Chapter 6 - “Soft Whispers Between Us”

The morning light spilled softly through my curtains.

For once, it felt calm. Peaceful. But my heart—still wasn't.

Taehyung's words from yesterday kept replaying in my head.

"Since the beginning of my memory… there's only you."

What did he mean by that? Why did it sound… true?

I sighed, rubbing my temples. Maybe I was just overthinking.

The knock on the door pulled me back.

I opened it—only to find him standing there, his expression casual but eyes, as usual, unreadable.

Taehyung: "You forgot your notebook yesterday."

He held it out.

I blinked. "You came all the way just to return this?"

Taehyung smirked faintly. "Maybe I wanted to see if you're alive after spacing out the whole day."

I frowned. "I wasn't spacing out."

He stepped closer. "You were. Even in class. Don't lie."

My pulse quickened. Why does he always sound like he can read me?

I turned away, muttering, "Thanks for the notebook. You can go now."

But before I could step back, his hand brushed against mine—light, unintentional, yet enough to send my thoughts scattering.

Silence. Then a quiet laugh escaped him.

Taehyung: "Still flustered that easily?"

Jungkook: "No."

Taehyung: "Sure."

He moved past me, eyes scanning my table.

There was a small cut on my wrist—probably from last night when I'd dropped a glass. He noticed immediately.

Taehyung (softly): "You should be careful."

He reached out, his thumb grazing near the cut. His touch was feather-light but it burned.

Jungkook (whispering): "Stop… I can handle it."

Taehyung (quiet smile): "I know you can. But still."

He found a band-aid on the desk and wrapped it around my wrist with a gentleness I didn't expect.

My chest tightened.

He shouldn't look at me like that—with those eyes that seem to remember something I can't.

Before I could say anything, he straightened up, looking out the window.

Taehyung: "Strange, isn't it? Sometimes I feel like I've done this before."

Jungkook: "What?"

Taehyung: "Taking care of you."

The room fell silent. His tone was too calm, too real.

I forced a laugh. "You probably saw it in a dream or something."

He glanced at me, eyes lingering.

Taehyung: "Maybe I did. Or maybe dreams are just memories we've already lived."

His words lingered even after he left.

(Later – Campus Café)

Jimin plopped down next to me, grinning. "You and Taehyung have been acting weird lately. Something I should know?"

I shot him a glare. "No. Stop imagining things."

Suga joined in, sipping his coffee. "Hmm. Denial is the first step, Jungkook."

I groaned. "You two are impossible."

Across the café, Taehyung leaned against the counter, eyes briefly meeting mine.

That same faint smile.

I quickly looked away, pretending to scroll my phone.

But the truth was… my heart wasn't listening.

There was something about him—his gaze, his voice, the way he said my name—that made me feel like the past was whispering something I couldn't hear clearly yet.

---

(Night – Jungkook's Room)

I sat by the window, staring at the quiet sky.

A breeze slipped in, cool and gentle.

Somewhere far away, a faint memory flickered—someone calling my name the same way Taehyung does.

Jungkook (whispering):

"Who are you, really, Taehyung?"

The wind didn't answer, but I could almost hear a voice—soft, familiar—echo in my head.

"I told you… I never forgot you."

My heart skipped a beat.

Maybe this isn't just the beginning.

Maybe it's a story that started long before I ever knew.

The rain had stopped, but the ground still glistened under the streetlights.

Jungkook walked alone toward the dorm, his shoes splashing quietly through puddles.

Taehyung's words wouldn't leave his mind — "Even if I forget the world, I remember you."

"Why does it sound like he's hiding something?" he murmured.

At the corner, he spotted Taehyung standing under a tree, looking up at the night sky.

Without thinking, Jungkook called out, "You're following me again?"

Taehyung turned slowly, a faint smile on his lips.

"Maybe I'm just protecting you again."

Jungkook sighed. "From what? Cars? Or from you?"

That made Taehyung go silent. His eyes darkened for a moment — not with anger, but pain.

"Jungkook…" he said softly, "there are things you've forgotten."

Jungkook frowned. "Forgotten? What are you talking about?"

Before Taehyung could answer, thunder cracked overhead. The sudden sound made Jungkook flinch — and instinctively, Taehyung pulled him closer.

Their faces were inches apart. Jungkook could feel his heartbeat racing against Taehyung's chest.

"Why do you keep doing that?" he whispered.

Taehyung smiled sadly. "Because once… I couldn't save you."

The words froze Jungkook in place.

"What do you mean by 'once'?" he asked, but Taehyung just looked away.

"Forget it. You're safe now. That's what matters."

He turned to leave, but Jungkook grabbed his wrist.

"Taehyung, wait. Tell me—what happened before?"

Taehyung met his gaze — eyes filled with something ancient, something that didn't belong to this lifetime.

"If I tell you," he said quietly, "everything will change."

And then he walked away, leaving Jungkook standing in the rain once more — his heart pounding with a fear he couldn't name.

---Author's Note:

Hey everyone,

I wasn't feeling well these past days, so I couldn't write much. But honestly, it also hurts a bit that I haven't received even one comment. Maybe my story isn't that good, I don't know.

If you're still reading, please leave even a small comment—it really means a lot. 💜

If not, it's okay. I just wanted to be honest with you.
