Chapter 31 - Chapter 28: Quarantine Zone A, an Unexpected Big Surprise!

The checkpoint is divided into six areas: A, B, C, D, E, and F.

The areas E and F are twice as large as the other four areas, which determines the internal structure of the checkpoint: A, B, C, and D are arranged in a row at the front, with E behind AB and F behind CD, forming a "four in the front, two in the back" structure.

The station master's office is located on the sixth floor of the office building in area E, the highest point of the entire checkpoint, offering a panoramic view through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Descending the stairs and passing through three retractable isolation gates, one enters the core area of the checkpoint.

Isolation inspection area.

The four areas are strictly separated by iron nets to ensure independent inspections while facilitating isolation control in emergencies.

Behind the four areas, a secondary isolation passage about twenty meters wide runs east to west.

This passage serves a dual function: used for disinfection of personnel and materials passing through, and in case of an infected body outbreak, it can instantly transform into a firepower interception zone, establishing the first line of defense for the entire station.

What surprised Cheng Ye was the meticulous secondary partitioning within each isolation area.

The front half is the quarantine zone for initial screening of incoming personnel.

The rear half is the observation zone for in-depth testing and short-term isolation of suspected infected individuals.

Through the iron net, although the observation zone is outdoors, it is equipped with four large warehouses and some simple shelter facilities.

"Area A is mainly responsible for the quarantine of convoys, entering through this door."

Leading Cheng Ye to the isolation gate leading to area A, Raul pressed the intercom at the door and said a few words. Within half a minute, two staff members came trotting over.

"This is Inspector Cheng Ye, on duty today for area A quarantine. Show him the area layout."

"Uh..." Seeing Cheng Ye's Eastern face, the two staff members were visibly stunned.

Until they repeatedly confirmed that Cheng Ye was purely Eastern, not mixed race, they exchanged glances and read the same doubt in each other's eyes:

Could Raul be speaking in reverse, hinting for us to give this Eastern inspector some trouble?

But they were only observers, helpers, not daring enough to mess with an on-duty inspector.

"Fools, when do faction struggles involve you?" Raul rubbed his forehead in irritation.

Ever since the balance between the Eastern and Western factions was broken a few months ago, it gradually impacted everyone at the station.

Now even the observers want to meddle; isn't that courting death?

"Eastern or Western, it only takes a word from an inspector to end you."

"Understand?"

"Yes, yes, we understand."

The two nodded incessantly, though scolded by Raul, they felt relieved.

After all, being scolded was better than losing their job by offending an inspector.

At the same time, they were secretly puzzled, Raul, the deputy station master's son, always looking down on others.

What was this Eastern person's background to warrant Raul personally "escorting" him to his post, and specifically instructing them to cooperate?

"Inspector Cheng, I won't disturb you further."

"Thank you."

Cheng Ye nodded, sidestepping into the open isolation gate.

As the metal door closed behind him, the isolation purifier above started blowing air, gently lifting Raul's blond hair at the front.

Watching that disappearing figure, a hint of confusion flashed in his eyes, but it was soon replaced by some deep, profound meaning.

...

"Inspector Cheng, in the rapid inspection area only inspectors need to rotate duty daily. Staff, unless there is a sacrifice or other unexpected situation, generally rotate every three months."

"We have two months left in this rotation, during which we'll serve as your assistant observers during inspections."

"Observers have no names; you only need to refer to us by our codenames."

"I'm Raven, responsible for helping you with miscellaneous tasks like retrieving materials, testing wounds, tracing origins, organizing information, and calling the cleanup team. Feel free to instruct."

"He's Owl, responsible for security duty, a combat assistant of sorts. If you feel there's a risk during the inspection of infected bodies, let him handle it."

"If we were to be sacrificed, don't worry, new replacements will inherit our codenames, continuing to serve as your assistant."

Raven and Owl walked ahead, introducing in a serious manner.

The structure of the rapid inspection checkpoint is very simple.

The on-duty inspector is at the top, followed by the two observers, and then the staff and guards.

Cheng Ye nodded occasionally, thinking that letting Raul guide him was indeed a wise move, sparing him the trouble of finding his way in the rapid inspection area.

Amidst the pungent smell of chemical disinfectant, the three of them passed through a more than ten-meter-long isolation and disinfection passage, finally entering the rear half of the isolation area in quarantine zone A.

The first impression was that it felt somewhat like entering the interior of a stadium.

The isolation zone is about 200 meters long and 100 meters wide. The ground material is not the epoxy flooring used in Zone E, but instead, it's the alloy flooring found only in the Inner City.

Intersecting trench-like drainage ditches are embedded in it, currently flowing with rainwater falling from high above.

Moving towards the open space on the side, there are the four warehouses seen earlier through the iron mesh.

Upon getting closer, Cheng Ye noticed that the four warehouses vary in size and building materials, with a distance of about twenty meters between each.

The materials of the first two warehouses were familiar to Cheng Ye, constructed from modular metal sandwich panels common in the Buffer Zone, with a silver-gray surface coated with anti-corrosion coating, and the seams of the panels tightly sealed, ensuring an effective service life of up to 50 years.

However, the latter two warehouses seemed a bit odd...

Seeing Cheng Ye's confusion, Raven immediately explained, "Because Quarantine Zone A is responsible for vehicle inspections, its layout is slightly different from the other three zones. The biggest difference is that we have a warehouse specifically for storing vehicles; yes, it's the one you're facing right now, Warehouse No. 4."

"Besides this warehouse, the remaining three are as follows:

Warehouse No.1 is the Isolation Warehouse, used to isolate individuals with questionable quarantine results. The duty inspectors determine the isolation period, but it must be at least 72 hours, ensuring they are not parasitized by any infection sources before they can leave.

Residential Block No.2 is for our staff and guards to reside, as unlike you, we cannot leave after our duty ends. We must stay here for the entire three-month duty cycle.

Supplies Room No.3 stores living supplies, anti-epidemic supplies, and some contraband collected from outsiders... hmm, if you're interested in any of these items, you can take them directly; the remaining items will be cleared every seven days on a routine basis."

Truly deserving of its reputation as a fast inspection station, the facade of Happiness City; each area is so comprehensively organized.

Even Quarantine Zone A has extravagantly built a garage...

Cheng Ye paused, curiously peering inside the nearest Vehicle Warehouse No. 4.

Because the Isolation Warehouse occupied a large portion of the observation area's open space, the garage was squeezed into the corner, and not very large.

The interior space was particularly tight, with six Jinbei vans parked end-to-end, nearly filling all available space.

Wait!

Cheng Ye's scanning gaze suddenly froze, his pupils contracting sharply, staring incredulously at the garage wall.

Could it be that after a great battle, reinforcements truly follow?

On the wall of the main warehouse, there were three on the left and three on the right, neatly lined up, six brand new charging stations!!!

The three silver-gray charging stations on the left had slender charging cables only two fingers wide, estimated at around 7KW for slow charging based on experience.

But the three gray-blue charging stations on the right had charging cables as thick as a forearm, with a power of at least 60KW at the very least.

60KW?

Cheng Ye felt his thoughts explode with a bang, briefly losing the ability to think.

Truly, despite searching high and low, it came without any effort.

What does this signify?

At home, charging overnight, even at a constant 2.5KW, could only add approximately 20 kilowatt-hours of electricity.

But with these charging stations, it could be 60 kilowatt-hours per hour.

With eight hours of duty every day, if he could charge constantly, that would be...

480 kilowatt-hours?

What does that mean?

It meant his search frequency would soar from once every three days to four times a day.

"S-Sir?"

The two people ahead continued to lead, planning to familiarize Cheng Ye with the inspection procedures.

Unexpectedly, when they turned their heads, they found Cheng Ye standing dumbfounded in front of the garage, looking extremely fervent.

How to describe it?

It's like seeing the goddess of his dreams standing in the garage, beckoning him.

"Start by introducing me to the observation area." Cheng Ye took a few deep breaths, suppressing all emotions, striving to appear normal.

It's hard to blame him for being this excited.

Even though the Skill Bar could only equip three skills simultaneously, the surplus search results could be converted into the information value required for the Collector rank upgrade.

Four search opportunities a day, even if successful only once, would significantly boost the information value acquisition speed.

If he could break away from Intern Level 1 and advance to Level 2 in a short time, he'd unlock the higher-level Level 3 skill search permissions.

What changes would equipping Level 3 skills bring?

Cheng Ye couldn't imagine, but he knew this was absolutely the fastest shortcut to rooting himself in the Wasteland!
