Chapter 2 - Surviving Point

Sweat dripped down Kyne's face. The chaos ripping through the air. The scream loud and scared. The figure's chest split open, ribs gleaming under faint light. A heart beat inside, pumping. The piercing yellow eyes tearing through your soul. The smell of blood and the feeling of death and fear wash over the people as they run and scream for their life. They don't care about killing but only not being dead.

"What are you?"

These words of a scared helpless person staring at the creature like it was asking him to die. He grabbed the gun and shot not out of choice but fear. It grazed the horrifying figure but it was like scrap to it. The creature lifted its leg and slammed its paw into the ground, making the person into a pile of blood and flesh. The blood spattered onto Kyne's face. This snapped him out and brought him back to face reality.

"My brain wanted to move but if I did I would die… instantly. The scenario wasn't about survival—it was about not dying stupidly."

Then Officer Kenny talked and commed, sounding like a dog barking.

"Shoot that dreaded creature!"

He sounded not calm and cruel like before but hard and panicked. The guard moved in though they were scared and shot the creature constantly. It stood there looking at us like ants and mocking by tanking all of it.

"This is my moment to escape."

Kyne thought as the guards didn't care about the orphan slave. Then when the monster moved and roared, Kyne got up. He had no time to waste as he bolted and ran as fast as he could.

The world seemed to slow down as the chaos of the creature ripping and tearing through the guard. Their screams echoing as Kyne runs, trying to escape the nightmare. But fate couldn't as the monster runs at the exit. It blocks it for Kyne to escape. He dodges the debris from the hideous creature landing and blocking his way.

He ducked into a small crack where the thing can't see him.

"Why… why it couldn't be anywhere else?"

He fears and tells with dread in his soul as he sees some of the other people. It's an orphan and they run. The monster twists and snaps its neck to it and grins, upon seeing its new prey to tear and make it into nothing but mush of blood and bone to feast upon.

"There are more… like me?"

He is shocked and unknowing at the fact that there are more orphans. Then a weak cry comes. Kyne turns to see a kid. The kid looks scared and it is hugging the bones of a human.

Kyne, shocked, mumbles to the scared child:

"This brat will get me killed."

The kid cries loudly. The monster, killing the other orphan and chewing on them, snaps at the cries and it slows. Head tilting. Listening. Searching. It walks slowly. It looks and hears the noise, trying to search and find the noise. Kyne moves quickly and closes the kid's mouth, shouting and making the cries less loud but it's too late. The creature walks up to the creak and stares into it. Its eyes tearing and searching for a soul to eat.

There was no noise except heavy breathing and dripping blood.Kyne sitting there, hoping to survive, and the child stopped wailing as he froze not making noise and the monster stopped looking into the creak and turned. Kyne horrified but realizing that it left. Kyne moved his hand off the child's mouth. The child gasps from fear of death. The child curls up into a ball, not crying loudly but silently. Kyne regaining and snapping back into reality, Kyne moves closer to the child.

The child mumbles to Kyne:

"Ho… how do you survive?"

Kyne looked surprised for a moment, wondering and pondering the question. He at last turned his head but the once sharp and horrified eyes now calm and peaceful. He replied:

"My old man chained me with words—survive, be free, even in madness. I live by them… But sometimes I wonder… is living any different from just not dying?"

The child's expression relaxed yet was still sad.

"I… I never met my parents. All I have is this necklace… I hold it when I'm scared. It's the only thing that feels real," he replied while holding a chain with a ring.

Kyne said:

"Just survive."

The kid looked up and said:

"What is your name?"

Kyne smiled and replied:

"I am Kyne."

"What's your name?"

The child told:

"I am Nilo."

The moment was truly peaceful as Kyne wondered:

"Is this peaceful? I don't know if it is."

Kyne questioned as the moment was peaceful. It was new for him as he always ran but never thought. Kyne looked over expecting a normal peaceful face from Nilo but instead saw a horrified face.

"What happened?"

Kyne sputtered to Nilo but then Nilo said something:

"I… it found us."

Kyne turned seeing a figure. It smelled like blood and its heart in its chest was open. It was the creature. It growled as cold heavy wind flew from its mouth. Kyne muttered:

"Shit."

The creature roared as it raised its head, smashing the walls of the cave with its antler. Tearing apart the wall of the cave and the ground shaking from it.

"We have to go," Kyne told as he grabbed Nilo's hand and jumped through the small silver that opened from the cave walls. He jumped, pulling Nilo with him. The creature reacted as it turned its head, ready to kill him but it was too big. Its antler getting stuck and Kyne seized the moment and ran with Nilo. The creature tried to move and chase but its antler, still stuck, pulled it back. But then constant shaking made the cave crumble.

Kyne did not have time but Nilo fell because he wasn't used to it. Trying to survive, Kyne grabbed Nilo and slung him onto his back and ran. The beast roared from pain, the rubble fell on its antler. Its head bleeding and it was screaming, struggling to get out but suddenly its antler broke off. The blood flew out in every way. Its body contorted but it roared now, livid, it ran after Kyne. But Kyne was oddly calm while compared to Nilo, who was freaking out. Then he stopped. He heard Kyne counting?

The atmosphere was thicker than the crust of the earth. It felt the world was collapsing on itself. The roar increased behind and noise of thudding and heavy footsteps. The creature was catching up but Kyne gasps and continued counting. They saw the red clear painted line with a sign. It was the border of the axis. One step closer to escape. But then the creature roared and sprang into the air about to land on them. They were closer, only a few steps. Kyne smiled as Nilo screamed.

"It's going to crush us!"

Kyne jumped at the last moment before it landed on Kyne and Nilo. The beast roared once again, pissed that it missed. Kyne fell and turned around. The beast roared as it jumped once more on Kyne. Kyne said:

"And 1."

He finished the countdown and before the beast passed the red paint, the roof and that part of the cave collapsed, crushing the beast. Blood spattered from the rubble.

"I… it's dead!" Nilo screamed.

And Kyne replied:

"Yes it is," as Kyne smirked. They walked till they reached the mining area where the orphans there continued as the guards beat them. Kyne and Nilo hid behind the rock, waiting to leave the wretched place after escaping death.

Then a noise came from the rubble.
