Chapter 25 - Chapter 25 – Surrender in the Shadows

Glass explodes—no warning, just this sharp, ringing crack. It ricochets through the cabin, loud enough to make her jump. Her hand clutches his shirt like she's going to fall through the floor. Shadows dance on the wall, all flickery and weird.

She tries to say something—"We should—" But nope. He shuts her up with a finger on her lips, gentle but firm.

"Shh," he says. His eyes? Man, they're wild—like he's done being scared and started feeling something else, something that burns. "We don't know how long we've got."

Her heart's hammering so loud, she's surprised he can't hear it. There's danger pressing in, practically breathing down their necks. But, honestly? Right then, all she feels is him. His hand on her cheek, rough and grounding. The warmth of him, the pull that's been simmering between them forever, just waiting to snap.

"This might be it," he mutters, voice all rough and cracked, like he's finally admitting something he's been shoving down forever. "I'm done pretending."

She's barely even got a breath in before he kisses her.

And holy hell, it's fire—messy, needy, desperate. She melts, fingers tangled in his hair, holding on like the room's spinning. Every look they shouldn't have shared, every almost-moment, every time they lied to themselves—gone. All that tension explodes.

Outside, someone stomps through the glass. Voices, angry and muffled. The danger? Just makes it hotter, makes them cling tighter, like the world's ending and this is all they get.

He hauls her onto his lap and crushes her against him, like maybe he can keep her safe through sheer willpower. She shakes, but it's not fear now—it's the heat, the wild, electric thing sparking between them.

"Stay," she breathes into his mouth, voice all shaky and real.

"Always," he growls, low and raw, like he means it with every messed-up part of him.

Something hits the back door, the whole cabin shudders, but they don't let go. Not this time. Screw the danger. If the world's about to fall apart, they'll go down together—no more walls, no more pretending, just this.
