Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: I Won't Call the Police

Toyokawa Sakiko had never cooked before, because her family had chefs and maids.

After running away from home, Toyokawa Sakiko had tried cooking for herself, but it didn't taste good - sometimes she'd end up with something completely black.

Therefore, Toyokawa Sakiko usually either bought convenience store bentos or ate bread and instant noodles - she rarely got to eat a hot, proper meal.

Her transfer to Hakyuu Girls' Academy was largely due to the free lunch there, aside from tuition and scholarships.

Toyokawa Sakiko ate Hoshino Miru's dinner in small bites. She suddenly found it very delicious - incredibly so.

If not for considerations of feminine modesty and guest decorum, she probably would have eagerly devoured all the food before her.

Even so, Toyokawa Sakiko still finished this dinner faster than usual.

Perhaps feeling embarrassed, after everyone finished eating, Toyokawa Sakiko actively helped Hoshino Miru clear the dishes, silently following him into the kitchen.

"Do you want to stay tonight?" Hoshino Miru watched the girl's delicate jade hands - under the running water, her fair, smooth skin showed a hint of pink, easily bringing to mind the image of her playing piano.

"I... I don't want to go back for now." Toyokawa Sakiko hesitated for a moment, secretly observing Hoshino Miru's reaction from the corner of her eye. She knew she was being presumptuous.

"Don't look at me like that. With a beautiful girl like you, I'd be more than happy for you to stay." Hoshino Miru found it amusing. "Rather, it's you who might have to share a room with me if you stay - my house doesn't have a spare guest room."

Toyokawa Sakiko was stunned. She hadn't thought about this problem at all.

"I can stay on the living room sofa." Toyokawa Sakiko felt some regret - she shouldn't have acted on impulse.

"Just kidding." Hoshino Miru smiled. "You can sleep in my room tonight. I'll make do in the study for one night."

"No, I should go to the study. This is your house - I can't monopolize your room." Toyokawa Sakiko's first reaction was to oppose this arrangement.

"Fine, we'll switch. You go to the study, I'll stay in my own room." Hoshino Miru blinked.

Toyokawa Sakiko was first stunned, then puffed out her cheeks slightly. Well, this guy was specifically waiting here for her - how annoying.

"If I stay here tonight, will your sister mind?" Toyokawa Sakiko felt somewhat embarrassed. "Her attitude earlier... didn't seem very good."

Kasugano Sora was no longer in the living room. After finishing dinner, she had stormed upstairs angrily.

If it would cause them to fight, Toyokawa Sakiko felt she might as well go back.

"Sorry, this child likes clinging to me." Hoshino Miru said helplessly. "No matter who it is, she'll mind."

Toyokawa Sakiko showed a very strange expression, as if looking at a perverted lolicon.

"Although we are indeed cohabitating, it's definitely not as unseemly as you're imagining." Hoshino Miru denied it outright. "To me, she's currently still a little girl who needs my care."

Toyokawa Sakiko blushed. What? Had she been imagining unseemly scenes?

Just a perverted lolicon cohabitating with a girl.

"I didn't say anything - someone just has a guilty conscience." The girl decided to retaliate a little.

"Someone first showed a very rude expression, so I thought I'd explain." Hoshino Miru thought for a moment. "To prevent you from overthinking, I'll clarify in advance - I've never been in a relationship."

Toyokawa Sakiko was genuinely surprised this time, because Hoshino Miru was not only cohabitating with Kasugano Sora but also knew the famous little idol Sumita Mana.

Yet Hoshino Miru was now telling her he'd never been in a relationship - it was almost unbelievable.

Soon, Toyokawa Sakiko had an enlightened expression and looked at Hoshino Miru with even more contemptuous eyes.

"Secret relationships, two-timing." The girl sighed. "Don't worry, Hoshino-senpai, I'll keep this secret for you."

"If I were two-timing, you'd be the next target." Hoshino Miru's expression was blank, making it hard to tell if he was joking or serious.

"Thank you for senpai's favor, but it's impossible." Toyokawa Sakiko lifted her chin slightly, eyes full of pride. "No matter what senpai is thinking, I'm an impossible target."

"When saying such things, first consider whose territory you're on." Hoshino Miru adopted a slightly threatening tone. "Delivering yourself to my door - don't think I'll easily let you go."

Toyokawa Sakiko suppressed her laughter while keeping a straight face: "Fine, whatever senpai wants to do to me, bring it on."

Hoshino Miru had been maintaining his stern expression, but hearing her say this, he suddenly felt somewhat dejected.

"You really aren't worried at all about what I might do to you, are you?"

His expression was too interesting - Toyokawa Sakiko found it hard not to laugh.

"You won't." The girl finally contained her laughter, her long eyelashes trembling lightly, though her eyes still held teasing mirth. "If you really do something to me, I'll consider it my bad luck."

Hoshino Miru's heart skipped a few beats. What did she mean by "her bad luck"?

Such words coming from a girl's mouth made one's imagination run wild.

"You'd call the police the moment I make a move, right?" Hoshino Miru felt he wouldn't fall for this so easily.

"I won't call the police." Toyokawa Sakiko smiled slightly.

Hoshino Miru couldn't help but glance over, looking at the girl's delicate face, budding chest, slender waist, skirt falling to her calves yet still showing her somewhat perky, rounded hip line. Though she hadn't developed exaggerated sexy curves, she still had the assets a beautiful girl should have.

The girl's calves weren't wearing stockings - her fair, delicate skin looked particularly enticing in the slightly dim kitchen. Only thin white socks wrapped her two little feet, wearing his house slippers, looking obedient and cute.

This outfit wasn't particularly sexy - what was alluring was the girl herself. Having such a beautiful girl standing beside him, anyone would feel a moment of attraction.

However, Hoshino Miru knew that the moment he looked over, he had already fallen into her trap.

Because Toyokawa Sakiko was suppressing laughter - obviously, she was just teasing him.

"I almost fell for your trick. Pretty girls really are good at deceiving people."

"I wasn't deceiving anyone. I was testing you, since you keep saying you have ulterior motives."

"Next time you say such things, I'll take it seriously."

Toyokawa Sakiko blinked. Although they'd only met a few times, she inexplicably trusted Hoshino Miru very much. She didn't believe he would really do anything to her.

After finishing the dishes, they returned to the living room together.

Toyokawa Sakiko sat on the sofa, gently stretching. For some reason, she felt particularly relaxed and comfortable now.

"Sit down, I have something to tell you." Toyokawa Sakiko patted the sofa beside her.

Hoshino Miru silently sat next to her. After waiting a while, he still hadn't heard the girl speak.

"What did you want to tell me?" Hoshino Miru felt the atmosphere was a bit awkward.

"I'm building up to it, don't rush me." Toyokawa Sakiko took a deep breath. "Apart from little Mutsuki, I haven't told anyone about these things. Senpai should understand my feelings."

"The more you say that, the more I feel it's going to be something troublesome." Since she could even joke earlier, Hoshino Miru could naturally tease her back.

Without realizing it, their relationship had developed to the point where they could tease and joke with each other.

Even Toyokawa Sakiko found this incredible. Was it because she'd beaten up Hoshino Miru earlier and was in a good mood?

Toyokawa Sakiko indeed didn't mind his teasing. Seeing his disgusted expression, she couldn't suppress the upward curve of her lips.

"A mere defeated opponent has no right to object." Toyokawa Sakiko snorted lightly. "Please listen honestly to what I say, because this is very important."

Actually, Hoshino Miru could guess what she was going to say and mentally prepared himself.

"Last year, my mother passed away."

Thinking of those happy yet painful memories, Toyokawa Sakiko slowly closed her eyes, unconsciously clenching her hands.

On the other side, a system window suddenly popped up before Hoshino Miru's eyes.

[Due to your active approach, Toyokawa Sakiko now considers you a friend.]
