Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Under the Full Moon (Bite of the Predator)

The wind carried her scent-wild, restless.

His eyes darkened, lost in memory.

It had been a night not unlike this one...

A restless moon. A girl on the edge. And him-watching from the shadows.

There she was-alone in the street, bathed in silver moonlight, weeping bitterly.

He could smell the despair bleeding off her like smoke.

Her shoulders shook with every breath. Her soul, bare. Exposed. Ripe.

Scar had seen pain before-but hers was different. Raw.

The kind of pain that makes a person want to disappear.

He didn't speak. Not at first.

He just watched.

Like a predator. Waiting.

"I wonder what's got her down weeping... humans, such fascinating beings," he murmured, voice laced with curiosity and contempt.

"I just want him... I just want him to be mine," she whispered between sobs, voice breaking like glass.

Scar's eyes glinted, glowing faint red in the dark. He licked his lips slowly.

"Damn humans... she's in this state all for a guy?" he muttered, almost laughing.

"This is interesting."

He stepped out from the shadows, and the night shifted with him.

"Who's the one you so desire?" he asked, voice smooth-too smooth.

She looked around, startled. No one was there.

But when she lifted her gaze, her breath caught-he stood right in front of her, inches away, a wicked grin carved across his face.

"Don't be afraid, girl," he said softly.

She stumbled back, eyes wide with fear.

"Wh-who are you? What do you want from me?"

He took a slow step forward, shadows clinging to his frame like a second skin.

"I desire nothing from a human," he repeated, voice laced with amusement. "I'm just here to have... fun."

Emily's breath hitched.

"This some kind of joke?" she asked, trying to steady her voice.

"You think my pain is funny?"

Scar's grin widened, eyes glowing faintly red.

"Not funny," he whispered. "Beautiful."

Then he leaned closer, voice dropping to a near purr.

"And you, little girl... your pain. Your desperation. It's perfect."

"What are you talking about? And who's little? You're the high schooler stalking me. Now get out before I call the cops."

Scar let out a low, dark, mocking chuckle.

"You still don't get it, do you?" His voice sharpened like a blade.

"I won't be caught dead stalking the likes of you. I'm here to offer you a choice."

He stepped closer, that wicked grin never fading.

"Keep crying over someone who never wanted you... or become something no one will ever hurt again."

She stared, trembling-unsure if this was madness or a nightmare born of grief.

"A choice...?" she echoed, voice barely a whisper.

His eyes gleamed like a predator's beneath the moonlight.

"One bite. That's all it takes. No more weakness. No more begging. No more pain."

His voice dropped to a velvet whisper, wrapping around her fear.

"Say the word... and he'll be yours."

Her breath hitched. Somewhere deep inside, the girl clung to reason.

But the darkness was already whispering back.

"A-are... are you some... va-vampire?" she stammered, eyes locked on his glowing red gaze.

Scar let out a sharp laugh, genuinely amused.

"Vampire?" he scoffed, taking one slow, final step that erased the distance between them.

"No," he said, voice low and cutting. "I'm something far worse."

He leaned in, his breath grazing her ear.

"I don't feed on blood alone. I feed on flesh. On fear. On despair."

Then he pulled back, eyes burning into hers like twin embers.

"Now... what's it gonna be?"

His smile twisted.

"Take what you want by force... or sit here crying, being a bitch about it."

The moon... isn't it beautiful tonight, he thought, eyes lifting to the sky, glowing red and still.

A breeze swept through, carrying the scent of fear... and something else, faint, from a distance.

In front of him, the girl trembled-caught between choice and consequence.

But Scar?

He just smiled at the moon.

Because deep down, he already knew what she would choose.

Scar grinned, slipping his hands out of his pockets.

That night, he hadn't just created a wolf.

He'd created a servant.

Bound by instinct. Shackled by the moonlight.

And completely his.

He tilted his head slightly, eyes narrowing.

"Come to think of it... that was also the night," he muttered.

"The night Luna came back on the radar."

Scar's grin lingered as he stared into the night, the memory still fresh in his mind.

That was the night everything shifted.
