Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 – The Alpha King’s Fury

His hand tightened around my wrist, not in agony, but to remind me that everything within this world was in his hand. The forest appeared to be shorter when he was included in the equation and his vitality fed the night.

Attempting to escape me? replied Lucian in a growly, threatening, as thunder, when the storm is approaching. You make a disgrace of my protection... my claim... my wolf.

I frowningly looked back at the body that was shaking. I never asked to be put on. I never requested you."

Gold bled into black his eyes. He had a burst of dominance so immense that my legs gave way. I heard my wolf yelling in me, but I put fists in my hands, and refused to get down on my knees.

"You dare to question me?" he growled, and was within easy reach of me, so that my back was pressed against the rough bark of a tree. And his hand on it, holding me down. "You are mine. You are my property."

The lines ought to have shattered me. But instead they lighted a fire, passion, terror, and a fire of desire which I could not believe.

You may chain my body, I sneered, but you will never chain my heart.

His jaws were closed a moment. His anger was a thunder-storm about to burst. Then unexpectedly, it broke. He breathed like a corpse, and spoke with a hoarse voice when he could speak.

You think I am not well aware of the feeling of being trapped? His hand fell out of the tree, and so far he looked almost. human. Breakable. "Forced into my first bond. To a Luna that I never loved. She died to protect a child that was not hers.

My torso tensed. His eyes were of gold and burning with old pain and hurt that was a new thing to me. And that is the reason why I cannot part with you, he said. Not that I would possess you... but because the Moon Goddess is a single time only. And I will be cursed at wasting mine.

There was a silence there. My wolf roused him with his confession.

I ought to have been relieved, but all that I experienced was a threatening reality very much on top of me.

Unless I left, he would eat me. If I left, I would destroy him.

And I could not say which of these fates I was the more frightened at.
