Elven Kingdom

The undead are evil creatures derived from the power of death. On the Continent, there is a large number of undead far from the central kingdoms.

Although they exist throughout the Continent, those found in the ruins of the elven kingdoms—especially in the largest one—varied between evil creatures and demonic beings.

They can be seen even in arid deserts, cold ice fields, and even in the endless sea. Especially at night, the undead are more active.

At night, countless undead creatures sleeping underground will awaken.

There are many types of undead, including skeletons, corpses, ghosts, zombies, abominations, etc. Common undead creatures have chaotic consciousness and almost no intelligence.

Generally speaking, only high-level undead—those that have existed for a long time—possess some level of intellect.

As elves, they were sensitive to the power of death. Not for nothing were they the guardians of nature and life; they were responsible for maintaining a perfect balance on the continent—until the humans appeared.

"There are too many…"

Thranduil saw that thousands of undead creatures were attacking. Their figures could be seen in the sky and on the ground, as vast and powerful as a black tide.

That scene was even more shocking than a swarm of vampire mosquitoes.

"A massive wave of nutrients for the trees, an offering we must claim!"

Thranduil told the elven swordsmen and archers, "You are free to fight, but make sure to protect your own safety."

Thousands of undead creatures, most of them low-level. Not many had reached the intermediate level, only a few dozen.

With Thranduil, a high-level mage, nearby, this undead army posed no threat to his territory.

But the numbers were still there, after all.

The Tree of Life has the ability to revive elven soldiers. However, Thranduil had asked the system and found out that, although the elves could be resurrected, it would also consume magical crystals equal to the amount used during training.

What Thranduil lacked the most now were magical crystals. Naturally, he didn't want to see any elven soldiers die by accident.

"Yes, sir!" The elven swordsmen and archers responded in unison to Thranduil's command, their king.

They did not attack recklessly but gathered near him.

Compared to destroying this undead army, they valued the safety of their Elven King more.

Soon, thousands of undead flooded the plaza. All of them were after one thing: to hunt the Solar Elven King among the group.

The first to arrive were the flying undead creatures. Most were undead birds, and some were ghost-like beings made of smoke.

Compared to physical undead creatures, ghosts are the hardest to deal with.

This type of undead is invisible and immune to almost all physical attacks. Of course, there are many ways to counter ghosts.

Like light magic, soul-realm secret arts, among many other combat methods. Especially the former, which is not only effective against ghosts but essentially kills all types of undead.

Upon the arrival of the undead, the elven archers took the initiative. They drew their bows and arrows with great skill and fired elven arrows glowing with green light into the sky.

The sound of the arrows piercing the air was sharp and penetrating.

Dozens of arrows, like green rays, instantly crossed hundreds of meters and hit their targets with incredible precision.

The undead creatures that were struck suddenly exploded. Some ghosts screamed and turned into gray smoke, disappearing.

The undead with physical bodies were also forced to disintegrate, turning into countless fragments and falling from the sky.

The arrows of the elven archers contained pure life and natural magic, which also had a certain restrictive effect on the undead. Especially when there was a large difference in level, the restraint was very noticeable.

Even the soul fire in their bodies was forcibly dispersed.

The sound of something shattering in the air was heard again and again…

The elven archers moved in unison, and arrow after arrow flew from their fingertips.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Long-range shooting allowed them to fire farther.

Powerful strikes made their arrows more lethal.

Additionally, the elven archers were skilled marksmen, and almost every arrow hit its mark without fail. In the blink of an eye, nearly a hundred flying undead creatures were annihilated by the elven archers.

Closely following them, Thranduil also took action.

He waved his magic staff toward the sky, and huge fireballs flew toward the undead creatures above.

These fire attacks were more than two meters in diameter. When they exploded against their targets, the fire didn't dissipate but spread across the sky.

Although the fireball is a low-level spell, when cast by Thranduil, its power was no less than that of ordinary high-level magic.

Fireballs exploded in the sky, emitting a light brighter than fireworks.

Waves of scorching fire swept through everything around. Suddenly, a large number of undead creatures ignited and were soon reduced to ashes.

At the same time, the ground forces of the undead legion also charged, and the first thing they encountered was a wall of fire over 20 meters tall.

The undead know no fear. They rushed into the wall of fire one after another.

Some undead with some intelligence tried to bypass the firewall, but Thranduil gave them no chance. He waved his magic staff continuously, creating more walls of fire in the direction of the undead army.

A large number of firewalls were arranged in a curved shape.

It was like a giant funnel that could trap the entire undead army.

However, the number of undead creatures was still far too great.

When a massive number of undead rushed toward the wall of fire, the elemental magic within the firewall was consumed quickly, and its lethality dropped sharply.

Eventually, some undead creatures managed to break through the firewall's blockade.

They charged toward Thranduil with flames still burning on their bodies.

At that moment, it was finally the turn of the elven swordsman guard to attack.

They covered dozens of meters in an instant, and the elven swords in their hands released beautiful lights. Each time a sword light slashed, an undead creature died instantly.

The strength of sixth-rank warriors far exceeded what these low-level undead could endure.

Roaaarrr!

A beast-like undead roared and pounced on an elven swordsman.

This was a creature modified through alchemy—anyone could tell. It stood about three meters tall, with long claws and sharp fangs. This was undoubtedly a powerful creature.

There weren't many undead creatures of this level in this undead army.

The elven swordsman at the front dodged the ghoul's attack with a quick movement and slashed its neck with his sword.

Clang!

The sound of metal striking something solid like iron echoed loudly across the battlefield.

But despite the heavy blow, the monster did not die.

Instead, it held its severed head between its claws and prepared to reattach it to its neck.

This scene perfectly reflected the attributes of undead creatures.

What is a fatal wound for most intelligent beings is nothing to the undead.

The fatal weakness of undead creatures is the soul fire within their bodies.

Unless the soul fire collapses, undead are hard to kill.

Even if the body explodes, as long as the soul fire isn't extinguished, the undead creature has a chance to resurrect and be reborn.

But the elven swordswoman facing this monster didn't give the ghoul a chance to recover.

She struck hard, greatly increasing the damage, and pierced directly through the monster's head with her elven sword.

At the same time, the tip of the sword burst with powerful magical energy, forcibly dispersing the undead's soul fire.

Only then did the monster fall to the ground with a thud.

Around the corpse lay many scattered fragments of dark green soul fire and dozens of explosive energy crystals.
