Professor Sutton was discharged this Friday. Serena Sutton's two older brothers had to work, so they didn't come; everyone else did.
Nina Hayes was packing things in the ward, tidying up as she said, "I'll leave your private stash of money alone, but from now on it's the same as before—if you want to spend money and it's over a thousand, you have to put in a request."
Professor Sutton felt a bit aggrieved, but there was nothing he could do. He didn't dare talk back, much less go against Ms. Hayes, so he could only swallow it.
When Serena and her grandmother, Deborah Spencer, arrived, they happened to run into Dr. Coleman as well.
Dr. Coleman solemnly reminded him, "Professor Sutton, once you're home, you absolutely must not smoke again. I'm not trying to scare you—if you keep smoking, problems will crop up again later, and they'll only be more serious than before."
