Chapter-6: New Bonds in the Wild
The morning sun pierced through the thick jungle canopy, sending golden rays dancing across the forest floor. Gentle mist still floated through the air as tiny drops of dew sparkled on the ferns and moss like scattered crystals.
One by one, Abhimanyu and the others stretched their aching bodies and stepped out of the cave. Although they were still sore from the previous days, everyone felt relieved to have survived another night.
"Ahhh..." Ravi groaned, cracking his neck. "That cave was softer than my hostel bed."
Aarav smirked."That's because you were sleeping on Samar's jacket."
Samar's eyes widened."My jacket?" he shouted. "I was freezing to death the whole night because of you!"
Without waiting another second, he charged toward Ravi.
"You thief! Come back here!"
Aarav burst into laughter as Ravi ran around the cave while Samar chased him with a raised stick.
The noise woke several people who had still been asleep.
"W-What's happening?" Aditya asked, rubbing his eyes.
Ravi quickly hid behind Abhimanyu."Samar found out I borrowed his jacket."
"Borrowed?" Samar shouted. "You stole it!"
The sleepy faces quickly turned into smiling ones. Soon, the entire cave echoed with laughter.
Karan stretched both arms toward the ceiling of the cave and let out a long yawn.
"Huuuuuuhhh..."
He cleared his throat dramatically before speaking.
"Good morning, everyone! And many, many congratulations on surviving our very first night alive in another world!"
The group stared at him.
Some laughed.
Some rolled their eyes.
Nikita folded her arms and glared at him."Shut up and get out."
Karan immediately froze,"...Yes, ma'am."
Everyone burst into laughter again.
Trying to act innocent, Karan slowly walked toward the cave entrance while quietly blowing tiny whistles.
Nikita became even more annoyed.
"You!"
She grabbed a small stone and threw it toward him.
Karan dodged it with a yelp and hurried outside.
The laughter grew even louder.
For a brief moment, everyone forgot where they were.
After washing their faces in a nearby stream and eating a few fruits for breakfast, the group prepared to continue their journey.
Leonard adjusted the straps of the temporary backpack they had made before looking at Abhimanyu.
"Ready?"
Abhimanyu nodded,"As ready as we'll ever be."
Aditya stretched his muscular arms.
"I just hope today doesn't involve running from another giant monster."
Riya laughed.
"Knowing our luck, we'll probably find two."
"Please don't jinx it," Dev sighed.
The group smiled before continuing deeper into the jungle.
Over the next few hours, they collected strange fruits and gathered dry branches for firewood before continuing onward.
Days quietly passed.
One day became two.
Two became three.
Then four.
Then five.
Surprisingly, during those five days, they didn't encounter a single monster during daylight.
Every morning they explored the endless jungle.
Every evening they searched for a safe place to rest.
They cooked whatever fruits and edible plants they found and kept watch through the night.
Although the fear never completely disappeared, they slowly began adapting to this strange world.
On the sixth day, the group continued walking beneath the towering trees.
Aanya walked beside Abhimanyu. Several times she glanced toward him.Each time, she wanted to say something...But every time she quietly looked away.
A few steps ahead, Meera calmly admired the strange plants growing along the path.
Behind them, Riya suddenly stopped.
"Eww!"
She lifted one foot into the air.
A thick purple mud had completely covered her sandal.
"I told you to watch your step!" Ishita groaned.
"It looked like a flower!" Riya defended herself."A deadly flower, maybe..."
"...but it was still a flower."
Everyone chuckled.
As the path curved around a cluster of giant trees, voices suddenly drifted through the forest.
Not beastly growls. Not rustling leaves. Human voices.
Nikita stopped walking,"...Was that laughter?"
The entire group immediately became alert. They carefully moved forward. Soon, they reached a small clearing.
Five young people were sitting on large rocks, eating fruits while arguing loudly over something.
The moment they noticed Abhimanyu's group...Their eyes lit up.
"Hey!" one of the boys shouted excitedly.
"More survivors!", The two boys immediately stood up.
One of them had messy dark hair and a lazy grin.
He waved enthusiastically.
"I'm Javier," he said in a cheerful Spanish accent.
"And this is Mateo."
"You have no idea how happy we are to see normal people."
Mateo, who was slightly shorter but had sharp eyes, smiled.
"You guys look like you've been through a lot."
"You don't want to know," Dev muttered with a tired sigh.
Then the three girls stood up.
Two of them had elegant features and flawless skin.
One had silver-dyed hair.
The other wore glasses and carried a gentle smile.
"I'm Hana," the silver-haired girl introduced herself.
"And she's Yuna."
"We're cousins from Seoul."
She quickly added,
"But we're not snobs."
Yuna laughed.
"You really had to clarify that first?"
Everyone smiled.
The third girl stepped forward.
She was tall, with short black hair and confident eyes.
"I'm Li Wei."
"My father owns half the airlines in China."
She folded her arms confidently.
"But don't worry."
"I'm not spoiled."
"I've climbed more mountains than some of you have climbed stairs."
Riya let out a whistle.
"Rich girls with attitude."
"I like you already."
Soon introductions flowed naturally.
But... Both groups stood silently, studying each other. No one lowered their guard until Javier slowly raised both hands and smiled.
"Relax. If we wanted to attack you, we'd have done it already."
Others nodded
Everyone exchanged names.
Stories followed.
Some talked about hiding from strange beasts.
Others shared stories of poisonous-looking fruits.
Javier proudly explained how Mateo had screamed after a tiny frog jumped onto his face.
"It jumped at me!", Mateo defended himself, "It came out of nowhere!"
Aarav laughed.
"At least it wasn't a snake."
Karan pointed toward Manan.
"This genius tried to kick one."
"...and tripped over his own leg."
"I was testing its reflexes," Manan muttered, trying to save his dignity.
The entire group laughed once again.
For the first time in many days...
The jungle didn't feel quite so frightening.
As everyone continued walking together, the forest somehow seemed brighter.The trees no longer felt as oppressive.The path seemed a little easier.The silence no longer felt lonely.
Li Wei looked around before quietly speaking.
"You know...maybe we're not just lost."
Abhimanyu looked at her,"What do you mean?"
She smiled faintly.
"Maybe..."
"...we were meant to come here."
"For something bigger."
Nobody answered for a few moments...
Everyone simply walked in silence, thinking about her words.
Then Javier suddenly tossed a fruit at Li Wei.
"Hey!"
"Stop acting like some wise philosopher."
Li Wie caught the fruit.
"Says the guy who can't tell poison berries from snacks."
Laughter once again echoed throughout the jungle.
Strangers...Had slowly become companions.The journey ahead was still filled with danger.But now...No one had to face it alone.
Far away...
Deep within the endless forest...A pair of crimson lights slowly opened in the darkness.
They watched the group silently.
Blink.
Blink.
Then...
They vanished.
As if whatever owned those eyes had already chosen its prey.
