Chapter 153 - Should I Change the Original Plot? Is Obito Worth Saving?

Uchiha Kai was speechless.

Especially after seeing the last two rewards.

He cursed the system to hell and back until his throat was sore.

Seriously—just what kind of trash rewards were these?!

Sure, he hadn't asked for anything specific beyond a few must-haves, but he'd at least expected some lucky RNG. Instead? The system went full lazy mode, half-assing everything it could.

If he'd known it worked like this, he would've just asked for the complete power of the Sage of Six Paths to be dumped into his body.

Problem solved. Pain's Six Paths, Six Paths Madara, even Ōtsutsuki Kaguya—he could slap them all into next week with one hand.

Now? He could only regret wasting two whole reward slots.

Even asking for a way to break the Hyūga clan's Caged Bird Seal would've been more useful than this nonsense.

But regret was pointless.

The system had already ghosted him, and unless he earned more reward draws, it wasn't going to show its face again. If not for the binding rules forcing it to appear, Kai suspected it wouldn't even bother showing up for reward distribution.

"Damn bastard system," he muttered. "Fine. Forget it. At least the fixed three-skill rule saved me from total bankruptcy."

Grumbling, he sat up and pulled open the reward list.

[One Piece—Kaido's Physique]

A defensive ability. Grants invulnerability for 30 minutes. For 2 hours, the user can tank a full-strength attack from a super-Kage. After 5 hours, the buff fades. Usable 3 times per day.

[One Piece—Conqueror's Haki]

Overwhelms enemies with raw willpower.

Two levels weaker: instant unconsciousness.

One level weaker: complete suppression.

Equal level: opponent's power reduced by half.

Stronger than user: no effect.

[Prehistoric—Earth-Shrinking Golden Light]

Transforms the user into a golden streak of light. Max speed Mach 35. While in light form, all attacks are ignored. Usable 10 times per day.

Kai rubbed his temples.

Alright… pros and cons.

On one hand, these abilities were insanely powerful and didn't eat into his chakra or eye power—meaning he now had trump cards that could flip the board in an instant.

On the other hand… they were skills. Standalone techniques. They couldn't be trained or integrated into his core strength. They were like pulling skill cards from a gacha.

And that kind of reliance grated on him.

He sighed, flopped onto his cot, and stared at the tent ceiling. His combat ability had clearly spiked, but these gimmicky, band-aid rewards just left a sour taste.

Before long, fatigue won out. He drifted into sleep.

By dusk, Shisui shook him awake.

"Kai. Wake up."

Kai blinked groggily. "…Shisui? What's going on?"

Shisui exhaled, half helpless, half exasperated.

On the one hand, Kai was terrifyingly strong, and his strategic vision left everyone else choking on his dust. But on the other…

This was the front lines. And Kai was just napping in the middle of the day like it was a lazy Sunday.

"Lord Minato asked me to bring you," Shisui explained. "Our two squads are having a joint meeting. Since we'll be on a mission together in two days, he wants everyone familiar with each other."

Kai sat up, rubbing his neck. Ah. That made sense.

But then a thought flickered through his mind. In the original story, this mission had been left to Minato's team alone. And during that mission… Obito's fate was sealed.

Would Madara still make his move this time? Of course.

But now that Kai himself was in the picture, should he change Team Minato's fate?

He wasn't sure.

He had the strength. Against an aged Madara, he was confident he could at least fight to a draw. But Obito was the sticking point.

In the original timeline, Obito eventually gained full control over the Rinnegan. With Orochimaru's enhanced Edo Tensei, it wouldn't have been hard for him to get his hands on it earlier, either. Which meant—he could've revived Nohara Rin easily.

So why didn't he?

Kai's answer was simple: inferiority and cowardice.

Obito didn't dare let Rin see the monster he'd become.

In truth, Kai didn't think Obito had ever really loved Rin. She was just his unattainable "white moonlight," an ideal he clung to. Deep down, Obito knew Rin had never seen him that way.

So what was Kai supposed to do with someone like that?

Forget it. He'd deal with Obito when the time came.

"Alright," Kai said finally. "Got it. Let's go. No point keeping them waiting."

Stretching, he washed his face quickly and followed Shisui to Minato's tent.

Inside, the table was already laid out with food. Both squads were laughing, chatting, and enjoying themselves.

"Kai, come sit!" Minato waved with his usual bright smile.

Kai raised a brow, scanning the spread. "…Wait, we're on the front lines. Big Brother Minato, where'd you even get all this food?"

Minato pointed at himself, eyes narrowing playfully. "Did you forget, Kai-kun? I can use the Flying Thunder God."

Kai froze.

"…You—you used the village's most forbidden jutsu… for takeout?"

God. Actual god.

Slapping his forehead, Kai gave Minato a big thumbs-up.

"Big Brother Minato, you win. I'm convinced."
