Chapter 5 - THE DIFFERENCE

The airport buzzed with activities.

Commercial airliners roared down the runway, taking off and landing with precision, while passengers streamed through security checkpoints and gates.

Edna and her sister, sat in the luxurious private lounge, a relaxed spot just the two of them. The lounge was reserved for VIPs and those with access to exclusive aircraft, like their father's private jet. Soft music played in the background, and the scent of freshly brewed coffee wafted through the air.

Inside the cozy lounge, the modern design featured expensive leather sofas, polished marble floors, and floor-to-ceiling windows that offered a stunning view of the tarmac. A discreet attendant moved silently, refilling drinks and offering canapes to the handful of guests.

Beyond the lounge's glass walls, the sounds of the airport created a constant hum – the rumble of engines, the chatter of passengers, and the wail of sirens in the distance. But inside, the atmosphere was refined and subdued, a testament to the exclusivity of this private world.

Life is truly beautiful when you are seated in money.

Edna had decided to leave the state, seeking a fresh start after the confrontation with Mike…

She waited for her father's jet to arrive, she gazed out the window, watching as ground crew members bustled around the aircraft, performing final checks and preparations for departure.

She sat calmly, her younger sister beside her, offering words of comfort.

"Don't tell me you're crying again Eddie, you'll find someone who truly loves and respects whatever decision you make. Someone who won't take advantage of your kindness," She said, her voice soft and reassuring.

As they waited, Ada continued to console her, sharing stories of strong women who'd overcome similar challenges. Edna was not listening at all, her expression a mix of sadness and determination.

The sound system crackled to life, and a melodic voice announced, "Attention, VIP guests. Plane N7001JT has landed and is taxiing to the private terminal. Plane N965DB, please proceed to Gate 3 for boarding. And Plane N508AF, your aircraft is ready for departure."

Edna's ears perked up as she heard the announcement she was waiting for: Plane N7001JT .

She exchanged a glance with her sister, and they both stood up, her sister helped her with her belongings.

With a sense of purpose, they walked towards Gate 5. As they approached the gate, the stylish, black plane with their family crest came into view, its engines purring softly. A tall muscular young man; smartly dressed stood at the bottom of the stairs, smiling warmly as they approached.

"Welcome aboard, ladies," he said, stepping aside to let them enter the plane.

"Actually, handsome, it's just me flying today. I'm your only passenger," Edna said with a hint of a smile. The flight attendant nodded, giving her a warm smile in response. "Very well, my lady. In that case, I'll take your luggage from here and prepare for departure."

As the attendant gathered Edna's belongings, Edna turned to her sister and wrapped her arms around her in a tight hug. "Take care of yourself Eddie, and don't forget to call me as soon as you arrive," her sister whispered, her voice filled with affection. Edna nodded, kissed her sister's cheek, a gentle goodbye gesture, before releasing her and stepping back to board the plane.

The jet's interior was a masterclass in understated luxury. The cabin's spacious layout and sleek, modern amenities were a familiar sight, one that Edna had grown accustomed to over the years, given her frequent travels on her father's jet.

As she made her way to the cockpit, the pilot looked up and greeted her with a warm smile. "Good morning, Miss Edna. All set for departure." Edna returned his greeting,... Hello, well I won't be seated next to you today..they both smiled exchanging a brief conversation before she went to take her seat.

The flight attendant approached, inquiring about her needs, and Edna requested a shot of whiskey. The attendant nodded and prepared her drink, a routine that seemed almost second nature to both of them.

As the engines roared to life, the plane began its smooth rollout down the runway, gradually picking up speed. The force pushed Edna gently back into her seat as the jet lifted off the ground, soaring into the sky.

With the jet cruising at altitude, Edna turned to the flight attendant, her voice smooth and relaxed. "More whiskey, please. Another double shot." The flight attendant nodded, unfazed by the request, and without questions he poured another generous measure into her glass. "Right away, Miss Edna," he said, handing her the drink with a courteous smile before he left.

Just 30 minutes later she gestured him to come over.

Edna wrapped her fingers around his tie like a vice. She dragged him closer, her eyes blazing with an intensity that made the his heart skip a beat. The young man surprise quickly turned to alarm as he realized her words were slurred and her movements unsteady.

As she continued to question him…

"Am I not pretty?"

He tried to escape, but her grip on his tie remained firm. "Miss Edna, stop! I'm begging you, in God's name..." he pleaded, his voice rising in distress. But she wouldn't let go, her fingers knotted in the tie as if it was a lifeline. She kissed him somehow the kiss awoken his male member.

She felt it… his male member was erected.

"Oh, come on; you're already on for me"

… "Stop this madness this instant" , he said to her.

With a surge of strength, he managed to break free from her grip, the tie slipping loose from her fingers. He stumbled backward, his eyes fixed on her with a mix of concern, and stood frozen, his chest heaving slightly as he caught his breath. For a moment, the two of them locked gazes, the tension between them cold, before he seemed to regain his composure and took a cautious step back, creating some distance between them.

He rushed to her side as she vomited, his expression a mix of concern and care. Guiding her gently to the nearby convenience area, he helped her clean up, his movements calm and efficient. She was visibly disheveled, her face pale and clammy.

After helping her clean up, he got a bottle of water and some pills from the jet's medical kit and handed her a couple of tablets.

"Take these," he said gently, ... "They'll help with the headache and nausea." He calmly took her hand, resting it in his, offering reassurance.

Noticing her discomfort, he adjusted the jet seat to a more comfortable position, carefully reclining it to support her. "Better?" he asked, his voice low and soothing.

......

Mike swiftly called his driver to prepare the car, his voice was clear. Gathering his essentials – his laptop and the documents on the floor– he tucked them securely into his briefcase. With a sense of purpose, he headed to the elevator, the security team stationed outside his floor nodding in recognition as they opened the doors for him.

As he stepped out into the lobby, Mike's eyes scanned the area briefly before his gaze settled on the entrance. He walked smoothly, his stride confident, and made his way outside. There, he waited for his driver to bring the car around from the garage to the front of the building. The driver pulled up promptly, and Mike slid into the backseat as the car drove off.

As he headed to his hotel room, Mike had already called his butler to inform him of his arrival and the expected guest. Upon arriving at the hotel, he spotted the businessman waiting for him at the reception. After a brief greeting, Mike called down to his butler to bring up his briefcase.

The butler arrived promptly, collected the briefcase, and then accompanied Mike and the businessman to the hotel suite. Once settled, they made their way to the bar area, where Mike offered his guest a drink. As they sat down, the atmosphere shifted to one of focused discussion, with business matters taking center stage.

"Let's get started," Mike said, signaling the butler to pour them a drink. The butler discreetly stepped back, allowing the two men to delve into their discussion, the soft hum of the hotel suite's ambiance providing a subtle backdrop to their negotiations.

The businessman leaned forward, his eyes shining with enthusiasm. "Mr Mike, I have to say, I'm extremely impressed with the proposal Miss Anabel presented to me. I think this could be a game-changer for your company."

Mike smiled, pleased that his team's work was being well-received. "I'm glad to hear that. We're confident that our collaboration can yield significant results."

The businessman nodded. "I'm ready to move forward. Let's discuss the terms of our partnership. What kind of compensation are you looking for?"

Mike leaned back in his chair. "We're looking for a 70% share of the profits from all ventures that come out of this partnership."

The businessman's expression turned thoughtful.

"75% , so what do I have left? You mean you are giving me 25%?"

Mike shook his head. "I understand your concerns, but 25% is better. I'll be handling all the logistics, marketing, investment and distribution. I'll need to retain a significant portion of the profits to reinvest in the project."

The two men engaged in a back-and-forth negotiation, discussing the finer points of their potential partnership. After some deliberation, they reached mutually agreeable terms.

With the terms settled, they proceeded to sign the necessary documents, formalizing their partnership. As they shook hands, Mike felt a sense of satisfaction. This partnership had the potential to be highly lucrative, and he was confident that his team's expertise would drive success.

......

The flight attendant's attentive care paid off, as Edna slept peacefully for most of the one-hour-and-thirty-minute journey, thanks to the medication's effect. Right on schedule, the jet touched down at the airport, and the attendant gently woke Edna.

"We've arrived, Miss Edna," he said softly. "Would you like me to arrange a ride for you?" Edna shook her head, already reaching for her phone. "No, thank you. I'll take care of it."

With a bit of effort, she managed to dial her driver's number and arranged for a pickup. Though her words were slightly slurred, her driver assured her he'd be there soon. The attendant watched over her, offering words of encouragement as Edna struggled to stay coherent.

As she disembarked, the attendant provided support, guiding her to the private lounge where she could wait comfortably for her ride. "You'll be fine, Miss Edna," he said reassuringly. "Just sit back and rest." Edna nodded, sinking into a plush seat, grateful for the attendant's care

MIKE'S CAME BACK TO THE OFFICE .

As Mike's chauffeur pulled up to the office building, Mike gazed out the window, his eyes scanning the street. Just as they were about to park in front of the office building, where Mike would disembark before the chauffeur took the car to the garage, Mike's attention was caught by Anabel.

Anabel was stepping into a taxi. Mike's mind flashed back to their previous encounter, and he felt a sudden urge to reach out to her. 'Should he call her, or would a personal visit be better?'...The debate raged in his head as he watched the taxi pull away.

Shaking off the thoughts, Mike focused on the present and stepped out of the car onto the sidewalk. He nodded to his chauffeur, who would take care of parking the vehicle.

As Mike entered the office building, straight to his office.

Once at his desk, he tried to immerse himself in work, but his mind kept drifting back to Anabel.

He wondered how she was doing, if she had processed everything that had happened and was really mad with him. The more he thought about it, the more he felt an inexplicable pull towards her.

"Shit"... He muttered under his breath.

For now, though, work would have to take precedence. Mike took a deep breath and focused on the tasks at hand, and tried pushing the thoughts of Anabel to the back of his mind, at least for the time being.

 ....….

Annabelle sat in the backseat of the taxi, phone pressed to her ear. "Yes, the payment is ready. I'll be there in a few minutes to pick up my car," she said to the mechanic.

She glanced at her watch, eager to get her vehicle back on the road. As the taxi pulled up to the mechanic shop, Anabel paid the driver.

"Keep the change," she said with a smile, stepping out onto the pavement. The driver was thankful and drove off.

The mechanic shop was a small, littered place, with various car parts and tools scattered about. A young man, likely an apprentice, was working on a car engine, trying to couple some parts together.

The owner of the mechanic shop was busy giving him directives. On seeing Anabel, he greeted her warmly. "Good evening, madam. Come on in, please. Have a seat, and we'll get your car ready for you in no time," the man said, gesturing toward the reception area.

Anabel sighed, a hint of frustration in her voice.

"Come on, for how many weeks now? I'm starting to think I'll never get my car back," she said, raising an eyebrow.

The man chuckled and smiled reassuringly.

"Please, madam. Just hold on. Your car will be ready soon. I promise." Anabel nodded, though she wasn't entirely convinced and didn't want to wait for long. She took a seat in the reception area, flipping through her phone to pass the time.

A young man entered the reception, and the mechanic owner welcomed him with a familiar tone. "You're welcome, sir. Please come with me; your car is ready to go home with you." When Anabel heard him, she raised her face, saying, "Oh, his car is ready to go home, and mine is what?..."

While she was still talking, the young man's eyes were fixed on her, like someone trying to remember something. Then, he called her name. "Anabel, Anabel, is that truly you? Oh my god, it's you!"

Anabel was surprised and tried to figure out who he was.

"Sorry, do I know you?" she asked.

"Come on, Anabel, I can't forget you – not that name," he said. "You may not remember me, but I was the doctor for your friend's surgery. What's her name again?" He raised his finger, ticking left and right to remember the name which was closer but a bit unclear. "Aha, Lola... Lalo…no, Lolo."

"Oh, I remember; the doctor from St. Louis Hospital, right?" Anabel said.

"That's correct," he replied.

As Anabel's memory clicked into place, the doctor's gaze lingered on her face, taking in her beauty. Before he could say anything, the mechanic interrupted,

"Sir, your car is ready. You can pick it up now."

The doctor turned to the mechanic and asked,

"What about her car? What's taking so long?"

The mechanic reassured him, "Madam's car will be ready soon, just a few more minutes."

The doctor nodded and then turned to Anabel. "I'd like to wait for you, if that's okay," he said, sitting down beside her.

"Yeah, it's okay," she replied.

"I will have to get back to work then"…the mechanic said and left them.

They started chatting, exchanging small talk as they waited.

He asked about Lolo, and Anabel replied,

"Uhh, Lolo is fine. She's been really helpful and she's doing well."

Their conversation flowed easily with laughter, and before long, about 45 minutes had passed.

The mechanic's apprentice walked into the reception area where they were seated and focused on Anabel. "Madam, your car's all fixed," he said with a smile.

Anabel and the doctor exchanged a look and then stood up at the same time.

The young apprentice went outside, and Anabel and the doctor followed behind him to the parking area.

The mechanic told her to start the engine, and Anabel got into her car, satisfied with the sound of the engine.

She thanked the mechanic and he apologized for the delay and the inconvenience.

Anabel turned to the doctor and asked about his car. He smiled, saying, "I don't need to check it. I've been bringing my cars to this mechanic for five years, and I trust him completely."

"Hmm, that's interesting", she said.

As she prepared to leave, the doctor hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to ask her out. Without thinking, the words tumbled out: "Can we catch up, maybe later?" He sounded a bit awkward, but his eyes sparkled with hope.

Anabel smiled, pulled out her business card from her bag, and handed it to him. "This is where I work. I have free time in the afternoons, so feel free to reach out."

With that, Anabel got into her car and drove off, leaving the doctor standing there with a smile, looking at the card she had given him.
