Chapter 1 - Meeting a not so familiar face

Kara Zor-El chugged down her beer mug sitting in the corner of the energetic bar with alien music playing. It had a nice low tune to it. Nothing beats getting drunk and having the time of your life. Drawing out all the sorrows and misery.

How long has she been at it? Who knows. But she couldn't necessarily care less at this moment. Her days were spent helping Kal and his little buddies on Earth from time to time. They were quite nice to be with. Maybe not the smart one. He seems to have a stick up his ass.

Wait, how did she come here again?

The woman of steel looked puzzled at her drink in confusion for a bit then remembered that she used her space pod. The little thing could travel a distance. She hates how cramped it was but she managed to make it work. Luckily she had Krypto with her who was always such a good boy. The dog was lying at her feet resting. The two had a great evening or morning. She couldn't tell.

Day and night here were longer compared to Earth and some planets.

Then someone walked in. Kara had been here long enough to know that the residents of the planet all looked alike with their metallic-like skin and blue hair which seemed out of place. But this person, a woman, looked human. She didn't belong to her. Just like Kara. But she couldn't help but notice the clothes. The shirt, pants, and jacket she obviously took from a poor resident were clear. She caught sight of a blue skin-tight suit underneath the clothes. The way the dark brunette surveyed the area to look for any hostile threats made it clear this was her first time on any planet. Whether this was an earthling or some other alien she didn't know.

Those eyes.

Kara could tell they were on alert. She watched as a pair of drunks walked over to her. They chatted her up then the next moment they were on the floor with a broken nose. She snorted but missed how the brunette winced in pain from punching him. Paying them no mind she sat at the bar table. And the last daughter of Krypton made her way. After such a display made her laugh. She owed the strange visitor a drink.

"Get her what I'm having," She placed down the coin, giving it to the bartender who nodded. Kara turned to the dark brunette and gave a smile but more clumsy. As if smiling more would make her fall to the side. "That was awesome," She blurted out, jabbing a finger at the man still on the floor. "The way he didn't see it coming was so cool," She lightly giggled, her words barely coming out.

The dark brunette looked at her weirdly, her eyes trailing down then widened seeing the house of El on her chest. But she didn't say anything about that

"They were drunk," She said and Kara smiled even more, having gotten her to talk. "Plus I've already dealt with one charmer to last a lifetime." Her drink was placed by the barkeeper and she took it. She smelled it and grimaced.

"Don't like it?" Kara tilted her head.

"Not much of a drinker where I am from but thank you, Miss?" She brought the mug toward her lips, the stench of the alcohol stronger.

"Kara Zor-El. Supergirl!" She proudly proclaimed, "My big ol' boy scout of a cuz gave me that stupid name in one of his articles. Freaking nerd."

At the mention of the name the dark brunette's eyes widened and she stared at the blonde woman before her.

"You're Kara Zor-El?" She asked slowly, getting a nod from her.

"Yeah! Do you know me from somewhere? Pretty sure everyone I know and love, outside of Kal, are dead." Her eyes lowered and her excitement seemed to be replaced with sadness. "I'm all alone."

The dark-headed woman seemed to share that pain with Kara.

"I lost everyone I know as well. Especially my little cousin whom I could not save," She spoke out. It still stuck with her from what Zodd had said.

"I'm sorry," Kara said looking at her, tears beginning to form.

The mysterious woman didn't say much and downed her drink in one setting. Kara looked shocked when the woman finished it and put it down. She let out a breath and licked her lips at the almost copper taste. Kara saw the look in her eyes. The eyes she has every morning when she has a dream of her parents. Of home. The eyes of someone who has lost everything dear to them and is looking for a reason to lash out. Or drink away their problems.

"Here's to us and being depressed," She held out her mug. For a moment she thought that the woman wouldn't indulge but after another second their mug clanked and the woman smiled looking into her eyes.

Polar opposites. Blue to brown. Blonde to black.
