Chapter 75 - Chatting and Laughing

Lux never dreamed that one day she would be chatting and laughing with a god—she even less expected that the god she was chatting and laughing with was currently standing on her shoulder.

That's right, Janna was that blue bird; although she had been holding the fruit-bearing branch in her beak, the wind would carry her voice to Lux's ears.

According to Klein, Janna could not directly contact his current body, so Lux needed to act as a mouthpiece between the two of them.

Thus, after several months, Lux once again performed simultaneous interpretation.

"Long time no see, little blue bird." Ever since Lux met Klein, he had never spoken in such a pleasant and relaxed tone. "You're still in Vazuan, that's truly wonderful..."

"Mr. Klein." To Lux's surprise, this Wind God showed great respect for Klein. "That's what I should be saying... It's truly wonderful to see you again."

"Ahaha, don't be so formal, Janna." Klein seemed very unaccustomed to the honorific "you." "We're all old friends. I'm not the Ascended commander responsible for 'eliminating false idols,' and the glory and splendor of the Shurima Empire have long been buried in the yellow sands—I'm just a miserable Darkin now, with my useless student, plotting my comeback."

"Then you can definitely do it." Janna showed astonishing trust in Klein. "This time, have you chosen Zaun?"

"...If you keep using 'you,' then this conversation can't continue." Klein sighed helplessly. "I already said, I'm just a miserable Darkin..."

"We all know that what happened in Icathia wasn't your—your problem." Janna reluctantly corrected herself. "Although I haven't been to Icathia, I believe you wouldn't force those people as rumored."

"Perhaps I didn't do anything, but being in that position, not doing anything is still doing something." Klein didn't dwell on this issue but changed the subject. "You still kept that branch from back then... That's great. My experiments in the North have almost all failed, Janna. What you've kept might be my last results."

"I didn't keep this branch." Hearing Klein say this, Janna flapped her wings a few times, a little embarrassed. "Kallikan planted it—unfortunately, after he left, he sealed Vazuan's laboratory, and I could only get this one branch that grew outside the wall."

"You mean there's at least one more tree here!" Klein exclaimed excitedly upon hearing this. "Kallikan... that brat actually has some conscience. Besides giving his teacher nicknames, he's still somewhat useful after all!"

"Hahahahahahaha." Hearing Klein say this, Janna let out a clear, wind-chime-like laugh. "Kallikan stayed here for a whole century back then. That guy often mentioned you—"

"Alright, you don't need to repeat all the bad things he said about me." Klein hurriedly skipped over the topic. "Where's his laboratory? Can we go see it now?"

"His laboratory, due to previous geological movements, is already more than half buried underground." Janna didn't delve further into the topic but obediently answered Klein's question. "However, if you—or rather, your student—wants to go, it's probably not possible right now."

"The laboratory collapsed?"

"The passage to the laboratory's main door collapsed." Janna said helplessly. "To get in, you need to clear the passage first. Although the passage isn't too long, it will take some effort."

"It's good that it can be cleared." Klein finally let out a breath. "As long as we find the laboratory Kallikan left behind, everything will be much easier to talk about—thank you, Janna, thank you for always protecting Zaun..."

"That's what I should be saying, Mr. Klein." Janna shook her head, refusing Klein's thanks. "I should thank you. If it weren't for your help back then, I would have probably been destroyed under the Twilight God's iron fist—"

"Let's not talk about the past. After the Aramusia War, how is the situation in Vazuan?"

"How to put it... It was quite spectacular, I suppose. You saw it, the canal was finally built."

"..."

"..."

The amount of information in Klein and Janna's conversation was astonishing, so much so that at first, Lux was still trying to think, but later she completely became an emotionless simultaneous interpretation machine—they knew what each other was saying, but Lux had no idea what they were talking about. She didn't know a single name, whether it was a person, place, or event.

Under such circumstances where she knew nothing, yet had to forcibly think about the cause and effect, Lux soon began to feel muddled.

But there was one thing she understood—the upcoming social investigation in Zaun could be skipped. Janna's wind would bring her countless messages.

......

Eventually, Lux, like an old man carrying a bird in a cage, returned to The Last Drop with Janna, holding a small pinwheel.

No one knew that the one she was carrying on her shoulder was actually Zaun's Guardian.

Then, just as she arrived at the tavern's entrance, she saw several fully armed Piltover Enforcers with filters surrounding the entire tavern.

This time, the team leader wasn't the dark-skinned Miss Grayson, but Marcus.

"Isn't Marcus a rookie Enforcer?" Watching Marcus lead a group of people angrily into the tavern, Lux raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Looking at him, I thought he was a newcomer..."

"If Marcus knew that his caution and restraint when facing mages made him appear as a rookie in the eyes of a fourteen-year-old child, he would be very sad." Klein complained heartlessly. "However, it seems Marcus and Vander don't get along very well."

"It would be strange if they did get along..." Lux shook her head. "Marcus clearly wants to capture those four children and take them back to Piltover for Judgment—and Vander will absolutely not allow that."

"So, how do you think this matter should end better?" Klein asked. "Send those four children to Piltover? Or let Zaun handle it?"

"To be honest, I hope those four children can realize their own problems." Lux sighed upon hearing this. "But handing them over to Piltover won't teach them any lessons; it might even cause more trouble."

"That's the problem." Klein sighed with emotion. "If this matter isn't handled well, it's very likely to cause huge trouble—however, I actually think Vander might have some ideas?"

As they spoke, Lux pushed open the door of The Last Drop and, without any hesitation, walked towards her temporary residence in front of everyone.

She chose her timing well. Marcus and the Piltover Enforcers behind him were confronting Vander and the tavern's customers. At the moment the atmosphere was incredibly tense, Lux and Ino walked past them as if no one else was there, causing the two opposing groups to reluctantly ease their tension.

"Miss Lux?" Watching Lux and Ino walk past, Marcus nervously reached for his weapon. "Why are you here?"

"Me?" Lux blinked. "I'm staying here temporarily!"

???

Marcus was utterly confused—he clearly couldn't understand why someone would choose not to stay in the high-class hotel at Blue Haze Manor and instead come to dirty Zaun.

Did she run out of money?

No, Marcus remembered that Grayson had given them a large bounty before!

Could there be some conspiracy here?
