Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Demonstration of Magic

Chapter 35: Demonstration of Magic

"Are you saying you want to teach them magic?" Serie tilted her head, staring at Kurtz.

After the initial excitement of their reunion faded, Kurtz pulled her aside to make this request. The quiet corner of the village provided just enough privacy for the conversation.

"As you wish."

Serie had no objections. After all, teaching one was teaching, and teaching two was also teaching.

Furthermore, Kurtz's modifications using his ridiculous [Creation] magic had already improved the magic she and he were currently using, creating something that had departed from the scope of Elven magic entirely.

It was just that Kurtz would need to convince Kraft himself.

However, it shouldn't be a significant issue. After all, that guy hadn't returned from the Elf Forest for hundreds of years, so he probably no longer cared about those old rules.

"But what magic did you use to injure that Demon so much?" Serie's curiosity sparked in her golden eyes.

Serie remembered that when she arrived at the cliff, the Demon was already severely injured, with half of his body destroyed. His survival was entirely due to his race's special physical condition.

"I estimate that Demon must have also modified his own body; otherwise, such severe injuries would have turned him into ash long ago."

Serie carefully speculated. Since the other party had magic that could control the corpses of magical beasts, it was not surprising for him to perform necromantic modifications on his own body.

"That is indeed possible."

Kurtz nodded, agreeing with her speculation, then explained the move he used to injure the Demon severely. As he described the light-absorption technique, Serie's eyes grew increasingly intense.

"Absorb light and then explode?" Serie found it a bit hard to understand.

The concept challenged everything she knew about conventional magic theory. "Can you show me?"

Kurtz felt hesitant.

Mainly, he was still in the exploration stage with this move and wasn't very proficient at using it. The memory of barely controlling it during the actual fight still made him nervous.

The most important thing was that he only knew how to release it, but not how to retract it, and this caused quite a big commotion.

After he told Serie his concerns, she merely said lightly, "Then let's go somewhere far away to try it."

Serie had never forgotten her purpose.

To teach Kurtz magic so that he could create even more powerful spells. The prospect of witnessing truly innovative spell work sent excitement thrumming through her veins.

Now, hearing that he had created such powerful magic, she naturally couldn't suppress her excitement.

Kurtz nodded and said a few words to Norn and Eric, as he thought if it were too loud later, it would definitely alarm the two of them.

It was also a preemptive warning.

However, to his surprise, these two also wanted to see it. Their eyes held the same eager curiosity he'd seen when they first witnessed his water magic.

Mainly, they had not yet witnessed the terrifying power of magic, and when they had sparred with Kurtz earlier, Kurtz had always restrained the magic he used, employing no large-scale, destructive magic.

Kurtz agreed, while Kraft and Somo also joined in together, wanting to see his most powerful magic spell.

Looking at the group of people staring intently at him, Kurtz said helplessly, "You really have nothing better to do."

"It's rare for you to show us something other than delicious food, so I must join in the fun." Somo replied with a grin, his enthusiasm infectious despite the potential danger.

Thus, the group arrived at an open clearing outside the village.

Because this area was still within the Gemir Forest, there was no need to worry about monster attacks, only needing a few guards against the occasional wild beast that might appear.

But for everyone present, if any beast ignorant of death dared to appear before them, it would only be an extra dish for dinner tonight.

Kurtz stood in the center of the clearing, with everyone standing behind him, maintaining a distance, and then began to control his magical power.

The familiar weight of mana settled in his chest like a gathering storm, as magic circles began to appear in his palm.

The situation had been urgent at that time, and Kurtz didn't have time to optimize this magic, but fortunately, its power still met his expectations.

Now Kurtz was preparing to unleash this magic fully. Without the pressure of imminent death, he could take his time and channel properly.

Kurtz concentrated on controlling the flow of energy. Serie could sense that the magic power around Kurtz was beginning to exhibit an incredibly violent state.

The very air seemed to thicken with barely contained force.

And in the next second, darkness consumed everyone's vision.

To be precise, this space had its light stripped away.

This darkness lasted only for an instant, not even half a second. Norn and Eric even thought they had imagined it, a brief blink that left them questioning their own senses.

Somo, however, noticed the anomaly, rubbed his eyes, and his body's instinct made him retreat two more steps. Years of battlefield experience had taught him to trust those split-second warnings.

As for this darkness, Kraft and Serie, who were the most sensitive to it, both had extremely solemn expressions.

The former was due to a warrior's intuition, while the latter had noticed something wrong with the magic power flow in the air just now. The magical signature felt almost predatory in its hunger.

"What a terrifying aura," Kraft exclaimed.

His warrior's instinct made him instinctively assume a combat stance, and all his muscles tensed to their limit unconsciously. Even his hand drifted unconsciously toward his sword hilt.

"It seems Kurtz has created a very terrifying magic."

Serie subtly cast two layers of defensive magic on herself, while also quietly expanding a magic circle with her small hand, ready to release a magic barrier if the situation went awry.

As their words fell, Kurtz's channeling in front of them finally completed.

Since he didn't have to face a life-or-death situation as before, Kurtz could channel slowly.

The small white dot from before had also transformed into a fist-sized ball of light, indicating that its power had multiplied several times.

The sphere pulsed with contained energy, beautiful and terrifying in equal measure.

This ball of white light floated quietly in Kurtz's palm, then began to rotate, emitting a piercing hum that formed visible light waves, distorting the air around it.

Norn and Eric's eyes widened, and they instinctively retreated a few steps, even hiding behind Somo in unison. The primal fear of something beyond their understanding overrode any embarrassment.

This made Somo so angry that he blew his beard and glared, if he had one.

Among the two who did not retreat, Kraft assumed a defensive posture, while Serie silently unfurled a magic barrier in front of herself.

Her expression was one of intense focus mixed with genuine awe.

They had never seen such powerful energy fluctuations; simply standing far away and watching made their hearts pound with a mixture of fear and fascination.

"It's coming!"

Kurtz suddenly threw his hands forward, launching the ball of light dozens of meters away, then immediately released a magic barrier in front of himself, identical to Serie's.

BOOM!!!

.

.

.

The deafening explosion sent a dazzling pillar of light shooting straight into the sky. The sound hit them like a physical force, causing their ears to ring and their bones to vibrate.

A violent energy shockwave spread in all directions, blowing away everything on the ground. The explosion reduced everything at the epicenter to ashes, revealing the black soil beneath.

Even trees far from the epicenter swayed violently, leaves and broken branches falling like rain. Birds erupted from the canopy in terrified clouds, their cries lost in the aftermath.

When the light dissipated, everyone was shocked to find a massive, charred pit dozens of meters in diameter at the center of the clearing. The edges were perfectly smooth, as if some divine hand had scooped away the earth itself.

"This…" Eric's mouth hung open, unable to speak for a long time.

He couldn't even imagine what kind of disaster such magic would cause if it fell into the village. The image of their wooden homes disintegrating under such power made his stomach clench.

"What powerful magic." Norn stared at the large pit the magic had created, as if contemplating something more profound than mere destruction.

If humans could also learn such powerful magic, they should be able to stand proudly in this world, instead of living a life of hiding. The thought ignited something fierce and hopeful in his chest.

At this moment, Norn suddenly had a strong desire to make Kurtz teach him these magic spells, no matter the cost, and then he would pass them down to his descendants.

These magic spells, passed down and refined over generations, would surely create a better future for humanity.

A future where they wouldn't have to cower before other races and the dangers of this world, a future where they could stand as equals in this world.
