She hurried towards her second safe house. As she entered, a wave of unease washed over her; it felt wrong. The familiar flickering red light of the hallway camera was missing, and the usual quiet hum of the hidden recorder was silent. Her boot hit a trip wire, and dread filled her as she realized her mistake.
BANG! A smoke charge exploded behind her, filling the room with thick, suffocating clouds. Flash grenades followed, blinding her and ringing in her ears. Before she could react, three figures in black combat gear stormed in. She threw two knives with deadly accuracy at one of them, but they bounced off his Kevlar armor, leaving him unscathed. Fear surged through her as she tried to make a run for it.
She almost got away when one of the attackers lunged at her, jabbing a syringe into her neck. Cold numbness spread rapidly through her body, alongside an overwhelming wave of darkness that made her knees buckle.
