Chapter 26 - Chapter 22: Shinichi’s growth

Year 26

A year passed swiftly.

Uchiha Shinichi advanced a grade in the Ninja Academy, but little had changed. The curriculum remained lackluster, with no significant training schedules. The only notable addition was the introduction of chakra theory and the famous leaf concentration exercise.

Students were instructed to place a leaf on their forehead and direct chakra to it, improving their focus and basic chakra control.

Shinichi followed the instructions… briefly.

Then, out of boredom, he diverged.

He began to perfectly overlap the surface of the leaf with chakra, filling each cell with precision. At first, the leaf crumbled under the pressure. But after a month of refinement, he could insert and withdraw chakra seamlessly, without damaging the leaf or leaving any visible glow.

To the naked eye, the leaf was unchanged.

But to a sensor, or someone with Sharingan or Byakugan, it looked like a battery of chakra.

Shinichi had reached near-mastery of chakra control with simple leaf.

---

Outside the academy, Shinichi trained under his father, Uchiha Fukashi.

Last year, he had learned tree climbing, water walking, and cliff scaling. This spring, Fukashi introduced nature transformation.

Shinichi had already mastered many of clan's Fire and Lightning jutsus. With his abundant chakra pool and three-tomoe Sharingan, he absorbed techniques with ease.

Now, he turned to Water and Earth.

Base on his past experiments and attempts, Shinichi successfully devised theories for each chakra nature transformation.

Fire: chakra compressed and rubbed together, like warming hands in winter, generating heat can accelerate fire charka transfomation.

Lighting: chakra collided and sparked, creating electric energy.

Wind: capture the ambient or internal air, then split into two flows; one stationary, one rotating rapidly. The rotating chakra grinds the air like a whetstone, forming razor-sharp wind blades.

Erath: chakra condensed into rigid structures, hardening it into solidity.

Water: this was the challenge.

Shinichi tried fluidizing chakra like a river. He shaped it into jelly-like forms. But nothing clicked.

Then, he removed heat – eliminating fire aspects – and created a dense sea of chakra, increasing pressure gradually. He found the balance: not as dispersed as wind, not as solid as earth. A middle ground. He then bind the chakra to ambient humidity or internal moistures – by mimicking the molecular structure of water, the chakra transformed into water itself.

Water chakra was about pressure, fluidity, and temperature.

By summer's end, Shinichi could cast simple Wind, Earth, and Water jutsus with ease.

During his training, Shinichi uncovered another deeper truth.

Hand seals are pathways – equations that shape chakra into specific combinations. Each seal outputs a unique effect. A sequence of effects then becomes a jutsu.

For jutsus below B-rank, copying the hand seals and using the neutral chakra was enough.

But for B-rank and above, there were two paths: 1. A long sequence – typically 30 or more hand seals – performed with neutral charka. 2. A shortened sequence, but requiring a precise chakra ratio.

For example:

Katon: Gōka Mekkyaku 火遁・豪火滅却 (Fire release: Majestic Destroyer Flame or great fire annihilation) short sequence requires: 75% Fire chakra, 20% Yang, and 5% Yin chakra to complete the jutsu. And simply copying the shortened hand seals alone – without the correct chakra mix – results in failure.

Alternatively:

Suiton: Suiryudan no jutsu 水遁・水 龍弹の術 (water release: water dragon bullet technique) can be completed with 44 hand seals using neutral chakra. However, the shortened version requires precise chakra ratio, much like the Goka Mekkyaku mentioned before.

The Sharingan are infamous for its ability to discern both the hand seal sequence and the chakra ratio instantly.

But even with perfect vision–

To mirror a jutsu in real time, the user must possess exceptional chakra control, not to mention certain degree of chakra nature manipulation.

And all ELITE-JONIN-level Uchiha are capable of this feat; excluding some high level water release techniques.

Other non-Uchiha ninjas could copy the hand seals.

But not the ratio.

And that–

That was the root of the Uchiha's arrogance.

Their superiority wasn't just in their eyes.

It was in their ability to see the equation, chakra patterns, types, and ratio – and solve it instantly.

A day after Shinichi returned from his nature transformation training with Fukashi, he created another training regime for the Academy students.

Another training method disguised as a game.

Using small scale Earth and Water release jutsus, Shinichi altered a portion of the academy playground:

Doton: Tsuchi Nami no Jutsu 土遁・土波の術(Earth release: Earth wave technique)

Doton: Chidōkaku 土遁・地動核(Earth release: moving earth core)

Doton: Sunaryūga 土遁・砂流河(Earth release: sand flow river)

Doton: Doryūga 土遁・土流河(Earth release: earth flow river)

Suiton: Suihachi 水遁・水鉢(Water release: Water Bowl)

He softened the earth, then created three pits:

A river of sand, a pool of mud, and a basin of still water

He gathered the students.

"Alright, here's a new game," he said. "Four Layers: soft earth, sand, mud, and water. Your task is to walk across them without leaving a footprint."

The children blinked.

"Use chakra to create a surface beneath your feet. Harden it just enough so your step doesn't disrupt the layer."

He demonstrated.

Walking across each surface, he left no trace, ripple, or indentation.

"See? It's not that hard."

The children gave bitter smiles.

'Not that hard?! What kind of chakra control do you need for that?!'

Then Shinichi demonstrated another round, but faster.

Again. He left no traces along the path.

"This is the end goal you should pursue."

The children were speechless.

'Are you asking us to run, before learning to walk?'

Regardless–

They tried.

Shinichi was not their goal, but others? They had to outrank others.

Most failed at the first layer.

Some with natural talent made it to sand.

A few older students reached the water, but none matched Shinichi's seamless stride.

'Was leaving no footprint and no ripple too much?' Shinichi watched quietly on the side and pondered. 'Nah. It's just a game. Let them play. Let them learn.'

And so, the academy evolved.

Not through curriculum.

But through a child's imagination.
