Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Liz's POV

So hot…

This is what I feel right now. My whole body feels like it is on fire, burning badly.

"Why hasn't Liz woken up yet?"

In my dream, I hear a gentle female voice enter my ears, soft and comforting.

"Why hasn't Liz woken up yet?"

The female voice is full of worry and love. I feel a soft hand touch my forehead.

"It's okay, Liz's fever has gone down."

A calm and steady male voice also enters my ears. These voices of a man and woman are very unfamiliar. My mind instantly becomes clear and I open my eyes.

I open my eyes and look at the strange environment and room. Immediately, my eyes are filled with caution.

"Liz! You are finally awake."

I am suddenly pulled into someone's arms. The one speaking is the owner of that gentle female voice I heard earlier.

"You scared mom so much."

My eyes are full of confusion. From the corner of my eyes, I observe the room. The furniture in the room gives off a strong feeling of being from the past.

The wardrobe and desk in the room are very simple. I have only seen furniture like this at my grandparents' old house.

"Host, are you okay?"

I hear the familiar voice of System Chlo.8, and my heart feels a bit more secure. I quickly ask the system in my mind.

"What's going on? Where are we?"

"Host, we are in another time, in the 1970s."

System Chlo.8 sends the memory of the original body to me. My head suddenly starts hurting. The middle-aged woman hugging me quickly lets go when she hears me take a sharp breath.

"What's wrong, Liz? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?"

I accept the memory of the original body and understand the situation. It is now July 1973, during the ten years of cultural disconnection.

The gentle woman and the calm middle-aged man in front of me are the parents of this body. The original owner of this body was the youngest daughter of the family.

The original owner was 23 years old, from Su City. Her parents worked at the embassy in M country as legal advisors.

Because of their jobs, she grew up living with her grandparents in Su City.

Two years ago, her parents were transferred back to the country and took positions in Hai City. Only then did she move back to live with them.

My mother, Madam Yuna, is 48 years old. After returning to the country, she became the deputy director of the legal department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hai City.

My father, Mr Xu, is 50 years old. After returning, he became the deputy mayor of Hai City.

The country is beginning to value law and improve the legal system. In the past two years, my father has made many contributions and pushed through a lot of changes.

Hai City is the main foreign trade city of China. Naturally, there are many opportunities to prosper. The higher authorities arranged for my father to become deputy mayor to fix the atmosphere and take control.

My father only thinks about the country and its people. He never accepts bribes. Because of this, the Xu family is targeted.

When my father took office, he acted strongly. His actions were too fierce, and he became a serious thorn in many people's eyes.

The old man of the Xu family used to work in the army as a psychologist, and the old lady was also a military doctor. When they were young, they followed the army into battles and made many achievements.

After retirement, they moved back to Su City to live. Liz was their only granddaughter. Her parents worked overseas for many years, so she grew up with her grandparents.

The old man and old lady had two sons. Her father was the younger son, and there was an elder brother living in the capital. With the eldest brother's family in the capital as support, Mr Xu dared to make bold moves in Hai City. But now, the whole family was facing pressure from all sides.

Because her parents behaved well and her grandparents had strong military achievements, people started to focus on Liz's generation.

She was the youngest daughter in the family and the only granddaughter. She had two elder brothers, both already married.

Her eldest brother, Shan, was 30 years old and served as a regiment commander in the south. He had been married for seven years to Rugene, a doctor in obstetrics and gynecology. They had a 6-year-old son, Yizhan, and a 3-year-old daughter, Yivie.

Her second brother, Xuren, was 26 years old and worked on scientific research in the northwest. He had been married to Liny, a high school teacher, for three years. She followed him to the northwest, and they had a 2-year-old son, Yihe.

Both brothers and their wives were contributing to the country, and because of their special work, no one could touch them.

But Liz, who stayed home without doing anything, became the target people criticized.

At that time, the government was calling young people to go to the countryside. Since she stayed home and did not follow this policy, she became a target for attacks.

The Women's Federation found out she had not gone. Her grandfather had to use many connections to protect her, but even so, she still could not escape the fate of going to the countryside.

Since the government's call had to be followed, and her grandfather was a respected veteran, it was even more important for their family to set an example.

When she heard about this, she worried too much, got sick with a high fever, and that was when Liz arrived in her body.

"System Chlo.8, is the original girl gone?"

"No, you are her."

Liz almost jumped up from the bed, but since her parents were still watching with concern, she had to pretend she just had a headache.

"My head hurts..."

"Lie down and rest. I'll cook some millet porridge for you," her mother said quickly. "Don't overthink again."

Her mother carefully helped her lie down, worried she might get sick again. They felt guilty because their daughter fell ill after hearing she had to either go to the countryside or get married.

Her father's calm face also showed worry. He knew it was his fault that his daughter was being targeted and put into such a difficult situation.

"Alright," Liz replied and lay down. After her parents left, she immediately asked System Chlo.8, "What is going on?"

"Host, this is your real home."

"But..." Liz could not accept it. In her original world, she had parents and family. If she left, what would happen to them?

"Don't worry," System Chlo.8 explained. "The main system has arranged a substitute to live as you in your old world. Until your family there passes away, your body will continue to exist."
