Chapter 3 - Treasure

This is true: the Chris family has a Devil Fruit.

It is a Logia-type Devil Fruit.

After learning this, Lucifer's head was buzzing.

But this was not any Logia Devil Fruit he knew.

It was an earth-yellow fruit, wrapped in spiral, snailshell-like patterns, looking like a rock.

When Lucifer first saw this Devil Fruit at four years old, he already knew what kind of existence it was.

A Logia-type Devil Fruit—the Earth Fruit!

That's right, the uppermost earth element Devil Fruit that had never appeared before—the Earth Fruit!

However, Lucifer did not dare touch the fruit immediately.

Though loved by everyone in his family from childhood as a genius, this well-guarded fruit was no ordinary item.

If he ate it, it could turn the whole house upside down.

Along with the discovery of the Devil Fruit, Lucifer also found a sword in the family's secret chamber: a katana.

This katana was a rare straight blade.

Its sheath and hilt were made of solid wood, without a guard.

From hardness and material, it appeared crafted from the core wood of the Adam tree.

When sheathed, the entire sword looked like a wooden staff, similar to the cane-sword used by Fujitora.

But Fujitora's sword was darker in color, while the one Lucifer found was pale, resembling ivory more than wood.

Lucifer liked this sword very much.

He researched family records about it.

The records said this sword wasn't simple—it was very old, belonging to the "21 Great Katanas," one of the great longswords: Star Sea!

As the name suggests, the blade was as brilliant as the starry sea!

The blade's edge was serrated like flower petals, with the pattern of a Taisho T-shaped weave, shining brightly like the moon.

The blade was dotted with twinkling starlight, which is why it was named Star Sea!

Star Sea was so ancient that no one in this era could forge such a blade anymore—not even the master craftsmen from Wano.

It wasn't that Lucifer looked down on Wano's smiths.

The creation of a famous sword required more than just forging skill.

Many factors were involved, so in modern times it was impossible to craft a blade like Star Sea's workmanship.

Even if someone forged one that looked similar, it was soulless.

Without a soul, it could never become a famous sword, no matter how much a great swordsman trained it his entire life.

From craftsmanship alone, Star Sea was undoubtedly the top of the 21 Great Katanas.

If not for its material being slightly inferior, it would be part of the supreme 12 Great Katanas instead.

But overall, Star Sea's value was not less than the supreme katanas.

Lucifer, having found two amazing treasures, started to wonder.

Why would a family with no strong fighters hide these two things?

No records mentioned them either.

Puzzled, Lucifer learned this from his father, Chris D. Mage, the current head of the Chris family.

Of course, he asked in a roundabout way.

Mage's answer was a scolding and punishment forbidding Lucifer from going to the basement again.

And Mage had never treated Lucifer like that before!

Well, fine, Lucifer didn't mind skipping the basement—though he wanted to go.

His stepdad Mage couldn't stop him.

Because Lucifer's stepmom died early during childbirth, Mage was very kind to him.

But there were some things Mage felt Lucifer wasn't ready to know yet.

Lucifer, still full of questions, blinked—he was now five years old.

Today was Lucifer's fifth birthday.

His purpose at the seaside was not just to reflect on five carefree years.

He had started self-driven strength training.

By the time he came to the beach today, Lucifer had already completed his training.

"Hey, another year—it's the fifth."

Lucifer looked at the sea with emotion.

The sea was calm now, like a gentle maiden.

But Lucifer dared not underestimate the sea in the world of pirates.

The sea's terror could only be understood through firsthand experience.

One must know, the pirate world's sea area covered most of the world; everything depended on the sea.

As he looked at the vast sea, Lucifer recalled his five years of experiences.

At one year old, not much to say—he was still playing with mud.

At two years old, Lucifer showed intelligence beyond ordinary kids; he learned everything very quickly.

At three, he started formal, self-designed training.

At four, he discovered the Devil Fruit and the famous sword—Star Sea.
