Chapter 80: True and False Gods and Escape
At this critical moment, Norn and Somo rushed out.
Serie had blocked all attacks from their side, so they immediately came to Kurtz's aid.
The two attacked simultaneously, their battle axe and longsword clashing with the god's attack.
The next second, both of them spat out blood and flew backwards.
Even with them risking their lives, they only managed to block two fatal beams of light; one still got through.
Serie followed closely.
She unleashed all her remaining magic without reservation, casting the Elves' highest-level spell.
Two beams of different colored light collided, and after a blinding explosion, she finally blocked the last attack.
However, everyone had lost their ability to fight.
Serie's magic was depleted, and although Norn and Somo could still barely move, they had sustained significant injuries.
Even Kurtz himself had overdrawn his life force, and his face turned pale.
The goddess looked at all of this coldly; what if they blocked her attack? It was nothing more than a dying struggle.
She raised her hand again, this time aiming directly at Kurtz himself.
But Eric disrupted the goddess's attack once again.
"Damn fuking god! Take this, you shit!"
He roared, pulling several gray-black metallic spheres from a pouch at his waist and throwing them with all his might towards the goddess.
These were magic items he had found in the Dwarf treasury, their effect somewhat similar to an enhanced version of the Illumination spell Kurtz had created.
They were also the most insane creations of the Dwarves.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Several successive explosions tore through the suppression of divine power! Bright light, like a sun exploding, illuminated the entire battlefield in stark white!
Following closely was violent flame, as if the air itself was burning.
Norn and Somo, who didn't have time to close their eyes, were temporarily blinded by this light.
"This guy is too reckless!" Norn cursed under his breath, though he could understand Eric's reason for being reckless.
But at least give a signal or a gesture!
"Well done!" Serie, surprisingly, praised him.
It turned out that as soon as Eric threw the metal spheres, Kurtz understood his actions and immediately cast a magic barrier, barely encompassing everyone and isolating most of the attack.
But the barrier quickly dissipated, for a simple reason: Kurtz could no longer hold on.
He knelt powerlessly on the ground, only his unyielding will supporting him from collapse.
Even the god's vision was affected by this blinding white light, and although she easily blocked the subsequent explosion, she was still slightly disturbed.
The beam grazed past everyone. The goddess was utterly enraged.
She distorted her projected face with extreme anger, losing all trace of divine indifference. Being interfered with again and again caused her to vent all her fury onto Eric.
She raised both hands high, divine power rapidly converging, and dyed the entire sky a suppressive dark red.
Dozens, even hundreds, of destructive beams of light condensed around her.
This power even caused the space around her to collapse, revealing a terrifying black hole that could swallow everything.
She locked all the beams onto the tiny Eric.
The air seemed to solidify. Facing the goddess's unsportsmanlike actions, Eric felt his blood freeze, and his bones creaked under the invisible pressure.
Just at this critical moment, the goddess's body suddenly trembled violently.
She clutched her head in pain, "Ugh... Ah ah ah--!"
A shriek erupted from her mouth.
Her body arched and convulsed in pain, as if something was tearing her apart from the inside!
"No! This is impossible!" Even her voice became chaotic, "You should have been suppressed by me!"
Even more astonishingly, her body began to switch between two forms constantly.
One moment, she was the familiar, benevolent goddess image, just like the statue, and the next, she transformed into a stern image with a cold expression, radiating a strong, oppressive aura.
"This is..." Serie watched this scene in shock.
Norn suddenly understood something: "Two souls! There are two souls in the goddess's body fighting for control!"
Gods were originally one, but due to differences in faith, they became true and false.
This referred to the concept of having two souls within the same body, not to becoming two different gods.
Just as the pseudo-god's grotesque and twisted face once again gained the upper hand, and the aura of destruction was about to engulf everyone again, the benevolent goddess's phantom miraculously forced itself to appear.
She looked at Kurtz and the others with difficulty, her voice weak but gentle: "Run... quickly...."
After saying this, her image was replaced by the majestic goddess's form again, but she had already bought them precious time.
Clearly, the goddess was embroiled in a fierce internal struggle and temporarily unable to concern herself with Kurtz and the others.
"Go!" Norn grabbed the still-stunned Eric, "Quick, take Kurtz and go!"
Eric, realising the situation, immediately rushed forward and, with Norn, helped the exhausted Kurtz, one on each side. Somo picked up Orger and the fragments of el's light and followed closely, while Serie covered their retreat.
Behind them, the goddess's painful screams echoed through the sky: "You can't escape!"
Her threat was interrupted by an even more violent fluctuation of divine power; the entire sky began to distort, then became covered in cracks like a shattered mirror.
They dared not look back, using all their remaining strength to flee desperately into the distance.
The two supported Kurtz, who gradually lost consciousness amidst the severe pain in his body and the depletion of his magic and even life force.
The last thing he saw was Orger losing its light, turning into an ordinary iron sword. The divine runes that had once blazed with celestial fire now lay cold and dead along its blade, a weapon of legend reduced to scrap metal.
The holy sword that could once cleave gods now remained only in silent dimness. All their hope, all their struggle, condensed into this one moment of devastating loss.
When everyone finally escaped to a safe area, Kurtz had fallen into a coma. Serie examined his injuries, her fair fingers trembling slightly.
"Kurtz's injuries are severe!" She said softly, "Orger used its last strength to stop the bleeding temporarily, but he needs treatment; the god's power is still continuously eroding his life force."
Eric clenched his fists, looking at the distant sky: "That benevolent figure, is she the true goddess?"
Norn nodded heavily: "Yes, the one who attacked us just now was the pseudo-god."
"But Eric's moves really opened my eyes," Dwarf Somo admired sincerely.
"After all, I haven't been idle this past week!" Eric laughed, but before he could enjoy it for long, Serie interrupted him.
"Don't waste time, I remember there's an Elf village ahead, hurry!"
None of them dared to delay; they quickly carried Kurtz on their backs and ran in the direction Serie indicated.
