Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: Runestone

After a day of rest and baptism by the Holy Light, Elna had almost fully recovered. At noon, Leylin emerged from the Sanctum of the Sun, enjoying the warmth of the afternoon sun.

"Stop wandering around, just rest and recuperate." Ranger General Sylvanas, passing by, said to Leylin unhappily.

Leylin smiled awkwardly and said, "I'm fine, no injuries or anything. I'm coming out for some fresh air. Lying down all the time gets tiring, doesn't it?" Sylvanas didn't continue to blame Leylin.

She sighed deeply and said, "Don't ever do that again! If something really happened to you, my sister will hate me forever." Leylin didn't respond, but replied with a smile.

Sylvanas had no choice but to return to her cold demeanor. "Do whatever you want, but you better not die in the mission I've planned."

The words sounded chilling, but Leylin chose to ignore them. He would always remember that day when Sylvanas was too distressed at him, filled with caution and worry. Leylin quietly smiled at this ranger's tsundere personality.

"Well, I'll try my best," Leylin said, following the Ranger General's lead.

"You!"

Leylin spread his hands, his eyes, usually devoid of emotion, now tenderly looking at Sylvanas. "Thank you for worrying about me that day. I'll remember this for the rest of my life."

The Ranger General, once calm and indifferent, trembled at Leylin's words, her thin body visibly tense. "No need. Any other person would have done the same that day. Don't worry about it. This is my duty," Sylvanas said nervously.

Knowing that she was now a Ranger General, many things couldn't be fully articulated. Maintaining his composure, Leylin said, "Of course, you don't need to worry about what happened that day, but I do, and I remember it clearly."

"Shut up. I don't want to hear it." Sylvanas turned hastily, leaving Leylin with a frail figure.

"The mentor will be back at the temple this afternoon, right? That's what Kaendris told me this morning."

Sylvanas' tone softened, and he nodded. "Time's almost up. I'm sure your mentor will come see you first. "

With that, Sylvanas walked to the ranger camp in front of the temple, while Leylin continued to bask in the sun on a bench surrounding the flowerbed.

A quarter of an hour later, Leylin, his eyes tightly closed, suddenly felt a darkening sensation.

"Student, are you feeling better?" A wise mage with a kind smile appeared before Leylin.

Leylin stood up politely and saluted his mentor. Two months had passed, and this was the first time he had seen his mentor, Grand Magister Belo'vir.

"Yes, much better."

Belo'vir gently patted Leylin's shoulder, inviting him to sit down again.

"I'm sorry to have worried you, mentor."

"No, student, you haven't caused me any trouble. On the contrary, you're my pride now," Belo'vir looked at Leylin with admiration.

Leylin made room for the mentor, and mentor and student sat together on the bench.

"Don't continue praising me, teacher. Tell me the purpose of your visit. I believe you're not here just to visit me," Leylin said.

Grand Magister Belo'vir nodded. His student's thinking was always so clear.

"Indeed, the powerful sorcery over the past two days has dealt a heavy blow to several of our camps. I'm here to resolve this issue."

Leylin remembered the effects of that massive witchcraft vividly. If it weren't addressed and resolved promptly, it was hard to imagine the troll wizards unleashing such a powerful spell again.

"Have you found a solution?"

Belo'vir shook his head. "Not yet, but there will be some time. For now, we can only limit the impact of this spell."

"With what?"

Belo'vir pulled a white stone with magical runes from a magic package and said, "Runestones. Use these runestones, networked with special magical energy, to counteract the negative effects of the spell."

It sounded a bit complicated; Leylin wasn't familiar with the specific structure and workings of these runestones.

"Brace yourself. I need your help, student."

"Are you letting me accompany you teacher on another mission?" Leylin's tone was filled with surprise.

Retracting the runestone suspended in his left hand, Grand Magister Belo'vir rejected Leylin's offer, "Student, you have another mission, equally important."

Nodding in acceptance, Leylin waited for his teacher to give information the task. The mission was simple: the Grand Magister wanted Leylin and another scout team to search for altars scattered along the front lines of Zeb'Nowa.

The potent sorcery unleashed this time must have been achieved through the combined efforts of multiple altars. Once they found the altars, the rest was simple: mark them on the map and bring the blueprint back to Instructor.

The mission lasted only two days, after which the grand magister would work with the mages of the Magisters to carry out the remaining tasks. During these days, they would prepare the runestones and inscribe the necessary information into them to ensure smooth operation, ensuring the desired effect after connecting with magical energy.

Night fell quickly, and Leylin did not disturb the grand magister and the mages of the Magisters. He went straight to the second floor of the temple for his routine evening study and refining of magical energy.

Carrying out missions during the day and studying magic at night has become Leylin's lifestyle. The training and growth over the past two months have improved Leylin's magical prowess to a new level.

Leylin clearly sensed the simultaneous changes in his magical energy. The magical energy within his body has reached a peak of abundance.

This abundance of magical energy is allowing the accumulated energy to advance to an even higher level.

The substantial change brought about by these changes is that Leylin can now create 30 mana orbs. This is a significant improvement. Considering that 18 mana orbs are already considered the level of a high-level magister.

Leylin is confident that after another breakthrough, he might officially be stepping into the ranks of a demigod. Though he's not quite sure because he hasn't encountered a demigod yet.

Furthermore, Leylin's magical training has not ceased. As Leylin sat in the quiet clearing, immersed in the gentle flicker of newfound hope, a familiar shadow emerged from the trees.

A tall figure, cloaked in a weathered leather coat, stepped forward with quiet confidence. His eyes, sharp and kind, sparkled with pride and relief.

"Job well done, my friend," he said softly, his voice resonating like a comforting melody. "You've protected Elna."

Leylin turned his head, a small smile crossing his face as he saw his old companion — a black war horse, his most trusted steed.
