Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Counterattack

When the number was heard, the guy with the afro almost instinctively exclaimed aloud.

Thinking about fighting for their lives with a group of vicious criminals in this hellish scenario for 40 minutes, everyone's face showed various degrees of despair.

To be honest, 40 minutes is already an ideal situation.

Last round, Gu Ji held on for a full half hour, but there was still no sign of any armored vehicles or helicopters, not even a police car. Clearly, Ethiopia's emergency security measures are practically decorative—or rather, nonexistent.

But as the tactical commander, he couldn't expose any negative factors that could affect morale.

After all, in actual police combat, the morale and mental state of the team will greatly influence the final battle outcome.

"Holding on for 40 minutes isn't hard. We divide the security area into three parts: combat zone, operational safety zone, and rear zone, representing the security corridor, security room, and boarding gate respectively. The combat zone is our primary point of engagement with the criminals. We can't let them breach the security corridor's choke point; otherwise, it will become close quarters combat. If it falls, immediately cover and retreat to the boarding gate."

"Felsen, Jillian, Jamie, and..."

"Sam."

Seeing Gu Ji looking over, the bespectacled fat guy hurriedly stated his name.

"Sam... good, the five of us will hold the operational safety zone, position at the three-pronged 'T' junction firing positions, close to the walls at the four corners of the trapezoidal security room. Front kneeling, rear standing, crisscross left and right. I'll guard the central makeshift cover, forming a death funnel with our firepower; additionally, Felsen, you arrange two to three people to guard the rear boarding gate to prevent the burglars from rappelling in from outside."

Gu Ji deployed the tactics swiftly but with composure and steadiness, giving off a sense of reassuring confidence.

The initially panic-stricken members suddenly felt assured, and without hesitation, began to act according to his command.

Passing by Gu Ji, Jillian spoke in a low voice, her tone slightly wary, "Who exactly are you, and why do you know my name?"

Unknowingly, she had already tied her blond hair into a ponytail just like Gu Ji's character, looking indeed somewhat like a fierce policewoman.

"I'll tell you once we get through this!"

Gu Ji casually made up a reason.

Anyway, the game should end after this.

Jillian's eyes flicked up and down Gu Ji as if she had no way to deal with him before she turned and ran towards the right corner of the security room, just about to find a cover position.

"Rumble..."

A loud roaring jet engine sound rushed from behind, and through the distant aluminum alloy floor-to-ceiling windows of the boarding gate, a white medium-sized commercial airliner flew almost grazing the top of the terminal building, its massive body rolling over, presenting a truly apocalyptic presence.

On the airport runway, other waiting-for-flight planes also began to start their engines. The aircraft that were originally docked with jet bridges were closing their doors, presumably because the control tower discovered the airport was under attack and was urgently arranging for the evacuation of commercial planes.

"Help! Don't leave us behind!"

"Get back!"

"Ah! Don't push, people will fall off!"

...

Without the commercial planes for connection, the skyway essentially became a single-plank cliff. The front was forced to retreat desperately, but the confused crowd in the rear kept pressing forward, and with even more people continuously escaping in from the security checkpoint, even the staff couldn't control the chaos, and the scene turned into an immediate mess.

"Damn it! It's the doing of the Luoao Rebel Army!"

Felsen was crouched at the right front corner of the security area, gritting his teeth with disdain.

"It seems the rumors are true. Last week's Amu Tribe massacre event was indeed the work of the Luoao Rebel Army. Now they're preparing to bloodwash Laird Airport, declaring official war against the government troops!"

A senior police officer at the rear zone spoke with some fear.

"Why have the Luoao Rebel Army suddenly become so powerful?" the afro guy, who was also guarding the rear zone, shouted back.

The senior police officer shook his head: "I heard they somehow got a large amount of money, purchased a lot of weapons from PM Arms Company, and also connected with the Tirathaf armed forces."

Tirathaf is Ethiopia's largest non-governmental armed force, which previously almost overthrew the current regime, all over international news, and Gu Ji had looked into it as well.

No wonder these criminals have such high tactical training, having a few sharp soldiers produced by a regular army is not surprising.

Moreover, he also noticed that when the senior officer mentioned "money," Jillian, who was guarding the right rear side, seemed particularly attentive.

But the priority was to deal with the criminals first, so Gu Ji didn't focus much on it.

Da-da-da...

From the start of the attack to now, two minutes had passed, the gunfire mixed with screams, gradually getting closer, it seems the criminals should have begun to invade the second floor.

"Everyone be alert, the criminals are about to invade the security corridor, prepare to engage!"

With Gu Ji's command, those at various fire points immediately raised their Type 56 rifles, switched off safeties, ready to erupt at any moment.

"Clang... clang clang..."

Just at this moment, a round black object was suddenly thrown in from the security corridor entrance.

"It's a hand grenade!!"

Felsen, stationed at the front of the security checkpoint, urgently shouted, immediately crouching down and taking cover behind the metal security scanner.

The next second.

"Boom——!"

A deafening explosion sent metal fragments flying everywhere, "bang bang bang" hitting the metal tables and chairs, and everyone's ears buzzed for a moment.

"Open fire!!"

With a loud shout, Gu Ji's gunshot was faster than the voice, instantly thrusting the muzzle out of the central cover, pulling the trigger wildly at the figures rushing through the security passage, da-da-da-da!

With the first shot, the others immediately reacted, firing intensely in a diagonal crossfire.

In an instant, gunfire erupted within the security room, overshadowing the noise of the crowd at the boarding gate. Four or five 56 assault rifles fired simultaneously, the trajectories converging at the narrow opening from top to bottom, from left to right, forming an incredibly dense pyramidal firepower net. The muzzle flashes, like a rapidly snapping camera, made the interior flash intensely.

"Cease fire!"

Gu Ji shouted again, and the gunfire gradually subsided.

"Ugh..."

Through the smoke and dust-filled security passage, cries of agony emerged. On the walls of the passage, on the tiles, besides bullet holes, there was splattered blood, shredded flesh, severed fingers, and leather fragments, along with a black pump-action shotgun damaged by bullets.

This instantly reminded Gu Ji of the gap-toothed black man who fired the first shot during the assailants' airport assault.

He wasn't surprised; in a four-man CQB combat, those leading the charge often acted as the vanguard, either using a shotgun to breach doors or using shields for cover.

Now it was clear.

The result of the first round of exchange:

The assailants were severely wounded!!

This undoubtedly injected the present defenders with a powerful dose of confidence, especially the afro-haired police officers at the rear, who even cheered in excitement. When they looked at Gu Ji, their eyes were filled with religious fervor!

This firepower arrangement was awesome!

By dividing into three zones - front, center, and rear - the safe combat distance was extended. With ample cover in the security room, even if a grenade was thrown in, those at the rear, less affected, could immediately provide fire support.

Compared to the excitement of Felsen and others.

Gu Ji wasn't overly optimistic. He originally thought the first round would take down at least two assailants, but only one was severely injured, considering the enemy did not carry shields.

Possibly for portability reasons, during normal CQB room clearance, strong assaults must use concussion bombs and shields to pave the way.

A CQB without shields is a gamble with life.

If that gap-toothed black man hadn't remembered the assault key points of "shooting close to walls, cutting corners entry," and been quickly dragged back by comrades, he would likely have been shot down on the spot, turned into a sieve.

"Five enemies remain, still highly threatening..."

Gu Ji silently calculated in his heart.

As a special police student, he knew well the three principles of CQB: speed, surprise, impact, also known as aggressive combat.

Therefore, to counter these assailants, the series of counterattack tactics he developed also followed these three points: quickly move to the security zone, concentrate the airport's superior firepower, counterstrike the enemy unexpectedly!

But there was only one chance.

Now the first round of counterattacks was over; these assailants were prepared, and they wouldn't be so reckless next time.

Unfortunately, Ethiopia's airport federal police post's firepower was too small, with only regular 56 rifles, PM pistols, and hand grenades, having no time to place traps. Otherwise, placing two Claymore mines in the security passage, delayed detonation, might have taken out an entire team!

But this round of exchange had a surprise for Gu Ji.

It was Jillian and Jamie's marksmanship.

The one who shot the assailant earlier was Jillian from the right side position. These two, after all, were police officers eligible to execute covert operations overseas, their marksmanship undoubtedly much stronger than Gu Ji, a police academy student.

One must know.

An average police academy student, like those majoring in criminal investigation, fires only about 50 rounds during the four years. In contrast, a special police student like Gu Ji shoots roughly 30 times more than the general major, which is about 1500 rounds.

This number, as per the firearms instructor, indicates a level of proficient use.

To achieve absolute precision, however, requires two to three times more practice.

And that's with just one gun!

Because each firearm has different stats: recoil, shooting accuracy, trajectory, etc., it's extremely difficult for an average person to become the kind of multi-gun sharpshooter seen in movies!
