Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Rabbits Are So Adorable

For Xu Yi, it's no longer pitch black; instead, he can see very dim scenes, trees, and some conditions on the ground, roughly clarifying things within ten meters.

If there are any animals within this ten meters, Xu Yi would easily spot them.

He didn't expect that the basic visual enhancement would be this powerful.

Seeing clearly within ten meters in the night is already quite extraordinary.

"What's Xu Yi doing? Is it possible that a wolf pack has appeared?" More and more viewers are paying attention to them, especially during nighttime, because the wilderness at night is extremely frightening.

"Looks like he's checking if there are any animals outside. You see, he didn't bring anything, so it shouldn't be a wolf pack."

Xu Yi did a quick survey, gaining a comprehensive understanding of his eyesight.

This vision is practically made for hunting.

The pack Xu Yi received last night can be called a hunter's pack.

He has dozens of methods in his mind for making bows and arrows, as well as all the methods for making traps.

With these two, Xu Yi feels he can roam freely in the jungle.

Xu Yi returned to the entrance and rested while leaning on the door pillar.

He just checked around and found no traces of animals nearby.

So, tonight should be a relatively peaceful night.

After resting for a bit, Xu Yi closed his eyes and began to recharge.

Until dawn, no wolf pack appeared.

As soon as it got bright, Xu Yi took the rabbit to the water's edge to start processing it.

Having almost starved through the night, Xu Yi wanted to eat rabbit meat as soon as possible so that he could have more energy for work today.

Without any animal attacks, Xu Yi dared to handle the rabbit while Lu Ke was still asleep.

Xu Yi slaughtered the rabbit about 50 meters downstream so that even if other animals were attracted by the scent of blood, they wouldn't immediately discover their camp.

As Xu Yi left, he left a message on the ground with charcoal.

So, when Lu Ke woke up, she found it.

Xu Yi had covered her sleeping bag with his clothes, being quite thoughtful.

Seeing this, Lu Ke felt a warm sensation in her heart.

She put on her clothes, went outside, and brought back a pot of water to boil.

By the time Xu Yi returned, the water in the pot was already boiling.

"Morning." Xu Yi greeted Lu Ke as he carried the rabbit back to the house and saw her boiling water.

"Thank you for your hard work!" Lu Ke replied and then asked, "Are we going to roast the rabbit meat, or make rabbit meat soup?"

"Let's roast it, for now, we don't have a chopping board, so it's hard to chop it." Xu Yi made the decision.

"Leave it to me, then." Lu Ke felt she should take on the responsibility of cooking.

Xu Yi nodded, thinking since Lu Ke offered, it would be inappropriate for him to refuse. Besides, he's not very good at it.

With Lu Ke's skillful hands, she might even have a talent for it.

"You grill it here; I'll go get some straw, aiming to finish dealing with the house in the morning." Xu Yi said as he headed out with an Engineer Shovel to gather straw.

Lu Ke carefully began roasting the rabbit meat, using charcoal to prevent it from burning.

In the meantime, Xu Yi made several trips back and forth, bringing back a lot of straw quickly piling it up into a heap.

"Xu Yi, it should be ready to eat," Lu Ke told Xu Yi, then raised the rabbit she had roasted, filling the air with a fragrant meat aroma.

She grabbed some straw, brushed some saltwater on the inside and outside of the rabbit.

"Okay, I'll go wash the Engineer Shovel and the stone slab." Xu Yi brought back a stone slab on one trip, large enough to cut food on.

With that, Xu Yi took the slab to the water source to clean it.

Upon returning washed, the temperature of the rabbit meat had dropped a bit.

He placed the golden roasted rabbit on the stone slab and used the jagged edge of the Engineer Shovel for cutting.

"It might just make the kid next door cry with envy," Xu Yi joked and then took a piece and stuffed it into his mouth.

"Hmm," Xu Yi chewed a few times, and the flavor spread in his mouth.

"The texture is so tender, the crisp fragrant rabbit skin is simply perfect, it's just so delicious." Xu Yi couldn't help but give Lu Ke a thumbs up.

We don't know if a neighboring kid cried out of envy, but a group of homebodies in the live stream did.

"Bunnies are so cute, why would you eat one?"

"Luckily, I have a tub of instant noodles, or I really would have cried."

"I'm so hungry, I need to go downstairs to have breakfast and eat something to fill my stomach."

"Thank goodness it's not night; otherwise, I'd devour my keyboard."

"I want to eat a rabbit too, but I'll settle for a rabbit-shaped bun."

These comments indicated that Lu Ke's roasted rabbit indeed looked appealing.

She herself tasted a piece and then laughed happily, "It's actually quite nice. Who knew I had a knack for it? In the future, leave the cooking to me, Xu Yi."

"No problem, it's not like it's my forte anyway." Xu Yi grinned, picking up his half of the rabbit meat and digging into it, getting juices all over his mouth.

"By the way, do you know how to craft Pottery?" Xu Yi thought of Lu Ke's craftsmanship, guessing she might know pottery and ceramics.

"I do, I learned how. There's clay at the water source that we can use. But standard fire isn't hot enough; it tends to crack easily." Lu Ke immediately guessed Xu Yi's idea. She had thought about this during her night watch but hadn't figured out how to solve the insufficient heating problem, so she hadn't mentioned it to Xu Yi.

However, Xu Yi brought it up himself.

"Leave that problem to me. You just focus on crafting the tools we need." Xu Yi said with full confidence, patting his chest.

He had seen programs before where people made traditional clay kilns for firing Pottery.

"Great, then we'll have bowls to use soon." Lu Ke said happily, giving Xu Yi a gentle smile, her eyes curving into crescents.

Xu Yi felt his heartbeat skip for a moment, a budding feeling of affection stirring within him.

"It's so tasty; it would be amazing to have roast rabbit every day." Lu Ke said while munching, occasionally glancing at her basket inside the house.

"If there are enough rabbits in the area, we just might. After all, there are no human activities here, so the ecosystem is thriving." Xu Yi laughed, saying if they truly had rabbit meat every day, she might complain about having nothing but meat someday.

After eating their fill, the two started dividing the tasks.

Xu Yi continued to gather straw, while Lu Ke was in charge of tying it together.

After two hours of cutting, Xu Yi thought they had plenty, so he started sawing trees.
