Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Torch Sword Master, Digging a Pit and Burying a Hilichrul

Without a knife, he could only use a stone to cut, and after a great deal of effort, he finally processed the wild boar, dividing it into several parts.

He discarded the skin and some internal organs, then stewed half of the remaining meat and roasted the other half.

Jiang Yi faced the Hilichurl camps, eating while remaining vigilant, ready to flee at any moment.

Whenever he had time, he would dig the pit deeper and wider, pouring a few pots of water into it to turn it into a large water pit about one to two meters deep, large enough to hold a big brute.

Just like that, another day was spent.

Digging the pit replaced his training.

Jiang Yi also smashed several more stones, grinding them into blades, and tied them to wooden sticks with grass to make spears.

At night, a firelight appeared in the forest.

A red-furred Pyro Hilichurl saw Jiang Yi by the pond.

Without a word, he charged with a charged attack, swinging a blazing club, going forward without hesitation.

Fire Element burst forth, setting the leaves on the trees and the grass on the ground ablaze.

Jiang Yi turned and jumped into the water; how could the Pyro Hilichurl, a small Diluc, be a mere figure of speech?

This Aura, this power, was even more elite than an elite monster.

He was not afraid of blunt force, but he was still very afraid of burns from flames.

If he got hit by Fire Element, he would probably be in agony all night.

Stumbling, the Pyro Hilichurl stopped at the bank, staring menacingly at Jiang Yi in the water.

Jiang Yi returned to the stone in the center of the pond, picked up a spear, and threw one experimentally like a javelin.

It stuck firmly into the ground, causing the Pyro Hilichurl to retreat a few steps, circling the pond to find Jiang Yi's weakness.

After a two-hour standoff, the Pyro Hilichurl prepared to retreat. Jiang Yi yawned, and a spear struck the Hilichurl as he turned to run away.

"In reality, you can't just recover health by disengaging from combat!" Seeing the Hilichurl injured, Jiang Yi pressed his advantage, spearing him repeatedly.

The distance was too great to be fatal, but it inflicted quite a few injuries on the Pyro Hilichurl, who squatted angrily on the bank, roaring ineffectually.

Waving his torch, he ignited large fires all around him.

"It won't turn into a forest fire, will it?" Jiang Yi watched the growing fire and thick smoke, feeling a bit suffocated.

"Roar!" The Dvalin Dragon's roar, which he had occasionally heard for the past two days, rang out.

A hazy storm brought layers of dark clouds.

These days, the cloud cover above had been very thick, occasionally blocking the moonlight.

Now, however, it started to rain.

The torrential downpour directly extinguished the fire.

The Pyro Hilichurl held his extinguished club, continuously striking his flint.

"Four Winds, well done!" Jiang Yi realized that this was an opportunity not to be missed. He swam directly back to the bank, picked up a wooden stick, and started beating the Pyro Hilichurl.

Without the Fire Element to boost him, he was not much stronger than an ordinary Hilichurl Fighter.

Dragging him into the water made him even easier to deal with.

He successfully collected a new set of spoils: a mask and a flint.

Braving the heavy rain, he went to check on the trap.

It was seamless, just like an ordinary, shallow, watery small pit.

Holding the spear, he looked into the distance.

Jiang Yi made a bold move: he headed for the Hilichurl camp.

It was a dark and stormy night, perfect for killing brutes in the rain.

He wanted to attract agro and use the trap to kill the Wooden Shieldwall Mitachurl, so he wouldn't have to constantly worry about his surroundings.

He hadn't seen this Pyro Hilichurl before; was it because he was patrolling elsewhere, or had the Hilichurls received reinforcements?

That treasure chest...

Jiang Yi licked his lips; it might change his current predicament and enable him to travel to Mondstadt City.

He cautiously crept to the Hilichurl camp and peered from behind a tree.

A Wooden Shieldwall Mitachurl and a Hilichurl Shooter were hiding in the outpost shack, guarding the treasure chest and sleeping soundly.

In the clearing, there were only a few small Fire Slimes with dormant Fire Element, and enlarged Water Slimes bouncing around in a horned clay pot.

Those four horns just happened to trap them.

Jiang Yi tiptoed a little closer. The Slimes blinked, making a pleading expression.

Tears welled up in their eyes.

"Simple intelligence? This is too amazing."

Jiang Yi curiously poked these cute Elemental creatures with his spear.

The Water Slime burst a hole, and water gushed out, overflowing the clay pot.

No wonder he hadn't been disturbed for days by the pond.

Hilichurls didn't need to fetch water from rivers or lakes like humans.

They simply drank this water, which was harmful to humans but harmless to Hilichurls, and contained Elemental power.

Slimes, a great contribution!

He opened his mouth and ate a Berry he had just picked from the roadside. Jiang Yi took out a dozen small stones hidden in his pocket, ready to act.

His escape route was already determined.

He unleashed a rain of shattered stones on the Wooden-Shield Hilichurl Brute.

"Ye!" (You, a derogatory term)

"Ya!" (Human)

Provoked by the highly insulting challenge, the Wooden-Shield Hilichurl Brute and the Crossbow Hilichurl woke up with a start.

They roared angrily as they watched Jiang Yi turn and flee, almost disappearing into the rainy night forest.

Jiang Yi held a bunch of small lamp grass, using its faint, ghostly blue light for illumination, as he ran through the forest, which he had set with ten tripwires.

The Hilichurls gave chase, and several Crossbow Hilichurls immediately stumbled and fell.

In the pitch-black night, they couldn't aim their crossbows accurately either.

In the end, only the Wooden-Shield Hilichurl Brute charged headlong, tearing through the tripwires made of vines, branches, and grass.

He pursued relentlessly, following Jiang Yi for more than ten minutes.

Silver lightning struck the ground, illuminating a large area with a blinding white light.

Jiang Yi's bare skin became tough and rough; his feet no longer feared stones and thorns as he looked ahead.

On several large trees, marks had been carved with stones.

They surrounded the large water pit, which was two and a half meters deep.

Clutching the tree trunk, he agilely flew over the water pit like a monkey.

He rolled to a landing and turned to face the massive Wooden Shieldwall Mitachurl with thick bull horns and bulging muscles.

"Come on!"

He raised his middle finger and beckoned.

The Wooden Shieldwall Mitachurl fell for it!

Hilichurls were cursed, losing their intelligence and spirituality; most of them had low intelligence, like seven or eight-year-old children.

Once enraged, they paid no attention to what was underfoot.

"Biadam!" (Damn it, angry)

After shouting, he charged with his shield, like a Humvee driving in.

All obstacles were flattened.

Jiang Yi feigned fleeing, gripping his spear tightly.

Closer! Closer!

One, two, three... fall!

With a splash, the Wooden-Shield Hilichurl Brute fell into the pit, struggling underwater, holding his shield.

The spear thrust out.

Jiang Yi charged forward with all his might.

The Wooden-Shield Hilichurl Brute's muscles made him feel like he had stabbed a bull.

The spearhead broke clean off!

"Can't let him get up!"

He circled to the back, picked up a wooden stick, and as soon as the opponent surfaced, he struck him with the stick.

Bubbles rose gurgling.

Was it one minute, two minutes, three minutes?

The Wooden-Shield Hilichurl Brute lost its life.

The exaggerated, door-like greatshield lost its owner and dissipated as Grass element.

Jiang Yi sat on the ground, breathing heavily. No Crossbow Hilichurls came after him; they seemed to have gotten lost in the dark forest.

"Heh heh! Human wisdom!" With a slight sense of triumph, he returned to the stone island in the pond, hid in his tent, and painstakingly started a fire with the dry firewood he had saved inside.

He roasted himself, curled up, and slept.

The next day, the rain stopped. Jiang Yi ran back to the pit and pulled out the Wooden Shieldwall Mitachurl.

After defeating a monster, of course, you had to loot the corpse.
